In this paper we discuss a pratical approach that combines sketch mapping and content analysis with code clouds in order to visualize the results. It illustrates that perception of space derives not from absolute spaces but must be seen as some mutual relation between different places and scales. Everyday life is where this connection comes into existence. Knowledge of the building stock in terms of use and dimensions is an initial basis for quantifying land potential for internal development or for locating areas with particularly high energy-saving potential. The aim of the methodology developed in Zentrum Alpines Bauen is to develop a reliable database for characterizing the existing building stock. The gained knowledge should be made available to the planning policy and administration in order to be able to implement it in spatial development concepts. A GIS-based methodology was developed, which enables an automated derivation of indicators regarding the geometry of buildings that are essential for spatial planning. In the SCHOOL project (pwp-systems, 04.04.2021 [online]), is pursuing such an approach with the mytraQ app. With environmentally oriented traffic management and different strategies, the aim is to determine suitable (alternative) routes for a user in order to relieve conurbations with increased traffic. In this way, air pollution could be reduced. In order to achieve a noticeable effect, a wide dissemination of mytraQ and a high degree of compliance are to be aimed for. The main influencing factors are the quality of the recommendations, a reward in the form of time miles and a good user acceptance in terms of design and usability. This paper focuses in particular on the usability of mytraQ and presents an approach for its evaluation and optimisation. The core of this is a specially developed application called “FeedTraQer”, which enables the objective collection of relevant information from representative usage scenarios. Based on a GIS, we therefore want to model a regional energy landscape that corresponds to the objectives of the UN Climate Conference of Paris in terms of its regional greenhouse gas balance in the electricity sector. Area-wide, highresolution data enabling comparisons is essential for an early consideration of aspects of the scenic landscape in planning processes. These requirements are met by the GIS-operationalized visual landscape sensitivity, which can be assessed based on the visibility. Moreover, additional factors influence the perceived visual magnitude of wind turbines.
