The modified theory developed from the application of SDT lenses on the analysis of the influence of five sociodemographic factors on 372 participants’ civic engagement report. Results showed significant variations across groups – male participants and individuals who have higher education and income were more likely to participate in politics, while male participants and individuals who have higher income were more likely to engage in human rights activism. Human rights activism was also more likely to be engaged in by emerging adults and individuals with secondary education. Generally, based on the SDT, low sociopolitical awareness were found. Analyses of these patterns led to the contextualised SDT that better explained our findings. Using the modified SDT lenses, high sociopolitical awareness with low sociopolitical (civic) action were found, although variations across sociodemographic factors remained consistent with SDT. The implications of these results were discussed in terms of the importance of understanding the nuances of civic engagement in diverse democracies and the relevance of contextualising imported theories. Suggestions for increasing civic engagement towards stronger democracies were also advanced.","PeriodicalId":360663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Sciences & Educational Studies","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129507656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are other determining factors of teaching quality;however, in this process, online education has been an important factor in the decrease in teaching quality. In order to determine how valid it is, the students we studied on, were given a questionnaire in accordance with the Likert scale and the results were evaluated. According to the results we obtained, most of the students stated that the teaching quality decreased in the online education process.","PeriodicalId":360663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Sciences & Educational Studies","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117074970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a qualitative transcendental phenomenology design to explore the coping strategies of teachers in the implementation of radio-based instruction and modular distance learning during the pandemic. The researchers interviewed ten teacher participants from the Division of Tangub City, Philippines. Following the phenomenological data analysis, categories emerged based from the interview transcripts. The coping strategies of teachers in the new normal are problem-focused and emotion-focused. The problem-focused coping strategies are problem-solving, time management, and social support. For emotion-focused coping, the sub-themes are reframing, having a positive attitude, and praying for guidance. Thus, teachers, regardless of their years of experience, have similar coping strategies to overcome challenges. The study also found the importance of the administrators' role in developing training and webinars for the teachers' psychological health to be efficient and effective in their work.","PeriodicalId":360663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Sciences & Educational Studies","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121323512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, code-switching has been a critical issue for some teachers because they think it decreases students' performance. In contrast, other teachers use code-switching as a teaching tool. Instructors and students of the English language in Kurdistan higher education institutions tend to use two or more languages alternately and fluently for a variety of reasons and functions in bilingual classes. The paper aims to examine the function of code-switching (CS) on EFL students. Moreover, it investigates the instructor's view toward CS in ESL classrooms. The observation and interview were carried out to collect data among three different groups of twenty-five students. The result of the observation was compared to the interview result for better analysis. Finally, the finding of this paper proves that lectures code-switch for different purposes: explaining the topic, asking the question, checking students' understanding, and classroom management. In addition, during the interview, two lecturers claimed that they do not employ code-switching in the classroom, but it was observed that they do when instructing.","PeriodicalId":360663,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Social Sciences & Educational Studies","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127241660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
