Present study, conducted in the aphidologically uncharted Poonch division of Azad Kashmir during 2017–2018, yielded 12 new alien species. Of these, Aphis (Aphis) sambuci; Hyperomyzus pallidus; Neomyzus circumflexus; Pleotrichophorus chrysanthemi; Uroleucon ambrosiae, and Uroleucon compositae are invasive species, while Aphis (Aphis) asclepiadis; Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus; Macrosiphoniella (Asterobium) victoriae; Macrosiphum (Macrosiphum) gei; Nasonovia (Nasonovia) ribisnigri, and Sitobion (Sitobion) africanum are non-invasive alien species. Among these, Aphis sambuci, Pleotrichophorus chrysanthemi, Aphis asclepiadis, Macrosiphoniella victoriae and Neomyzus circumflexus are new records for Pakistan. Systematics, diagnosis, host plants, study area and general distribution of the encountered alien aphid species are presented herewith. The present study also scrutinizes invasive-species/biogeographic status of nine lately documented new aphid species in the country. Out of 21 species in 18 genera, pooled under latter two parameters, 14 invasive species in 10 genera were found invasive. Palearctic elements with a total of 14 species in 11 genera dominated the data while Afrotropical, cryptogenic, Nearctic, and Oriental regions had two species in as such genera each.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135944008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Instar I nymphs hatch before the onset of oak’s growing season and develop under rhytidome, feeding on the jelly-like coating of egg clutch and molting. As oak leaves unfold, instars II–III leave their shelters and begin feeding on leaf sap. Adults live in the oak crown. The sequence of molts of all nymphal instars, their feeding, and the timing of seasonal development of the species in nature are documented.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135344726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 7 species were recorded from the study area. The new species is brachypronotal with anterior margin of pronotum slightly rounded; robust hind femora; and antennal grooves with top margin above bottom margin of eyes and bottom margin slightly below. The new species is in many ways similar to Hedotettix gracilis. Hedotettix (gracilis) species group is described to include these two species, which differ mainly in the shape of the hind femora, scutellum, and anterior margin of pronotum. The taxonomy of the genus Hedotettix is problematic, and it is likely to be paraphyletic. Future works involving molecular studies would solve the taxonomic problems. Bolivaritettix insignis (Kirby, 1914) is recorded for the first time from Nepal.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136263209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an ecologically diverse country, ant checklist compilation was carried out in Eswatini in order to determine ant diversity and distribution within the country’s major ecological terrestrial biomes. Collections by various sources over the years have resulted in the determination of 148 species from 41 genera in 6 subfamilies, with Myrmicinae being the dominant one with 74 species. Within the terrestrial biomes, the savanna had 77% of the species recorded while grassland and forest biomes had 52.7% and 25% of the species, respectively. Three species, Anoplolepis custodiens (Smith, 1858), Polyrhachis schistacea (Gerstäcker, 1859) and Pheidole megacephala (Fabricius, 1793) were the most widely distributed in the country. There were also the first records of Myrmicaria faurei Arnold, 1947 and Terataner transvaalensis Arnold, 1952 outside of their known ranges in Mpumalanga, South Africa, as well as Camponotus liogaster Santschi, 1932 outside of its known range in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The forty-eight species identified only to genus level illustrates the taxonomic gap within entomology. This checklist confirms the importance of such documentation of species at both local and regional scale, contributing to knowledge on the region’s biodiversity and its distribution.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84963067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
