The new species appears to be close in habitus to the Turkish endemic T. caeruleus Naglis et Negrobov, 2020, differing from the latter in somewhat smaller body, yellow hind tibia and tarsomeres, with only tarsomere 5 brown; hypandrium relatively broad, without constriction, with arrow-like apex and distinct flexion at apex. Thrypticus caeruleus was described from Aydın and Muğla provinces with body length 1.7 mm, hind tibia and tarsomeres dark brown, hypandrium thin, nearly straight, parallel-sided in distal half, with short constriction in middle. In all, 29 species are recorded from the Antalya, Bolu, Burdur, Kayseri and Sakarya provinces. Six species of long-legged flies are reported from the country for the first time: Diaphorus deliquescens Loew, 1871, Dolichopus linearis Meigen, 1824, Dolichopus planitarsis Fallén, 1823, Gymnopternus silvestris (Pollet, 1991), Medetera media Parent, 1925 and Poecilobothrus annulitarsis Kazerani, Pollet, Khaghaninia, 2017. As a result, the dolichopodid species number in Turkey has increased to 230. It is supposed that the real number of Turkish species possibly may reach 400 to 500 species, based on the faunal richness of adjacent countries.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"61 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139154276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Host plants, country of origin and year of first interception are given for intercepted species on imported plants, 234 species in total. A second list of 149 species of Coccomorpha is presented summarizing the scale insects that were at least once found in greenhouses in the Netherlands during the observation period. The data of each species includes the first year of detection, the host plant on which the species was found and the type of greenhouse in which it was discovered. A group of 29 species has been found in greenhouses but has never been intercepted during import inspections. During the observation period several species were described as new to science e.g. three Rhizoecidae species: Ripersiella emarai Jansen, R. maasbachi (Jansen) and R. multiporifera Jansen, two Pseudococidae, Paraputo ensete (Williams & Matile-Ferrero) and Phenacoccus emansor Williams & Kozarzhevskaya, and one Qinococcidae Jansenus burgeri Foldi. A small part of the material could not yet be identified to species level with certainty.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"54 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139153228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adult and immature stages of the reared specimen are illustrated. The larva lives within a tunnel in the soil. At the ground surface, the tunnel extends above ground as a tube of grass stalk fragments cut by the larva and bound together by silk. These feeding tubes are found at the base of grass tussocks, principally among the dense accumulation of dead stalks. It is not known if the larvae feed on dead or live grass foliage, or a combination. The feeding tube is the second mode of larval feeding documented for ground dwelling southern African Hepialidae, the other being 'silk purser' feeding webs of unknown taxonomic status. The lectotype for Gorgopis libania Cramer, 1781 is here designated.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"43 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138946418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This species was listed as “Endangered” in the Brazilian Red List due to its small area of occupation and isolated populations under strong anthropogenic pressure. Based on scientific collections and citizen science data, the present study provides information about new geographic records of P. catiena and its perspectives on conservation. A total of 19 specimens of P. catiena were found in six public / private collections, as well as six photograph records of live specimens from citizen science reports. A recent photograph from a locality in the state of Espírito Santo (southeastern Brazil) resulted in an increase in both the extent of occurrence and the area of occupation estimates of P. catiena, implying a possible change in its conservation status. Besides providing new geographical information for a little-known species, the present study also highlights the importance of citizen science in contributing to the knowledge of threatened species and their conservation assessments.","PeriodicalId":36221,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Insect Biodiversity","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138944850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
