Distinguishing between the concepts of activistic art and artivism, they draw attention to the specificity of today’s artistic activities that are engaged in effecting political change. They incorporate a sense of powerlessness, rage and exhaustion into their deliberations, as well as reflect on the presence of artivistic art online. The author, drawing on Julian Hanna’s „The Manifesto Handbook” (2019), briefly reconstructs the origins of the manifesto: first, as a political form of authoritarian speech that was subversively abandoned during the 19th-century rise of democratic ideas in France; second, as an artistic tool, pioneered by Filippo Marinetti, for proclaiming art’s contemporary desires for social transformation. Inspired by Hanna’s periodization of the three waves of manifesto existence, the author of the article considers 2008 as the moment of renewed interest in the meaning of manifestos. The essential analysis develops around selected examples of manifestos of the 21st century, both artistic and scholarly (from the field of humanities). Praktyki postartystyczne i zaangażowanie klimatyczne na plenerach w Opolnie-Zdroju","authors":"Jakub Depczyński","doi":"10.61269/sqrq4044","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.61269/sqrq4044","url":null,"abstract":"The author analyzes the network of activist-artistic practices carried out as part of transdisciplinary gatherings in Opolno-Zdrój, located on the edge of the Turów open-pit coal mine, where the pioneering artistic ecological plein-air event Ziemia Zgorzelecka “Science and art in defense of the natural human environment” took place in 1971. The author describes these activities, conducted by the Office for Post-Artistic Services, using the theory of post-artistic practices and “usology,” and pointing out similarities and differences with related concepts of artivism, socially engaged art, or art with community. Borrowing concepts from the field of environmental humanities and written art theory in the context of the climate crisis, the author shows how those associated with the Office experiment with using art as a tool to enter into relationships and intervene in the reality of Opolno-Zdrój. The post-artistic practices carried out in Opolno-Zdrój are a successful exercise in “ecologizing” the methods and language of art, which allow for meaningful engagement with the issues of the planetary climate and environmental crisis, and provide a valuable tool for expanding imagination, useful speculation, and practical shaping of the future. The author refers to the traditions from which Kaczanowski draws – sarcasm, irony, and dark humor – and then describes the registers of poetry covered by the action of the comic principle. It is expressed in acts of destruction and violence, in metatextual remarks, and in the ontologically non-obvious boundary between humans and animals. Kaczanowski engages in clownery, but it is not an unrisky play: his comedy, supported by a critical approach to a lifestyle dependent on work and consumption, enables staged destructions of the world, which in turn are meant to enable the construction of a subjectivity ready for similar devastation. However, she does not analyze the so-called social choreographies, but two theatrical performances: Odbicia [Reflections] (choreog. Anna Steller) and Swan Lake Solo (choreog. Olga Dukhovnaya), which were shown at the 2022 Warsaw Body/Mind Festival. In the article, they are not treated as realizations of artivism, but as performances that use certain artivist strategies and mobilize the political imagination. Referring to the findings of Sherry Badger Shapiro and Randy Martin, the author illustrates, using the examples of the aforementioned choreographies, how dance becomes “an act of transformative possibility” (Shapiro). Their actions are an active expression of opposition to violations of women’s rights, racism, classism, gender discrimination and top-down identity politics. In each of the cases described, the motivation for artivism is not only violence, but more importantly, the question: what ideas and values do female artists-activists advocate for? The methodological framework for the article is feminist theory (primarily the thought of Sara Ahmed), focusing on the everyday practice of feminism, which includes an awareness of intersectionality, an acknowledgment of one’s own privileges, and a desire to create more ethical and just realities. Their activity is stretched between the demands of adapting to the neoliberal reality of the technosphere (Silicon Valley) and using adaptation to accumulate new competencies and knowledge to develop critical positions. Looking at technologically saturated spaces, the so-called silicon cities, through the prism of AEMP’s artivism allows us to stay attuned to the changes in contemporary artivistic engagement occurring due to the emergence of new technological tools. These play a key role in the authors’ findings regarding the limits of the methodology of resistance produced by the collective. The analysis of AEMP’s practices also provides insight into the difficulties of activists’ rejection of an anti-systemic narrative that is not only incompatible with the interdisciplinary methods, practices, and systems of social organization they propose, but also seems to hinder the possibility of developing a positive project of socio-political change. Persuasion of Neoliberal Governmentality</i> (2019). Among quite a few objections one comes to the fore. Mokrzan effaces to a large extent the critical potential of Foucault’s thought, perceiving it only as a source of useful concepts for the analysis of methods used in coaching for optimizing individuals. No far-reaching conclusions are drawn here regarding the limitation of human freedomand self-determination through new discourses at the service of the modern statebiopower. Is such a domesticated Foucault still the Foucault we have come to know as a relentless opponent of even most sophisticated and inconspicuous forms of power? And even given Foucault’s ambiguous attitude towards neoliberalism and all the hope the was putting in the idea of free market as a factor limiting power, does not coaching remain an almost exemplary tool employed by modern state in purpose of disciplining individuals and augmenting their economic usefulness? The ultimate question is not what the final volume is (in terms of its content), but how it works (worked). The method is therefore autoeth-nography, and the form – the essay. The article is divided into three parts: 1. the original assump-tions of the project and its socio-political context; 2. the clash between queer themes within Polish literature and the discourse of power in the field (that is, the consequences of the fact that the pro-ject was funded by the ministerial program the National Program for the Development of the Hu-manities); 3. the reception of the volume and the reception styles in the context of political dis-putes.
