The proposed approach uses tri-axial accelerometers with consideration of anatomical and sensor constraints. Experiments have been conducted using a wireless sensor network that comprises of tri-axial accelerometer sensor nodes attached to the arm. The results have been benchmarked with a commercial inertial measurement unit to validate the performance and advantages of this new system. Comparable performance in terms of accuracy has been obtained at a much reduced cost and lower power consumption.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117303701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed DPC strategy is based on the Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and it is implemented in the dq reference frame. The active and reactive powers are directly controlled by VSC switching states selection based on the instantaneous value of the delivered power error. This strategy may be implemented to various VSC topologies. Moreover, linear controllers and modulators are not necessary. The aim of the control strategy is to inject maximal available active power and a controlled amount of reactive power into grid. The strategy is tested on a simulation model of a multilevel VSC (ML-VSC). Simulation results of the tested VSC topology and harmonic analysis of the output signals are presented at the end.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122897608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These facades must be periodically maintained with manual procedures that are costly and risky. For this reason, the interest in developing and employing service robots for the building wall maintenance has been increased. Automation and robotics technologies allow safe and environmentally friendly facade cleaning, monitoring, and painting, which also reduce the cost of these tasks. These systems resolve the current safety problems associated with difficult and dangerous access, contributing to a zero injury and fatality in working performance. This paper deals with developing a Building Wall Maintenance Robot (BWMR) system based on a guide rail built in curtain-wall. The robot consists of both of horizontal and vertical units. The horizontal unit performs the maintenance works and is carried up and down by the vertical unit. The robot is designed to be fully automatic unlike other existing similar types of maintenance systems. Its feasibility has been verified through the experiments with down-sized robot and lab-scale building façade.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126449018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The several types of intelligence technologies, such as localization, environment recognition, autonomous locomotion, driving assistance, and mapping, are being developed for the PMR in order to support comfortable driving [2][3]. On the other hand, in the case of the PMR, it is important to improve the performance of the vehicle motion. However, roll vibration can easily occur when the PMR travels on bumpy roads or turns quickly. Therefore, a novel control approach is proposed in order to suppress the roll vibration without the additional actuators or mechanisms. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been verified by conducting simulations and experiments using a prototype PMR.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130103097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, also testing and debugging efforts have to focus on models. Some debuggers for modeling languages already exist but they lack the flexibility to fix errors and verify the correction at runtime. In this paper, we consider how debugging concepts of general-purpose programming languages can be mapped to story diagrams, a behavior modeling language, and what has to be considered in general when implementing debuggers for a modeling language. Then, we present a debugger for story diagrams. In addition to common debugging features, it allows to change the executed model at runtime and to revert the execution to an earlier point, which provides a higher flexibility to the developer. After finding an error in the model, the developer does not need to restart the execution from the beginning, but can go back to a point before the error, fix the error, and continue executing the model.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"146 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130179790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The robot was developed at the PPRIME Institute in the ROBIOSS team from Poitiers University. Based on laparoscopic surgery, specification for workspace and constraints are outlined and the architecture selected for the surgical robots is presented and discussed. Analytical models of the inverse and forward kinematics are provided together with a detailed analysis of mobility and constraints. The proposed approach is based on motion capture of an expert gestures during which an anastomosis technique has to be performed. The evaluation of the workspace is based on the use of the Vicon Nexus motion capture system. The medical gestures were analyzed in term of position and velocities; the result has been used in the definition of the kinematics specifications of the proposed manipulator. The effective workspace size is determined through an experimental study on a simulator. The spherical serial robot (3R-T) has been selected because of its characteristics meeting the constraint requirements. The robot and its environment are described.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130280463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The gas breakdown inside the gas chamber occurs due to the ionization of gas molecules by accelerated electron impacts. The acceleration of electrons is very depending on the effective electric field applied on them. In this work we report the design, modeling, and simulation of a miniaturized GIS based on nanowires. In this report it is shown that the local electric field (responsible for the breakdown of gases) at the nanowire tip can be enhanced by optimizing the device structure and parameters such as nanowires shapes, the distance between the nanowires, and the nanowires lengths. We have developed simulating software based on an open source simulator XOOPIC. The simulation tool is based on combined Particle-In-Cell and Monte-Carlo-Collision approaches. The tool is developed to model and simulate the gas ionization sensor to detect various gases with optimized breakdown volatges. In order to enhance and speed up the design and simulations, the effective electric field, and screening effect due to the interaction between electric fields of individual nanowires were preliminary studies. For this we used COMSOL, a multiphysics simulation tool, and the results of these studies were used to model the device utilizing XOOPIC. In our model we have achieved designs for the devices with faster response and lower breakdown voltages for various gases.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130879745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specific software based on the finite elements method (FEM) for solving non linear magneto-static problems has proved very useful for this characterization. However, to solve the Maxwell equations it is necessary first to know the magnetization curve of the material used for building the motor, which may not be available in the program materials library. A simple and low cost method for a direct determination of the first magnetization curve of a magnetic material is presented in this communication. Through one single test of short duration, (which allows to reach high values of the magnetic field strength while keeping the material temperature practically constant), we obtain a B-H curve that fits correctly to the samples obtained by a traditional method requiring the identification of multiple hysteresis loops. This B-H curve has been included in a FEM program to determine the flux linkage-current-position characteristic of a SRM prototype. The results again fit those obtained experimentally, confirming the validity of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":365141,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-03-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130988160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
