Disease occurrence is a phenomenon that is area-based and include ecosystem both spatial and temporal dimensions. This paper tries to explain the importance, meaning, location and method of area-based disease management. The important basic assumption is that the successful risk and disease control can increase ability to increase and maintain life quality of the people. Area-based development could be implemented by referring to MPBW concept and SKK design for each and every autonomous government. Furthermore, there is a need to develop MPBW guidelines in district level to be used by development designer and planner. About 1,3 milion malnourished children are predicted to lost around 22 million IQ points. Early malnutrition is known to have a great impact on later growth and development. The objective of this study is to investigate the incidence of malnutrition among children age under two years and post two years and their effect on verbal and numeric learning performance. This retrospective cohort study which was conducted on 1.200 children shows consistent results that the earlier a child experienced malnutrition the lower the performance. The risk of having low verbal performance among malnourished children were 25 (children age under two years) and 15 times (children more than 2 years) greater compared to those of normally nourished children. Verbal performance is related to longlife nutrition status while numeric performance is more related to the first five-years of life. Good nutrition status could prevent low verbal performance of 44% and 30% for children under 2 year of age and children more than 2 year, respectively and help prevent 80% and 63% of low numeric performance. \u0000Key words: Nutritional status, learning performance","PeriodicalId":367223,"journal":{"name":"Kesmas The National Journal of Public Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114349878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It causes complication leading to death risk for both mother and her infant. Psycho-socially, teenagers could be isolated, felt ashamed, deppressed, being dropped out of school, difficult to find job, sunk into poverty, and increase population growth rate. This research objective is to describe the epidemiologic situation of pre-marital pregnancy among teenagers and to investigate its determinant factors in Sumedang District. This research found prevalence of pre-marital pregnancy of 40,5%. There are several factors related to pre-marital preganncy, that is, age, frequency of having a dating relationship, parental control, success of parental marriage, and peer exposure. Parental control has the highest OR of 2,90. Prevalence of pre-diabetic has been estimated as higher than prevalence of DM. This research purposed to assess association of behavior risk factors with pre-diabetes incident among population of 40-59 years old in Padang Panjang City in 2008 after controlled by genetic factor. Survey was conducted to the respondents selected using multistage random sampling (n = 174). Data were analyzed with design complex by partial regression, simple logistic regression and multivariate (multiple logistic regression). The study found that the prevalence of pre-diabetes is 57,5% with Plasma Glucose Test (RPG) 115,4 mg/dl in average. Dominant factors were fat consumption (OR = 18,0); fiber consumption (OR = 9,5); and physical activity (OR = 13,7 times). Non specific ARI is accordingly on the highest level in 2006 and caused by smoking. One government effort to decrease smoking habit is by provide warning sign on dangers of smoking. Study conducted by Center for Health Research, University of Indonesia in Jakarta and Cirebon cities in 2007 indicated that 76,3% respondents prefer warning sign in the form of combination of picture and words as an effective health warning. This study analyze perception on warning sign of dengers of smoking using a cross-sectional design among 138 respondents in Jakarta and Cirebon cities. Analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis test. Study result indicated that there is perception difference on warning sign according to age for most effective picture (p = 0,030), sex for most effective picture ( p = 0,000), most supportive picture (p = 0,00), most terrifying picture (p = 0,000), most effective picture (p = 0,001).
