The prepared MIL@53-Al MOFs and Li/MIL/53-Al were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, BET, and TGA. The developed Lithium doped MIL@53-Al and MIL@53-Al were measured for the hydrogen sorption capacities at 298 and 253 K under a pressure of 75 bar. The study reports revealed that sorption capacities of MIL@53-Al enhanced significantly due to the doping of lithium ions; however, doping of these ions should be controlled for obtaining good uptake capacities as the higher concentrations of lithium might damage the frameworks of the synthesized materials. The lithium doping enhances the hydrogen uptake from 1.37 to 1.75 wt % at 253 K and 75 bar pressure.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41558679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This equipment works under very severe operating conditions. In order to improve the hydrodynamic performance of these rotating machines, the industrialists specialized in the manufacture of hydrodynamic bearings have designed a bearing model with its textured interior surface. The numerical analysis is carried out to study the for both plain bearings types with a textured a non-textured surface thus to see the improvement of the plain bearing hydrodynamic performances, as well as the fluid flow behavior in motion. The analysis is performed by solving the continuity equation of Navier-Stokes, by the finite volume method, using CFD code. The numerical results show that the most important hydrodynamic characteristics such as pressure, minimal film thickness, friction torque, leakage flow, are significant for the textured plain bearing under rotational velocity of 6000rpm and radial load 10000N compared to obtained for a non-textured plain bearing.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70461806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Correlations between molecular weight and sludge settling rate were identified for three types of polymers with a general trend of higher molecular weight giving a faster settling rate. Among the non-ionic polymers, the medium molecular weight polymer produced the best results (1831.88 ppm). Among the cationic flocculants, the lowest molecular weight polymer resulted in more REEs distribution (2478.81 ppm). It was concluded that the super high molecular weight of anionic flocculants works best for treating phosphoric acid sludge which resulted in REE concentration of 2568.69 ppm. Five co-polymers with different anionic ratio were tested as well. A higher anionic ratio resulted in faster settlement. It was found that the higher was the anionic ratio of the flocculant, the higher was REE concentration in the final solids and the highest anionic ratio polymer resulted in 2999.64 ppm of REE. This trend was attributed to zeta potential change due to addition of the polymer.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47620662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The examinations on magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) processes are being done for the modern industry. This newly developed process is serving the industry to achieve the desired level of precision and surface finish. This research represents the MAF of aluminum pipes using adhesive magnetic abrasive particles. The different process parameters were optimized using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) method to gain an in-depth analysis of surface roughness in terms of roughness improvement rate (RIR), and material removal rate (MRR). The achieved maximum RIR and MRR was 81.49% and 2.74mg/min, respectively. The finished workpieces were microscopically investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to further study the mechanism of MAF process.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019070103","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44112105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machined surfaces have been characterized using fractal dimensions. Apart from the aforesaid conventional turning parameters, cutting condition has been also considered as a design variable. Three cutting conditions have been considered, e.g. dry, water lubricated, and commercially available water-soluble emulsion lubricated condition. The depth of cut and feed rate has been also been varied at three levels. Experiments were performed following Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array. The optimal setting of process parameters has been achieved through the use of Taguchi's quality loss function represented by a signal-to-noise ratio. The optimal condition predicted from Taguchi's analysis is a 0.4 mm depth of cut, a 0.07 mm/rev feed rate and a water-based emulsion cutting environment. The results obtained for fractal dimensions has been also compared with the more conventional roughness parameter centre line average roughness which is dependent on instrument resolution.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019070102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44233066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, microstructure, microhardness, tensile properties, surface roughness and wear behavior of Al and both Al-0.15Ti and Al-0.05Ti-0.01B microalloys were investigated. The addition of Ti and B to pure Al reduced the grain size by 83%. The grain refinement effect was due to the presence of Al3Ti and TiB2 particles, which activated the columnar-to-equiaxed transition and improved both microhardness and tensile properties. The presence of both Al3Ti and TiB2 particles was confirmed using thermodynamic calculations. Average microhardness values increased form 39 HV for pure Al to 95 and 76 HV for Al-Ti and Al-Ti-B microalloys, respectively, by solid solution hardening. The enhanced wear behaviour of Al was due to the coarse-grained structure where the plastic deformation mechanism took place. Whereas, grain pull-out dominated the wear behavior of fine-grained specimens. It was concluded that the material with a smooth surface has high friction coefficient and low wear rate.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019010101","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48259825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coatings deposited with varying topcoat thickness up to 500µm were deposited on the piston top surface of an Indian hatchback diesel car to act as a thermal barrier and enhance the thermal efficiency of the engine. Although all the specimens with distinct coating overlays survived 350 thermal cycles, the one with 200µm thickness exhibited the best thermal shock behavior as they exuded the most cycles to surface cracks initiation. Moreover, SEM analysis also suggested 200 µm thick coating to be optimal for thermal shock behavior in diesel engine components. The coating phase analysis by XRD and the lattice strain analysis performed by a Williamson-Hall (W-H) analysis did not reveal any structural changes after the thermal shock experiment.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019010103","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48656752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A coating of lossy material on appropriate parts of the tubes (known as attenuators) is done to suppress these reflections. Carbon is a very commonly used material for this type of coating, and may be deposited by a number of techniques. In the present work, coatings of carbon were done on the dielectric substrate and evaluated for the attenuation performance at microwave frequencies. Three dielectric rods (APBN material) were coated with carbon by pyrolytic deposition method for different thickness. An experimental setup involving a rectangular wave-guide with a hole has been used for measuring the attenuation of the coated rods in the Ka-band frequency range. The same structure has been simulated using the Ansoft High Frequency Simulator (HFSS) and both the experimental and simulated results have been compared.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019010104","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44752991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three material systems were selected for the study: glass-basalt fiber reinforced 80 wt. % PA66 – 20 wt. % PTFE blend (GB), GB/Micro fillers (MoS2, SiC, Al2O3) (GBM) and GBM/nano fillers (TiO2) (GBN). It has been revealed from the experimentation that the effect of micro fillers deteriorated the mechanical behavior of micro composites (GBM). But the combined effect of micro and nano fillers slightly impaired the mechanical behavior of nano composites. The synergistic effect of micro and nano fillers constrained the loss of strength of nano composites. But the impact strength of nano composites has been improved due to hybrid fillers effect. The hybrid effect of fillers significantly improved the thermal stability of nano composites. Further, it is observed from the morphology that the fractured surfaces were characterized by fiber pull out and fiber overlapping, severe deformation and agglomeration of nano particles.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2019010102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70461703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ageing studies were performed at 160 °C, 200 °C and 240 °C temperatures and a maximum peak hardness of 142 VHN was observed during ageing at 200 °C for the composite with 10 wt% nano fly ash reinforcement. This is due to rapid nucleation and growth of βI particles at this temperature. Experiments were designed for different compositions and different ageing temperatures on the basis of the Design of Experiments technique. The factorial design is considered to improve the reliability of results and to reduce the size of experimentation without loss of accuracy. A model to predict the ageing behaviour of the composites was developed with the terms of 5, 10 and 15% weight fraction of fly ash at 160 °C, 200 °C and 240 °C ageing temperatures. The developed regression model was validated by statistical software MINITAB-R17.1.0. It was found that the developed regression model could be effectively used to predict the ageing behavior at 95% confidence level.","PeriodicalId":37123,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Surface Engineering and Interdisciplinary Materials Science","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.4018/IJSEIMS.2018070103","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46490191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
