The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the adjunctive use of Indocyanine green (ICG) and 810nm Diode laser assisted photodynamic therapy (IG-PDT) with 810nm Diode laser assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP) in the management of persistent pockets in SPT.\u0000MATERIALS AND METHODS: This single blinded randomized controlled split mouth clinical trial included 20 participants with at least two adjacent teeth with PPD ≥5mm and Clinical attachment level (CAL) ≥3mm in the contralateral quadrants. IG-PDT group received application of 5mg/ml solution of ICG for one minute followed by 810±10nm diode laser with 1W power density. LANAP group received 810±10nm diode laser application at 3W power density with 100ms and 650ms pulse duration at two consecutive passes. Clinical parameters i.e., Plaque index (PI), Gingival index (GI), PPD, CAL gain were recorded at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Landry’s Healing index was assessed on the 7th day and 1 month postoperatively. Patient comfort was assessed using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) immediate post-operatively.\u0000RESULTS: Student t test and repeated measures of ANOVA were used for statistical analysis. Both site level and patient level assessments of clinical parameters showed improvement in clinical parameters in both groups. However, IG-PDT group showed significantly greater improvements in PPD (<0.001) and CAL (<0.001) at 3 and 6 months evaluation. IG-PDT showed better healing (P-0.03) at 7th post-operative day. However, LANAP showed less discomfort (2.40±0.50) compared to IG-PDT group (3.20±0.61).\u0000CONCLUSION: IG-PDT is shown to provide better clinical outcomes compared to LANAP in management of patients under SPT.

Most patients still view the “needle” as a source of anxiety and disruptive behavior rather than relief. The patient’s cooperation and comfort level will increase with the administration of painless local anesthetic injection using appropriate technique. The purpose of this study was to assess the patient cooperation and behavior after receiving local anesthesia injection and to compare patients’ acceptance and preference of needleless NumBee anesthetic delivery device to conventional dental syringe.\u0000MATERIALS AND METHODS: 30 non-fearful 6-8-year-olds who had never been to the dentist were selected for the study using a split-mouth design. They underwent a simple class I restoration on both mandibular permanent first molar teeth in two separated dental visits. The Frankl behavior rating scale was used to assess patient behavior following injection. Patients expressed their preference and acceptance of the used syringes by answering a questionnaire.\u0000RESULTS: After injection by either method, 25 patients had Frankl behavior rating score of 4. Patients that had a negative response with the traditional method, showed a score of 2, following NumBee injection (p=0.035).\u0000CONCLUSION: Patients accepted both methods, and NumBee may induce less fear, with minimum stinging and unpleasant taste.\u0000\u0000

Furthermore, a comparison was made between the effects of HA/H2O2 and those of CHX (Chlorhexidine) and placebo.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This clinical trial was randomized, double-blinded, and parallel. Fifty-four students with biofilm-induced gingivitis (18 to 23 years old) were randomly assigned to three mouthwash groups: HA/H2O2, CHX, and placebo. Unidentified bottles were delivered to participants. For 14 days, 10 millilitres of HA/H2O2 mouthwash formulation, CHX (0.12%), and placebo were used twice a day. All subjects were assessed twice, once at baseline and once after 14 days. Before and after each participant's mouthwash usage, bleeding on probing was measured as a clinical parameter for inflammation, Salivary IL-1β and IL-6 were also assessed by ELISA. Changes in salivary interleukins and bleeding between baseline and after treatment were determined and compared by the t test with an alpha of 0.05.RESULTS: There was a statistically significant decrease in salivary interleukin-1β and IL-6 in all three groups. However, intergroup comparisons at second visits showed no significant difference between HA/H2O2 and CHX groups (P>0.05) for the interleukins tested. Furthermore, all treatments considerably reduced bleeding on probing, although mouthwash with hyaluronic acid (HA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) had a greater impact than the other two treatments.CONCLUSION: Mouthwash containing HA/H2O2 demonstrated an anti-inflammatory effect, suggesting they are immunomodulatory agents. These findings may be beneficial and encouraging for the use of HA/H2O2 in the treatment of gingivitis; thus, HA/H2O2 rinse has the potential to serve as an appropriate replacement for chlorhexidine (CHX).

Participants in the study who had primary caries lesions on their teeth were divided into two groups. The experimental group received chemical-mechanical treatment with Carisolv® gel (N=54) whereas the control group received traditional treatment model- by drilling and excavation (N=47). Children who were participating in the study had at least two primary caries lesions in the same group of teeth and were being treated by a pediatric dentist at a specialty dental clinic. Children with two or more identical caries lesions in the same set of teeth took part in this study. Using Carisolv® gel on one of the selected teeth (the experimental tooth), while drilling and excavating the other tooth as usual, both the experimental and control teeth were placed on the left side of the jaw. It was successful in getting the parents of the children to agree to have them participate in the study. Using Carisolv® gel, we conducted a clinical comparison of the traditional and chemical-mechanical approaches in this study.
