In the residential and the tertiary sectors, many projects are focused on the installation of low size microturbines, engines, chillers and heat pumps to sustainably provide electrical and thermal energy to final users. In the present paper, the case of the Savona University Campus Smart Polygeneration Microgrid is highlighted, focusing on the performance of the trigeneration plant installed in the microgrid. The operation of the aforementioned trigeneration system, considered innovative for its installation within a microgrid, is described by analyzing real data gathered through an experimental campaign conducted at the Savona University Campus during a summer month. Furthermore, some performance indicators are proposed and the reported results are compared with literature data.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131912549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the moments when the tank is not required to carry out its main function, the proposed use involves the operation of the tank as energy storage system, thanks to the introduction of a pump/turbine group, whose operation will be regulated by electrical market prices. The paper presents the management model implemented in Matlab/Simulink environment, showing how the operation as storage system is well coordinate with eventual renewable generation systems.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132918876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a strong competition between synthetic, man-made nanostructured materials and those coming directly from nature: the first ones can be precisely tailored by properly design and fabrication; the second ones are directly available without any cost of production. In this paper, we report our latest achievements on different materials, porous silicon, zinc oxide nanowires and diatomite powders, which belong to these categories.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132092986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of the optimal sizing of the PV system and the role of self-consumption are investigated considering two typical industrial and commercial users with different load profiles, both equipped with a photovoltaic plant. By considering the actual Italian regulatory framework, the actual costs of photovoltaic installations, and the cost of electricity, the study illustrates the conditions when investments on photovoltaic may result cost-effective with no need of direct incentives or subsidies.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"106 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113935252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, different estimation algorithms based on a dynamic phasor model have been recently proposed in order to comply with the strict requirements needed to accurately track amplitude, phase, and frequency changes of power waveforms in distribution systems. In this paper, a Kalman smoother based on a dynamic phasor model is proposed to estimate amplitude, phase, frequency and rate of change of frequency of the collected waveforms. The accuracy of the proposed approach is evaluated through simulations in different conditions described in the Standard IEEE C37.118.1-2011 and a comparison with a state-of-the-art method is performed.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114940409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among of them, the use of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) will permit to define advanced monitoring system for the distribution grid. However, the unique characteristics of M2M communications pose a number of interesting challenges to the conventional telecommunications networks. In this paper, we analyzed the 4G cellular technology, the Long Term Evolution (LTE), to investigate if it could be a suitable technology for the local loop solution. The analysis in terms of coverage and capacity is provided taking into account two exemplary case studies: AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) and Distribution Substation Monitoring. The aim of this work is to check whether wireless access method of cellular technology is able to satisfy the proposed applications requirements.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123035023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This investigation presents a multi-period alternate current optimal power flow (ACOPF) algorithm for reducing the grid operating cost. The proposed approach uses a receding horizon strategy that solves a non-linear optimization problem during each period by using forecasts and storage dynamics. As a result, the proposed algorithm can optimize the grid operations considering the intermittent renewable generation and storage dynamics. The multi-period ACOPF is illustrated on a Norwegian distribution network with 85 buses and our results illustrate the suitability of the multi-period approach to optimize the grid operations with RES and ESS.","PeriodicalId":368119,"journal":{"name":"2015 AEIT International Annual Conference (AEIT)","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132921092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
