In that context, the quantum technology has made it possible not only to design a compact size system with improved performance but also to reduce the computational power and time. This presentation aims to provide a short overview through cases studies of the recent use of quantum computing in the design of the elements employed in the receiving section of a transceiver, such as active low-noise amplifier and passive phased-array antenna. This paper encourages the future studies in the domain of quantization effect of electromagnetic energy opening the way for other applications such as quantum communications and/or quantum radar schemes.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116004062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With its ultra-large bandwidth and immunity to electromagnetic interference, free-space optical (FSO) communication has stood out as a major connectivity solution for UAV-to-UAV and UAV-to-ground links. While the performance of horizontal terrestrial FSO links is mainly limited by atmospheric-turbulence-induced fading, geometrical and atmospheric losses dominate the link budget of an airborne link between a high-altitude fixed-wing UAV and a ground station. Since the fixed-wing UAV continuously moves, the transmission distance between it and the ground station changes, causing both atmospheric and geometric losses to change, which results in the fading effect. In this paper, we statistically characterize this aggregate channel coefficient. First, we derive a probability density function for the channel coefficient; then, we obtain an expression for the instantaneous received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We validate our derived expressions through numerical calculations.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132199053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These models are typically stored in a model store, an online repository that is part of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) frameworks. Unfortunately, selecting the optimal ML model from a plethora of available options is challenging. The problem becomes even more pronounced when the micro-location of the user and the dynamic aspects of the environment are taken into account. To this end, we propose a dynamic approach for selecting the most appropriate ML model using Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). We demonstrate its effectiveness in a specific use case of energy consumption forecasting. We validate the proposed solution using the energy consumption dataset HUE and demonstrate that it outperforms heuristic methods for model selection by over ten percent while remaining cost-effective.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126280172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decoupling the system components allows designers to create virtual environments to test a physical system without disrupting the live system. Creating such systems is crucial in many areas that affect human life. One of these areas is agriculture systems, which are involved with food production, a fundamental human necessity. Uncontrolled agricultural activities can also have negative results. For example, excessive irrigation increases the risks of droughts and damages the ecosystem. In this work, we identify the direction of modern agricultural developments and their systematic implementation using the Digital Twin concept. Later we overview the existing mechanisms in light of our given approach.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133994326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides a line-of-sight (LOS) link with a capacity comparable to fiber optics and much higher than those that can be supported by radio counterparts. Rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with FSO terminals can be positioned as a complementary aerial solution to the terrestrial backhaul links in dense areas with high-peak traffic demands. In this paper, we consider a solar-powered rotary-wing UAV equipped with an FSO terminal that provides backhaul link to a ground base station in an urban area. We first quantity the energy consumption and energy harvesting of a rotary-wing solar-powered UAV. Then, we formulate an optimization problem to determine the optimal operation altitude with the goal of maximizing the net energy of UAV while satisfying the LOS requirements critical for the FSO link. Our results show that the selection of operation altitude is highly dependent on the weight of the UAV as well as the size and efficiency of the solar panel.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"220 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134046525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is essential to monitor these networks to ensure smooth operations by detecting and correcting link failures or abnormal network behaviour proactively, which can otherwise cause interruptions in business operations. This paper presents a novel method for detecting anomalies in wireless links using graph neural networks. The proposed approach involves converting time series data into graphs and training a new graph neural network architecture based on graph attention networks that successfully detects anomalies at the level of individual measurements of the time series data. The model provides competitive results compared to the state of the art while being computationally more efficient with $approx$171 times fewer trainable parameters.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133747453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, Digital Twin (DT) technology and IoT technology started to be used. These solutions’ success relies on the performance of the communication between the IoT devices and the DT. However, the current solutions embody scalability, context awareness, and interoperability challenges. To address these, we propose YANG-powered DT Middleware. Moreover, considering the intrinsic characteristics of DT communication, we propose the DT-specific aggregation scheme. As a result, we decrease the latency and round-trip time (RTT) and lower the resource consumption in IoT devices. Moreover, context-aware communication in DT-based Farming is enabled.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133807791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MIMO systems require accurate channel state knowledge to apply correct precoding. In 5G Time Division Duplex (TDD) systems Channel State Information (CSI) is obtained via Sounding Reference Signals (SRS) transmitted by User Equipments (UEs). UEs have limited power capabilities and thus cannot achieve high uplink (UL) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on gNodeB (gNB) in large bandwidth. There are multiple methods that can be applied to improve the accuracy of the channel estimation (CE) in noisy conditions. In this paper the beam-delay Vector Autoregression (VAR) denoising method is proposed. The pre- and post-processing steps are described. The performance of VAR denoising is compared with the baseline approaches. The obtained results and possible improvements are discussed.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127370390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reason for this difference has been demonstrated theoretically and experimentally in this study. The work created in the CST program using the inset technique was carried out on fR4 substrate and measured in the laboratory with NanoVNA. As a result, the theoretical and simulation values and measurement results are consistent. The antenna can be used in the S band. Examples from the literature and the gap in the literature are given in the introduction; design equations and proof of recalculation for effective dielectric constant are shown in the theoretical calculations, the materials used and the method followed are presented in the method and materials; computer program simulations and laboratory measurements take place in the simulation and measurement section, respectively. There are number of potential scenarios for RIS-enabled systems in the non-line-of-sight communication scenarios while having blockages between transmitter and receiver. However, blockages may also occur between transmitter-RIS and RIS-receiver channels. This work proposes a realistic system model with RIS in the presence of blockages within the whole communication channels. For the considered system model, the achievable data rate is derived analytically in the environment where the blockage model follows the Poisson point process. Discrete phase shifting RIS is used in the proposed system due to the practical deployment scenarios. Thus, the effects of the number of RIS elements, coding bits number, and density of the blockages on achievable data rate are investigated. The performance of the proposed system depends heavily on the intensity of the blockages. The accuracy of the analytical results is verified via extensive simulations.","PeriodicalId":363999,"journal":{"name":"2023 International Balkan Conference on Communications and Networking (BalkanCom)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120945441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
