Nose is a sense organ which performs two functions i.e. olfactory and respiratory. Due to direct contact with the external environment, it is exposed to a lot of microorganisms and pollutants present in the atmosphere. Sushruta samhita describes Jeerna Pratishyaya in resemblance of chronic rhinitis. Rhinitis is the common disease of the present era. When rhinitis not treated properly, it leads to a chronic stage. It is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa. Neti is a wonderful way to clean the nasal passages which help to remove mucus and dirt from the nose, hence, clears the blockage. Through the effect of osmosis and capillary action, the blood vessels of the nose are stimulated to cleanse well. Hence, by balancing breathing action, a better balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system achieved. So, it is said to balance two important energy centres called Ida and Pingala.","PeriodicalId":365000,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF CONVENTIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND HOLISTIC HEALTH","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121743768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information on the emergency conditions in visha pidita purusha (patients of poisoning) was collected from the ancient Ayurvedic classics, viz. Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Samgraha and Astanga Hridaya. The informations were compiled and the concepts were thoroughly studied to find out the similarities and dissimilarities among the concepts of emergency conditions due to exposure to the poison. It has been found that the concepts for application of the principles and procedures of management of emergency situations were hypothecated. The ancient Acharyas of Ayurveda were experienced and vigilant with the emergency situations that can arise from the exposure to the poisons. They elaborately described the signs and symptoms of the condition and gave guidelines for diagnosis. The procedures like Anjana, Nasya, Dhuma, Siratadana, etc. are mentioned as treatment of the situation by all the Acharyas. A good number of drugs for Anjana, Nasya and Dhuma are mentioned by the Acharyas which are potent and strong to cause stimulation of the nervous system. Mritasanjivana is a unique procedure advised by the Acharyas to apply at the terminal stage of the patient which is not described in detail. From the present study, it can be concluded that the ancient Ayurvedic Acharyas were aware of the serious and emergency situations that may arise due to poisoning. They knew the procedures of diagnosis of such situations and also developed a module for treatment. It can be assumed that these modules of treatment showed satisfactory results. Extensive study and research with multidisciplinary effort are prayed.","PeriodicalId":365000,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF CONVENTIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND HOLISTIC HEALTH","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122561967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Failure to eat a well-balanced diet in the morning has been documented to have a deleterious impact on the health such as nutritional disorders, non-communicable diseases and failure to cognitive performance. Ayurveda texts mentioned that consuming food in the morning enhance memory power, life span, energy, complexion, and lustre. The objective of the present study was to study the relationship between breakfast and BMI values. Fifty cases of male and female, between 20 and 60 years were randomly selected from OPD in Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella, Sri Lanka. The relationship between breakfasts with BMI was evaluated. Socio-demographic characteristics such as age, gender, religion, ethnicity, occupation, monthly income, residential area and education were gathered through a questionnaire. BMI was measured and that was compared with information related to breakfast as a morning drink, type of food consumption, skipping breakfast, veg food habits and time having breakfast. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, version 17.0. Mean age of the study population was 42 years in which 58% were females. According to BMI values, 6% underweight, 42% normal weight and 52% were overweight respectively. When comparing breakfast habits with BMI categories, there was no significant relationship with milk as a morning drink, rice and curry as a morning diet, vegetarian food, skipping breakfast (p>0.05). Consumption of tea as a morning drink which was significantly related with BMI values (p=0.023) as well as taking refined wheat flour product as a morning diet, having breakfast at 6.00 am to 9.00 am were significantly related with BMI (p=0.017 and p=0.020, respectively). The study indicated that the drinking tea, consumption of refined wheat flour product and time of the taking breakfast were significantly related with BMI.","PeriodicalId":365000,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF CONVENTIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND HOLISTIC HEALTH","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122180608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can be overcome by following detail discipline and process to take the Ahara (food). The three basic pillars of Ayurveda are Ahara (food), Nidra (sleep) and Brahmacharya (following the path of God Brahma). Among these, Ahara has been placed first which shows it is important to maintain and sustain life. Ahara-vidhi-vidhana described in Ayurvedic classics are the foundation of dietetics, which indicates the method of Ahara i.e., ushna, snigdha, matravata (adequate quantity) and jirne ashniyat (food after digestion of previous meal). The present concept note is written on the basis of literature available online as well as the textbooks including Ayurvedic classics. It is characterized by the responsiveness of the tracheobronchial tree to a multiplicity of stimuli. It is manifested physiologically by a widespread narrowing of the air passages. In susceptible individuals, this inflammation causes recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and cough particularly at night or in the early morning. These symptoms are usually associated with wide spread but variable air flow limitation that is at least partly reversible either spontaneously or with treatment.
