In this paper, we empirically identified the factors that improve SMSEs' partnership performance and motivate them to retain their partnership based on interviews with and a survey of C level executives of SMSEs. We found that SMSEs' partnership performance and intention to retain the partnership are influenced by normative, technological, and managerial factors. Based on these results, we provided a set of managerial guidelines that can be useful for executives and entrepreneurs in SMSEs.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134559579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are traditionally thought to exist in economies with high per capita income, sophisticated markets and high international visibility. We, however, propose that there is an increasing evidence of lead market tendencies in some emerging economies, e.g. India. We undertake a literature review to crystallize the need for an update/extension of the existing model to better reflect the changed ground realities and propose that factors such as voluminous markets, strong technological capabilities, and favorable government policies may be able to offset some of the disadvantages rooted in traditional deficiencies of developing economies. Engaging a developing country lead market may be useful for firms in securing better access to markets at the bottom of the economic pyramid, worldwide.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128323876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This increase in the importance of supply chain management lead the companies as being buyers, care more about their relations with their suppliers. Besides traditional methods, collaboration focused, cooperative approaches are now capturing attention. One such example is the teamwork between Premier Foods and British Sugar, which worked out so well that the two companies are honored by the Best Supplier Relationship Management Award, in the 2010 Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Awards. This paper will discuss the traditional and modern approaches in Supplier Relationship Management, and investigate this further with a case study.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124895159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the modern industry, green competitiveness is an imperative element to ensure the harmony of global society, economy and environment. This work focuses on developing a metrics framework to measure the factors that affect sustainable development and green environment in achieving green competitiveness. Initial findings suggest that the indicator of industrial sustainable development is the top impact under the domain of sustainable development, and the indicator of environmental regulation has the highest influence under the domain of green environment. For the sub-indicators, results show that economic and trade policy, green environmental quality management, management of toxins, and hazardous substance management are the factors most important to economic sustainable development, industrial sustainable development, environmental management, and environmental regulations, respectively. The proposed metrics framework could be a complementary framework for the traditional metrics mainly considering for the economic competitiveness.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122354275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The price is decided based on the firm's knowledge of its target market, i.e., the distributions of customer's willingness to pay, impatience factor, etc. We propose a dynamic pricing strategy to find the optimal price as well as an approximation method for large scale problems. We also propose a learning method to adaptively revise the firm's estimation of the distributions of customer's willingness to pay and impatience factor according to the customers' purchase behavior. We consider two possible cases. First, we study the case where the firm only provides due-date-guaranteed service. Second, we study the case where the firm offers due-date-guaranteed-optional service, in which the customer can choose either due-date guaranteed orders or due-date unguaranteed orders.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129729612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A literature review of published examples is supported by data derived from a survey of technology commercialization enthusiasts. Supply chain management requires substantial number of deterministic processes so that uncertainty in supplier and end user identification could be resolved. The world is becoming more and more a global market place and the global environment forcing the firms to take almost everything into consideration at the same time. Increase flexibility is required to remain competitive and respond to rapidly changing market. In this context, supplier selection represents one of the most important functions to be performed by the purchasing department. Supplier selection is a multi criterion problem which includes both quantitative and qualitative factors. In order to select the best supplier it is necessary to make a tradeoff between these tangible and intangible factors some of which may conflict. In order to accomplish certain authentic identification of end user selection with several conflicting criteria, the present paper proposes a novel method of Fuzzy Pareto paradigm in supply chain environment. The data for validating the model has been prepared from questionnaire and few brief inferences have been accomplished from the model.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114235554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, if such services are interrupted due to any device or network connectivity or availability problems during the transactions, the EC websites or EC companies may lose business opportunities and even the trust of their customers. Therefore, the Web-feed technology and the grid computing concept were adopted in this study to design a simple, highly available and light weight fault tolerant service scheme that overcomes the drawbacks of traditional high availability (HA) and load balancing approaches. The proposed scheme may be used to enhance the reliability of the proposed EC system, and retain more business opportunities for companies using the system.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125969516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Philbin","doi":"10.1109/ITMC.2011.5996040","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ITMC.2011.5996040","url":null,"abstract":"This paper focuses on multidisciplinary university research institutes and the management challenges that arise in developing and sustaining such institutes. The role of academic institutes is important, they bring together faculty to work on a specific scientific area, which can address a societal or commercial requirement. There are, however, certain issues with this approach, such as the need for effective research co-ordination; the importance of adequate governance mechanisms for managing across disciplines; and in the case of industry supported institutes the need to ensure academic outputs are properly aligned to industrial needs. In this context and through building on the literature on multidisciplinary institutes, a conceptual model has been generated for the development and management of institutes. This institute management system includes a process based on four main stages (design, initiate, deliver and sustain) as well as a set of governance themes. The management system has been applied to the Institute of Shock Physics at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom as part of a case study investigation. Subsequent analysis of the case study findings highlighted how the institute management system provides a broad-based and rigorous methodology to help establish new institutes and then ensure sustainable operations are achieved thereafter. Interpretation of the case study analysis emphasizes the role of the institute's leadership and faculty members in boundary spanning across disciplines and different organizations, and how social capital can be an important ingredient to facilitate this process. Moreover, in the case of industrial partners, their associated absorptive capacity is seen as an important enabler for ensuring companies that collaborate with university institutes have the required structures, processes and supporting culture to enable knowledge to be acquired and then deployed to advance companies' R&D capabilities.","PeriodicalId":369450,"journal":{"name":"First International Technology Management Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130221085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
