Combination of smooth and oscillated parameter perturbations leads to additional peculiarities of Bragg reflection. Presence of anisotropy of permittivity or permeability causes coupling of waves with different polarizations. In the present paper using complex form of asymptotic method of Krylov, Bogoliubov and Mitropolsky (KBM), mutual transformation of direct and indirect waves with two polarizations is considered in the case of oblique incidence of the plane wave on medium section with small anisotropy and weak longitudinal inhomogeneity.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. The analysis of nonlinear eigenmodes of the microstructured fiber is presented. The calculation of the nonlinear eigenmodes allows in the first order to define effect of strong self-focusing and saturable gain to dispersion and gain properties of the fibre. For the expansion of the modal profiles on the set of Laguerre-Gaussian functions was used. The properties of azimuthal symmetry of the photonic crystal cladding allow to reduce the number of governed functions in comparison with the method based on the field approximation by Hermite-Gaussian functions.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. The VCSEL array is composed of transversely uniform layers including the Bragg mirrors, thin spacer and loss layers located between elements and active layer consisted of 3 quantum wells. Besides, the output facet is patterned by windows in the metal electrode. The lasing mode was found as a result of an iterative procedure consisting of light round-trips in the device and active layer recalculations based on solution of 2D nonlinear diffusion equation for charge carriers. 3D bi-directional beam propagation method was developed for round-trip calculation. For linear stability analysis a number of higher-order optical modes were found in the VCSEL array with gain and index distributions established by the oscillating mode. The in-phase mode with constant phase over the array, out-of-phase mode with alternating phase between elements and modes with mixed symmetry were considered. Calculations were made for various lengths of spacings between elements and sizes of the array. 4x4 and 5x5 laser arrays were studied numerically. Favourable conditions were found for lasing the in-phase mode providing high laser beam quality.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003. In this case the transition process of forming of the diffractive wave E/sub 1/(r,t), and also enrichment of the spectral structure of the field E/sub 1/(r,t) influence on the spread function (SP) /spl Psi/(t,/spl Delta//spl lambda/). Enrichment of the spectral structure of the field E/sub 1/(r,t) is connected with the nonlinearity of process in the acousto-optical interaction (AOI). Distortion of the SP, caused by mentioned effects, is determined by modulating function of the steering command u(t) of the AOF. In the bend region the radiation loss can arise and influence the propagation properties of the HFs. Therefore, for better understanding HFs properties the behaviour of their modes in bend region has to be investigated. In this paper we analyse the distortion of the mode field distribution and radiation losses arising in HFs because of their bend with different guidance mechanisms. These fibres guide the light due to a central defect in the array using two different mechanisms: a photonic band gap effect or an effective index difference between the defect region, which forms the core, and remainder of the periodic region, which acts as the cladding.","PeriodicalId":368970,"journal":{"name":"5th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling, 2003.
