Existing algorithms for processing optical images are not suitable for SAR images because of speckles noise in SAR images. This paper introduces the support vector machine (SVM) segmentation of SAR images based on multiscale autoregressive moving average (MARMA) model, which can capture the statistical scale-dependency of SAR images. Firstly, the multiscale sequences of SAR image are constructed. Secondly, the paper investigates how to establish MARMA model and how to extract the multiscale stochastic characteristics of the different SAR texture images. Finally, the paper classifies the characteristics vector using generalized weighted SIM. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm is efficient.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130879603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, fingerprint, palm-print and hand-geometry are combined for person identity verification. Unlike other multimodal biometric systems, three biometrics can be taken from the same image. Wavelet transform to extract the features from fingerprint and palm-print is used and hand-geometry feature (such as width and length) is extracted after the pre-processing phase. We employ feature fusion and much score fusion together to establish identity. The system was tested on a database of 98 persons. The test performance results indicate the possibility of the combination.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133814970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing methods mainly recognize head gestures in restricted environments like human robot interaction, where face poses are near frontal and head motions are not natural. However, in human conversations, faces of subjects might be in arbitrary poses while head gestures are often subtle. Since the face pose change and head gesture movement are of different scale, we propose to track the face of varied poses with a mixed-state particle filter and detect the subtle head movement by a Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi tracker. The motion patterns in both horizontal and vertical directions are detected and then head gestures are analyzed by a Finite State Machine. Experiments on natural human conversations demonstrated the effectiveness of our method.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133474537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comparing with other registration frameworks, this framework is quite simpler in structure but much quicker in image processing and application development. The input data to the registration process are two images: one fixed image and one moving image. The output data are one result image represents the differences between the fixed image and the moving image after registration. Aside the input and output data, the framework can be separated into three parts: interpolator, measurer and optimizer. Interpolator is used for evaluating moving image intensities at non- grid positions. Measurer provides an appraisal method of how well the fixed image is matched by the transformed moving image. Optimizer can optimize the measure criterion with respect to the transform parameters. These three parts act as different roles in medical images registration and construct a simple, rapid and stable medical images registration framework.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129402359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present an algorithm to extract fingerprint foreground using active contour model, a discriminative feature based on Fisher measure first be constructed to indicate foreground and background, however, the feature fails to describe the foreground and background when applied to those too dry fingerprints, an regulative term based on block-wise average gray level and orientation coherence be added to obtain an even distributing feature which more benefit to carry out curve evolvement. The segmenting method is testified on public fingerprint collection, FVCDBZ, which contains 800 fingerprints with various image qualities. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131126738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, exhaustively searching for the optimal prediction mode vastly increases its computational complexity. To decrease the computational complexity of the mode decision process, a novel fast mode decision algorithm is proposed in this paper to speed up the encoding process by predicting the mode of the current macroblock based on the motion activity of the neighboring macroblocks. The proposed algorithm has two main stages. First, the SKIP mode is utilized as an early termination mechanism to terminate any further checking of other modes. This is quite effective for those regions with low-motion activity. If the SKIP mode is not met, the local macroblocks' motion activities will be identified in terms of motion-vector city-block length. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm achieves a reduction of 56% computational complexity on average, while introducing only 0.059 dB loss in PSNR and 0.2% increment on the total bit rate compared with that of exhaustive trying out all possible modes, being set as the default in the original JM reference software.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133844903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jain","doi":"10.1109/ICIG.2007.63","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICIG.2007.63","url":null,"abstract":"The emerging requirements of reliable and highly accurate personal identification in a number of government and commercial applications (e.g., international border crossings, access to buildings, laptops and mobile phones) have served as an impetus for a tremendous growth in biometric recognition technology. Biometrics refers to the automatic recognition of an individual by using anatomical or behavioral traits associated with that person. By using biometrics, it is possible to recognize a person based on who you are, rather than by what you possess (e.g., an ID card) or what you remember (e.g., a password). Most of the authentication systems based on passwords (knowledge-based security) and ID cards (token-based security) can be easily breached when a password is divulged to an unauthorized user or a card is stolen by an impostor. Biometric systems have addressed the security problems that plague traditional verification systems because they make use of a person's fingerprint, hand shape, iris, face and voice that are supposed to be unique to that person. Besides bolstering security, biometric systems also enhance user convenience by alleviating the need to design and remember multiple complex passwords. No wonder large scale systems have been deployed in such diverse applications as US-VISIT and entry to Disney Park, Orlando. The revenues for the global biometric recognition market are projected to grow from about US $2.1 billion in 2006 to US $5.7 billion in 2010. In spite of the fact that automatic biometric recognition systems based on fingerprints (called AFIS) have been used by law enforcement agencies worldwide for over 40 years, biometric recognition continues to remain a very difficult pattern recognition problem. A biometric system has to contend with problems related to noisy images (failure to enroll), lack of distinctiveness (finite error rate), large intra-class variations (false reject), and spoof attacks (system security). This talk will present an overview of biometrics, its advantages and limitations, state-of-the-art error rates and current research in sensor design, representation, fusion and security issues.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132322069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two major problems suffered from the particle filter are the slow tracking speed caused by the examination of a large number of randomly generated particle samples and the position drifting of the tracked object caused by the interference from outlier particle samples. This paper proposes an improved solution to the above problems. Several experiments are conducted to verify the improvements over the conventional particle filter method.","PeriodicalId":367106,"journal":{"name":"Fourth International Conference on Image and Graphics (ICIG 2007)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130513232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
