To comply with international conventions, China implemented targeted mangrove restoration policies, but their effects on ecosystem functions against the backdrop of climate change remain unclear. Our study used bird diversity (a key ecological proxy) to examine whether policy-driven mangrove expansion had promoted such functions. Results showed that China's mangrove area increased by 166% over the past three decades (1998-2020). Bird diversity correlated strongly with mangrove area and coverage. The number of threatened species on the IUCN Red List increased by 91%. Climate change promoted the expansion of mangroves. Mechanistically, mangrove expansion improved marine quality, regulated phytoplankton, and synergized with climate change, boosting avian diversity. China's mangrove protection policies have effectively facilitated mangrove restoration, which in turn has enhanced bird diversity by improving marine habitat conditions. Our findings confirm policy effectiveness, validate the restoration feasibility of coastal ecosystems, and inform global coastal restoration.
","PeriodicalId":36121,"journal":{"name":"The Innovation","volume":"7 10","pages":"101400"},"PeriodicalIF":39.5,"publicationDate":"2026-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13673541/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"149216675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As large-scale prevention efforts expand globally, identifying individuals most likely to benefit is increasingly important. We analyzed two randomized trials, the Mass Intervention Trial in Linqu, Shandong Province (MITS; ChiCTR-TRC-10000979; n = 1,740), and the Shandong Intervention Trial (SIT; NCT00339768; n = 1,811), to characterize genetically determined heterogeneous treatment effects of H. pylori eradication for GC prevention. We identified 11 genetic variants that modified the preventive efficacy of eradication and integrated their genotype-specific conditional average treatment effects into a polygenic treatment benefit score (PTBS). We further compared a benefit-based strategy prioritizing individuals predicted to derive greater benefit for GC prevention with a risk-based strategy defined by a polygenic risk score and assessed whether benefit-based subgroups exhibited differential residual GC risk post-eradication. With the PTBS, targeting the high-treatment-benefit individuals conferred stronger protection against GC (MITS, hazard ratio [HR] = 0.44, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.35-0.54, number needed to treat [NNT] = 56; SIT, HR = 0.20, 95% CI 0.10-0.41, NNT = 26) than treating all H. pylori-positive participants or those of high genetic risk. PTBS further stratified residual GC risk among individuals post-treatment (MITS, HR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.52-0.81; SIT, HR = 0.27, 95% CI 0.13-0.56, for high-treatment-benefit individuals) and was associated with slower precancerous lesion progression. Our findings suggest that host genetic factors modulate the preventive efficacy of H. pylori eradication and that incorporating genotype-specific heterogeneous treatment effects provides a framework for enhancing the precision of population-based screen-and-treat programs while supporting post-eradication risk management.
","PeriodicalId":36121,"journal":{"name":"The Innovation","volume":"7 10","pages":"101402"},"PeriodicalIF":39.5,"publicationDate":"2026-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13673542/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"149216846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While recent advances in large language models have significantly facilitated automation of this traditionally time-consuming task, their computational demands limit scalability and accessibility. Smaller specialized systems offer reduced computational requirements but sacrifice accuracy, domain generalization, or the extraction of contextual details. To address these gaps, we present Quinex, a domain-agnostic framework for quantitative information extraction based on comparably small language models. Quinex identifies quantities and their associated entities, properties, and qualifiers using a multi-turn question-answering approach. By addressing the data bottleneck, considering implicit properties, and optimizing extraction order and question templates, Quinex achieves state-of-the-art F1 scores of over 98% for quantities, 82% for entities, and 87% for properties across diverse scientific genres. It goes beyond identification by normalizing units, aligning them with a unit ontology, and detailing critical qualifiers such as references, spatiotemporal scopes, and determination methods. By reducing the effort required to extract structured quantitative data from texts, Quinex enables transformative applications, including automated literature reviews, quantitative search, and trend monitoring, and sets a new benchmark for scalable, accurate, and domain-agnostic quantitative information extraction.
","PeriodicalId":36121,"journal":{"name":"The Innovation","volume":"7 9","pages":"101391"},"PeriodicalIF":39.5,"publicationDate":"2026-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC13556337/pdf/","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"148920447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"综合性期刊","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
