The emotional contact is becoming the foundation. In the text of this article, the changes which were the consequence of the father’s functioning were analysed: the model of a family, activities considered typical for fathers and mothers, caring and pedagogical activities undertaken by respondents. In the research carried out by means of a questionnaire (interview), 200 fathers (aged 30–50) of early school-age children participated. The research was done in Poland between 2018 and 2020. The results of the research indicate that the role of the father is changing, although often declaratively. In families, the focus of child care has shifted towards the father, and its main task is no longer to support the family materially. Two hundred twenty four childcare worker in nurseries participated in the study. The study showed that the climate correlated with the influence of the childcare worker’s self-efficacy, while no such relationship with age, work experience or education was observed. Self-efficacy was seen as connected with the atmosphere created in the nursery and positively correlated with it. Both in the past and in the present day, these objects accompany children in everyday life. Reflections on the toys have appeared in the ideas of ancient thinkers, who emphasized the importance of the toy in child development. The aim of this study is to present statements and theoretical reflections on children’s toys, particularly in relations to their functions. In the analysed fragments you can indicate a more or less explicit definition of selected toys’ functions, which were supposed to equip children with specific competences based on gender, social position and other criteria. The categories adopted during the analysis of toys’ socialization and preparation functions are: farmer, builder and warrior, lady of the house, housewife, and mother, caretaker and nanny. Based on the interpretations resting on selected source materials, it can be concluded that the socialization function of the toy was, albeit indirectly, known to many philosophers and pedagogues. While initially few thinkers reflected on the role of a toy, and they also did it “timidly”, with time interest in the toys and children’s games is growing. The main scope of the text is to outline the conceptions of play and work and the ways in which they are intertwined. The outcome space consists of four categories: 1. play as ethical and organizational challenge; 2. play as the obstacle in children’s development; 3. play as activity with no value; 4. play as work/work as play. The first category is framed by the rationality of play being important for the teachers and thus creating a dilemma whether to follow the child and let them play or to follow the Montessori curriculum and focus on free work? The second and the third categories are related with play being insignificant or negative for the development. The last category is the mode of thinking in which one cannot tell play and work apart. From this perspective both play and work are essential for the development of the child and the border between these two forms of activities is blurry. It presents an overview of the findings to date in this area and the results of preliminary quantitative research. When designing the study, we took into account the fact that there are noticeable cultural differences in the attitude to risky play (Guldberg 2009), therefore the aim was to find out about the opinions of Polish parents about this type of activity. The study uses the method of a diagnostic survey conducted with the use of the questionnaire technique. The research trial included one hundred parents of children attending big-city kindergartens. Defining risk by parents (dramatizing it or marginalizing it) determines the limits of acceptable activities, it is a manifestation of power, therefore it is important to consciously approach the issue of risky play. The obtained preliminary data indicate a clear division of the respondents into two groups: parents who are cautiously trusting and parents full of anxiety. The theoretical basis for the research was the recognition of the importance of the project method for the learning process of children from grades I–III. Based on a qualitative analysis of student studies, the practical and methodological dimension of the application of an educational project when working with children from grades I–III was shown. It was noticed that the use of an educational project in work with children of preschool and early school age promotes the integral development of small researchers. Personal involvement of children in project activities translates into positive motivation to work and obtained results in the form of knowledge and skills. In the first part of the text, referring to the classical definition by Johan Huizinga, the characteristics of play and its functions are presented (Hurlock, Brzezinska), the definition of learning by Teresa Bauman is quoted, and the activity of learning understood as a creative process is discussed (Stasiakiewicz). The second part of the text analyzes two theoretical positions (Moyles, Edwards) and relates their fragments to examples from educational practice. The temporal scope covers the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The aim of the present study is to describe selected ideas for making children’s toys published in pedagogical press, women’s magazines, and press for children and adolescents, as well as methodological pedagogy guidebooks. The article also describes recommendations for the use of the so-called educational toys, used for learning through play.
