The main purpose of this work is to highlight transmission constraints of terahertz radiation through the plants in the THz frequency region. Multiple leaves of plants are examined using the THz Swissto12 system, and the effect of thickness and water contents on transmission loss and attenuation are observed at different frequency regions, which can lead to meaningful information to study and analyse the existence of any pesticides in leaves with terahertz frequencies. The results of this paper pave the way for applicability of terahertz frequencies for sensing the quality of life in plants.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127909446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The completed research and development works concern the practical implementation of the mobile BSP management position, also referred to as the Ground Control Position (NSK). The implementation of communication will use tropospheric dispersion. Using the properties of off-shore radio lines, the range of BSP will be increased with a ground station from 40 to 150 km. At the same time, the transmission speed of the digital stream will increase to 15÷20 Mbps. Thus, the possibility of observation of the terrain will be increased, which will be reflected in the transmission of telemetry data and video. Movement of the UAV causes a reduction in the transmission speed in the radio channel and the occurrence of time delays. Eliminating these drawbacks will be used to predict the correction of antenna settings, which will put them to the maximum signal strength. The goal is to increase the transmission speed of the digital stream. The system will allow to achieve the assumed bit rates and fully eliminate the loss of BSP control and its loss.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124533383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue of changes in orientation occurs mainly when the ophthalmologist compares the progression of lesions, and the OCT examinations were performed under different acquisition conditions. The authors investigated the impact of the acquisition on the correctness of fovea pit contour (FPC) determination. The model is based on a body shadowing pattern associated with the on-body antenna, represented by a cosine function whose amplitude parameter is calculated from measurements. This parameter, i.e the maximum body-shadowing loss, is found to be linearly dependent on distance. The model was evaluated against a set of off-body channel measurements at 2.45 GHz in an indoor office environment, showing a good fit. The coefficient of determination obtained for the linear model of the maximum body-shadowing loss is greater than 0.6 in all considered scenarios, being higher than 0.8 for the ones with a static user.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130237121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper presents a study of passive (typically far IR) technologies for IR vision and an analysis of the state-of-the-art in the extraction of information from IR images. A deep testing of segmentation methods was performed for IR images with a specially prepared benchmark of 162 IR video frames with pedestrians. The initial tests included two segmentation methods: the single threshold and the Otsu method. The obtained results are promising as the effectiveness reaches ca. 82% for both techniques.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131827909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The localization and number of the antennas on a human body influence on the power of received signal. The configuration of two antennas mounted on the different part on human body ensure the higher probability to receive signal with good quality independently to the position of the antennas. The measurement equipment and measurement procedures are described. The mean system loss is in the range of 54.42 dB and 64.28 dB. The difference coefficient between mean values of system loss corresponding to two wearable antennas is in the range of 0.69 dB and 8.76 dB. The standard deviation of the mean system loss is in the range of 6.46 dB and 7.39 dB. Measured correlation coefficient between signal received by two wearable antennas for each scenario is in the range [−1.25.10−3, −1.01· 0−1]. The statistical analysis showed that using space diversity scheme can ensure better quality of the received signal.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134319427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process of building fully functional, cybernetic brain-computer communication interfaces (BCI) is currently attracting more and more attention. Automatic performance of activities by means of BCI technology is possible owing to appropriate acquisition and processing of mind signals. State-of-the-art interfaces which do not require human physical activity (in the context of healthcare) provide an opportunity for the disabled to live independent lives. This paper aims to present and evaluate the potential of the available brain-computer interfaces in terms of incentivizing people with disabilities to lead independent lives.","PeriodicalId":362184,"journal":{"name":"2018 Baltic URSI Symposium (URSI)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123893217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
