Here, channels for estimation with the common pilot scheme are non-precoded channels and channels with the user-specific pilot scheme are precoded channels in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. Both two pilot schemes are included in the standards because two pilot schemes are used for different requirements. The analysis for frequency selectivity of channels presents that pilot sub carriers of the user-specific pilot scheme are densely allocated in the frequency domain, compared with the common pilot scheme.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122752656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal is to build a realistic and accurate model of the monitoring systems' pedestrian flow estimation performance in terms of their estimation errors. Also our model can represent sensor placement considering the number, types, locations and capabilities of sensors in urban scenarios. To this goal, we formulate the sub-problem of estimating accuracy achieved by a given monitoring system under a given placement of sensors. Using a solver for this sub-problem as a sub-module, we also design an algorithm to determine the optimal sensor placement. This algorithm employs a simulated annealing (SA) based approach and iteratively improve solutions to converge to near optimal solutions. Through performance evaluation using our HumanS simulator [1], which simulates human detection sensors, pedestrian behavior and floor structures altogether, we have verified that a derived sensor placement by our proposed method could detect pedestrian flows with high accuracy for an underground city and its estimation error was about 1 percent.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127302120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are applied not only in civilian but also in military. However, when having numerous data, we have to preserve them secretly and can acknowledge which information we need. In this paper, while keeping data privacy, we focus on four queries: value query, range query, outlier query and hot items. Moreover, we can identify outlier values with high accuracy not only in WSNs but also in data stream. In particular, if we deal with less than 200000 values, it just takes less than 0.03 seconds when we find up to 3 hot items or 3 outlier values, and 50 seconds when we use the value query.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116222198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We introduce an analysis tool to evaluate the effect of SIP retransmission mechanism on the SIP server overloading. Our tool is capable of creating various arrival and departure processes using Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP). Extensive numerical experiments are performed by varying mode durations of MMPP and buffer sizes of SIP server. Numerical results indicate that the number of total retransmissions significantly decreases if an incoming request is dropped instead of buffered when the queuing delay of the server has an approximate value of the first retransmission timer. The results provide valuable insights for designing an efficient overload control mechanism for SIP servers.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124969801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the dynamic nature of vehicles, many requirements such as sensor management, signal and image processing or information sharing needs exist when developing a smart sensor-based in-car mobile application. On the other hand, most in-car applications generally employ single-modal sensor analysis, which also yields limited results. Using the advanced capabilities of smart phones, this study proposes a framework with built-in multimodal sensor analysis capability, and enables easy and rapid development of signal and image processing-based smart mobile applications. Within this framework, an abstraction for fast access to synchronized sensor readings, a plug in based multimodal analysis interface for signal and image processing applications, and a toolset to connect to other users or servers for sharing the results are provided built-in. As part of this study, a sample mobile application is also developed to demonstrate the applicability of the framework. This application is used for detecting defects on the road, such as potholes and speed bumps, and it automatically extracts the video section and the image of the corresponding road segment containing the defect. Upon such critical hazard detection, the application instantly informs nearby users about the incident. A good detection rate of speed bumps is obtained in the performed tests, while the advantage of automatic image extraction based on the multimodal approach is also demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123333384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For distributed time synchronization in WMNs, each node controls its transmission time and fast Fourier transform (FFT) starting time within the possible range according to the requests of neighbor nodes. The possible range is determined by the cyclic prefix (CP) and the guard interval (GI) between transmitted sub frames and received sub frames. Simulation results show that this process leads to gradual synchronization of all nodes in the network.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131660212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, many service providers are trying to make it easier for users to access their virtual worlds. However, accessing a virtual world typically requires a client application that needs to be versioned for each device platform and operating system configuration. Using WebGL, an interactive 3D environment can be used on a cross-platform supported web browser. In this paper, we present a system architecture that utilizes an entity-component model, and a prototype implementation of a WebGL-based virtual world client to provide a plug-in free, extensible and open source web client for 3D virtual worlds. The performance of the web client was evaluated in terms of frame rate, CPU load, memory consumption and scene processing speed. Based on the results, the performance of the web client was good on a desktop PC, but mobile hardware specific optimizations are required to provide a good user experience on mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134020162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For several offline computational applications, such as fine grained batch processing, their parallel nature in addition to weak consistency requirements allowed a more trivial transition. On the other hand, on-line processing systems such as Complex Event Processing (CEP) still maintain a monolithic architecture, being able to offer high expressiveness and vertical scalability at the expense of low distribution. Despite attempts to design dedicated distributed CEP systems there is potential for existing systems to benefit from a sustainable cloud deployment. In this work we address the main challenges of providing such a CEP service with a focus on reliability, since it is the most crucial aspect of that transition. Our approach targets low average detection latency and sustain-ability by leveraging event delegation mechanisms present on existing stream execution platforms. It also introduces redundancy and transactional logging to provide improved fault tolerance and partial recovery. Our performance analysis illustrates the benefits of our approach and shows acceptable performance costs for on-line CEP exhibited by the fault tolerance mechanisms we introduced.","PeriodicalId":369374,"journal":{"name":"2013 Seventh International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Apps, Services and Technologies","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125236793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
