In 1998, the incidence increased sharply (35,19 per 100.000 population) with case fatality rate of 2%. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effect of health counseling on the behaviour of housewives. This research was conducted in 227 respondents in RW 12 of Pondok Kelapa in Duren Sawit district, East Jakarta, to measure respondents’ knowledge and practice before and after health counseling. This research used one group quasy experiment design (pre-and-posttest design). The measuring tool is a list of questions and observation check list that had been tested before. The health counseling on dengue fever significantly influences the knowledge and practice of the housewives. This result showed increase of knowledge and practice before and after the counseling. The average knowledge (14,42; 30%) increased to 18,91; 88,1%. The attitude score increased from 64,42; 70,9% to 69,58; 96,9%. They ought to have a healthy behaviour, however evidence in Cisalak showed the contrary. An intervention study conducted to elementary school children showed that before the intervention, both knowledge and practice were poor. But, in the end of the intervention the knowledge and practice score was considerably higher than before. Non parametric test such as Wilcoxon paired sample test and Spearman correlation were used to analyze the data. Conclusion of the study were: a) health promotion intervention has been proven to improve pupil’s behavior around 30%-240%, b) the knowledge among school children has strong correlation with their practice. Qualitative method was employed including in-depth interview, observation, and document review. Analysis was conducted using content analysis that compare study results with theory. The study found that knowledge, attitude, and perception are relatively good, but has not been followed by appropriate action and not supported by sufficient facilities and monitoring system. Not very good referral system was an obstacle for patient’s family. Medical error was infleunced to happen by the presence of difficult cases, big number of patients, and in hurry action. The source of medical error was human factor, communication, and patient. Insufficiency or less equipped room was also perceived as source of medical error. At the year of 2002, Indonesia total population is about 215 million, with a growth rate between 2000 and 2002 is about 1,25% meaning that there is about 7,3 million people every year. The success of the Family Planning Program is recognized by its indicators, namely Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR). The TFR at SDKI 1997 was 2,8 and in SDKI 2003 was 2,6. While CPR, in two decades has increased double fold from 26 in 1977 to 57 in 1997. The study is carried out in order to know the length of continuation on contraceptive use since the first time of using, in the period of 1997-2002 and related factors. One known efficient measure for reducing the infant mortality rate is exclusive breast feeding (EBF) which in fact showing a decreasing trend (40,2% in 1997, 39,5% in 2002 and 32,0% in 2007). The objective of this article is to evaluate government policy regarding the fulfillment of child’s rights to get adequate breastfeeding. The method used is by literature review of studies about breast feeding policy and regulations in the world and in Indonesia, during the period of 2000-2007. The EBF rates in the word are varied and not related to the developmental level of the country. Japan and England are examples of developed countries with low EBF rate. Formula milk, sosio-cultural, and working women are the most reasons of the low rate of EBF. In Indonesia, the cases of malnutrition among children under five years in 1989 (75/10.000) and in 2002 (70, 3/ 10.000 showed a decreasing trend. Although the benefit of the breastfeeding is known by almost all people, but the EBF rate is still low. Meanwhile, formula milk marketing, sosio-cultural aspects, and the phenomenon of increasing number of working women do not support EBF. In Indonesia, there are only two ministry regulations (237/1997 and 450/2004) that regulated EBF. The existing policies are not strong enough to solve the problem of low EBF rate. It is suggested to improve the legal aspects including policy and regulations as well as improvement in government commitment to support EBF. \u0000Key words: Exclusive breast feeding, policy, formula milk","PeriodicalId":367223,"journal":{"name":"Kesmas The National Journal of Public Health","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126314665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since 1980, family planning gives contribution to the reduction of fertility rate from 5,61 to 2.6 in year 2002. Male contribution by using contraceptive methods is related to many factors such as knowledge, attitude, practice, information limitation, contraception availability and community perception on male contraceptive. This study is aimed to gain information about factors related to the use of male contraceptive methods in Indonesia. This study uses secondary data from SDKI 2002-2003. Study design used is cross sectional with statistical logistic regression analysis. The study results show that proportion of male using contraceptive method is low, only about 7,7%. The methods used include vasectomy 0,5%, condom 2,4%, abstinence 3,1%, and withdrawal 3,6%. Factors related to male contraceptive use are age, education level, residential areas, autonomy in family planning service, knowledge about family planning and male contraceptive, and interaction variable is education*autonomy in family planning service.
