Typically, the systems studied in this report operate with beam current up to 200 /spl mu/A and beam voltage up to 200 keV. The influence of a strong laser field on the interaction of beam particles into crossover is theoretically investigated. It is predicted, that for intensities of a laser field and for defined parameters of a beam, the effective potential of interaction of beam particles becomes a potential of attraction. It is shown, that this effect allows correcting the blur effect. The influence of quantum effects into crossover on blur is theoretically studied. It is shown, that for sufficiently strong currents and close-cut beams, the corrections due to quantum effects into crossover can have essential influence on blur.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. Due to their bistability they can carry information and are thus interesting for schemes of parallel optical information processing. Various types of spatial cavity solitons exist: bright-, dark-, phase solitons, a special form are vortices (which are tristable) which illustrate vividly the relation of optics to fluids. For technical applications speed is important. We have therefore shown the existence and the manipulation (such as switching solitons on and off) of bright and dark solitons in semiconductor GaAs/GaAlAs quantum-well microcavities. In analogy to 1D diffraction- free discrete solitons we have numerically found that in photonic crystal microresonators the soliton size can be decreased down to /spl sim/1/spl lambda/, increasing the possible information density two orders of magnitude over normal solitons with diffraction.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. In high-rating fiber-optical transfer systems (FOTS) polarizing mode dispersion (PMD) has an essential influence. Using Jones' matrices method, one can obtain output polarization ellipse dependence upon optical medium polarizing parameters, and using Muller' s method one can define polarizing dependent losses. Applying those methods, one can predict maximal allowed PDL values and PMD values, so define error coefficient for specified optical components combination.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. The network capacity defined by modulation properties of lasers and modal dispersion can be increased due to the improving of the dynamical properties and the establishment of monomode operation of the lasers. Semiconductor oxide-confined Vertical-cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) are leaders in their application in local communication systems due to their high-speed rates, wafer-scale integration, high efficiency and small radiated power. Further grow of the output power can be obtained with and increase of the oxide aperture mainly, and it leads to both the multimode regime and an increase of mode dispersion. The aim of the work is the theoretical consideration of the application of the defect in the two-dimensional photonic crystal for establishing the monomode operation of VCSELs.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. Optolink's MIOC is a solid state waveguide device on X-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ substrate fabricated by high-temperature proton exchange method (HTPE). A very important advantage of proton exchange (PE) waveguides is the following. In such waveguides the extraordinary refraction index is increasing, while refraction index of ordinary ray is decreasing. As a result, proton exchanged waveguides support propagation only extraordinary polarization modes (TE in our case). Therefore, it is not necessary to use in the fiber optical gyroscope a polarizer, which brings additional loss.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. The quasiperiodic structures (QPS) are formed under the beam action, these QPS produce anisotropic scattering in both sides from the irradiated spot. The developing of scattering was registered in the direction of light passing through the sample. We showed that instability and turbulence at the QPS formation by Gaussian laser beam have thresholds of exposition. The thresholds are connected with the necessity of QPS development up to the stage, when the interaction between QPS and microgratings, forming QPS and their competition in subsequent growth in developing.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. The evolution of the optical signal envelope along the cascaded fiber transmission system is given by nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE). The results show that dynamic systems with minimum energy losses display general tendency, which leads to the instability of impulse propagation On the other hand, the dynamic systems, that has an energy dissipation, are more stable due to external perturbations. However this criteria is a relative one, it is necessary to achieve a sequence of solutions for some range of parameters of solitons impulses to give the decision concerning a stability of an impulse propagation along the solitons line.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003.
