The adaptive controller requires limited modeling information about the system, specifically, Markov parameters from the control input to the performance variables. Often, only a single Markov parameter is required, even in the nonminimum-phase case. We analysis the stability of the algorithm using a time-and-frequency-domain approach. We demonstrate the algorithm on disturbance-rejection problems, where the disturbance spectra are unknown. This controller is based on a retrospective performance objective, where the controller is updated using either batch or recursive least squares.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127321186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing algorithms mostly address the case where the measurements live in a Euclidean space. In this paper, we propose distributed algorithms for averaging measurements lying in a Riemannian manifold. We first propose a direct extension of the classical average consensus algorithm and derive sufficient conditions for its convergence to a consensus configuration. Such conditions depend on the network connectivity, the geometric configuration of the measurements and the curvature of the manifold. However, the consensus configuration to which the algorithm converges may not coincide with the Fréchet mean of the measurements. We thus propose a second algorithm that performs consensus in the tangent space. This algorithm is guaranteed to converge to the Fréchet mean of the measurements, but needs to be initialized at a consensus configuration. By combining these two methods, we obtain a distributed algorithm that converges to the Fréchet mean of the measurements. We test the proposed algorithms on synthetic data sampled from manifolds such as the space of rotations, the sphere and the Grassmann manifold.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127487392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, flame image-based burning state recognition has received much attention. However, most of the existing methods demand accurate image segmentation, which is quite challenging due to poor image quality caused by smoke and dust inside the kiln. In this study, we develop a more reliable method for burning state recognition without image segmentation issue. From the experience of operators, more discriminable flame and material zones will facilitate the subsequent feature extraction and burning state recognition. Motivated by this knowledge, we propose to include texture analysis based on Gabor filter as a pre-processing to improve the recognition result further and then extract global features based on eigen-flame images decomposition, and finally recognize the burning state using pattern classifier. The advantages of our method are threefold. Firstly, our Gabor filter selection approach can generate a compact filter bank to distinguish ROIs much more and offers help to facilitate the sequel. Secondly, the eigen-flame image method provides global features of an image with large class separability and hence can lead to more accurate classification performance. Thirdly, the new method is more robust and reliable than image segmentation-based methods and temperature-based method. Experimental studies show the effectiveness of our method.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127525984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of JIT modeling uses distance based similarity measure for local modeling, which may be inappropriate for many industrial processes exhibiting non-Gaussian behaviors. Since most of industrial processes are non-Gaussian, a non-Gaussian regression (NGR) technique is used to extract non-Gaussian independent components that are correlated to response variable in the sense of mutual information. Support vector data description (SVDD) is then performed on the extracted independent components to construct a new similarity measure. Based on the similarity measure, a novel JIT modeling procedure is proposed. Application studies on a numerical example as well as an industrial process confirm that the proposed JIT model can achieve good predictive accuracy.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"68 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124787694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The switching or changes in the network topologies is modeled by a Markovian process. By incorporating communication capability among controllers, the distributed congestion controller is shown to be in fact equivalent to a local state feedback control plus a nearest neighboring controllers' adjustment with proportional gains. Numerical simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and capabilities of our proposed DGCC strategies.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125156677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It navigates a trade-off between representation capabilities of the model (structural bias) and effects of over-parametrization (variance increase of the estimates). There exists many approaches to this widely studied problem in terms of statistical regularization methods and information criteria. In this paper, an alternative ℓ1 regularization scheme is proposed for estimation of sparse linear-regression models based on recent results in compressive sensing. It is shown that the proposed scheme provides consistent estimation of sparse models in terms of the so-called oracle property, it is computationally attractive for large-scale over-parameterized models and it is applicable in case of small data sets, i.e., underdetermined estimation problems. The performance of the approach w.r.t. other regularization schemes is demonstrated in an extensive Monte Carlo study.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125791821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In one of our previous works, we already presented a cooperative estimation algorithm called networked visual motion observers. In this paper, we first clarify averaging accuracy attained by the networked estimation mechanism. Then, we analyze convergence speed of the estimates and clarify a relation of the speed to the graph structures. Moreover, we also reveal a tracking performance of the estimates to target objects motion and derive a connection between the tracking performance and a visual feedback gain in the algorithm. Finally the effectiveness of the present estimation algorithm is demonstrated through experiments.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125529611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work extends previous research dealing with RHC of nonlinear delayed systems in several ways: first, a rigorous proof is given for that the RHC guarantees global, uniformly asymptotic stability of the nonlinear delayed systems. Second, the nonlinear system with multiple time delays is considered. Third, the procedure of an adaptive RHC controller is presented by combining the on-line delay value estimation. Through a simulation example, it is demonstrated that the proposed adaptive RHC has the guaranteed closed-loop stability for a special type of nonlinear differential difference systems.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126855263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novelty lies in the synthesis of ILC with sliding-mode control such that the tracking performance and accuracy can be improved. The considered system is first transformed into two subsystems such that the new design can be applied to broad systems. Based on the transformed systems, an ILC is designed for the first-order derivative of the control signal, instead of the control signal itself. The variable structure functions are therefore integrated such that the chattering can be eliminated accordingly. The convergence of the output-tracking error is also proved. The effectiveness of the new ILC for output tracking is verified in a simulation study.","PeriodicalId":360068,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114909320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
