Joint-based control (JBC) is tuned using bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA). The objective of the work is to investigate the performance of the BFA with adaptable chemotactic step size in the control of a flexible manipulator in comparison to the original BFA. Lagrange equation discretised by finite difference (FD) approach is used to represent the dynamics of the flexible manipulator, incorporating payload with flexible mode associated damping and hub inertia. The FD method is chosen because it can represent flexible manipulator dynamics adequately well. The impact of two different cost functions is examined and discussed. The controller performance is evaluated based on the hub-angle output in time-domain.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132872097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process requires recognition of a semantic object and gathering the new information into the collection that already exists for that object. Another related operation is collecting a set of distinct semantic objects that are similar. These operations become complicated in the presence of schema and extent heterogeneity and semantic similarity. Although a rich body of research addressed these issues in the literature, a database language support is yet available possibly because an algebraic formulation of these concepts was absent. An algebraic characterization is needed for query plan generation, optimization and query processing. In this paper, we propose two new binary operators called link (λ) and combine (χ) that capture the spirit of vertical and horizontal data fusion. The proposed operators leverage the development in schema matching and key identification technologies by casting them as user selectable functions μ and κ. We show that link and combine are generalized versions of traditional join and union operations. We also propose two extensions of SQL that exploits these two operators and opens up many optimization possibilities. We also point out that link and combine are also useful for semantic data integration and are currently being used in LifeDB data management system for Life Sciences applications.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127634821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are on the one hand the narrow scope of genetic algorithms developed specifically for searching optimal catalyst, on the other hand the insufficient dealing in existing implementations of genetic algorithms with mixed optimization. The paper outlines a program generator automatically generating problem-tailored genetic algorithms from descriptions of optimization tasks in a specific description language. For constrained mixed optimization, the generated algorithms employ an approach based on formulating a separate linearly-constrained continuous optimization task for each combination of values of the discrete variables. On the set of nonempty polyhedra describing the feasible solutions of those tasks, discrete optimization is performed, followed by solving those tasks for each individual of the resulting population of polyhedra.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114479253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes how the recent discovery of the four Semantic Categories has made it possible for a machine to analysis any assertion, however convoluted, by means of Semantic Category Analysis: a procedure which provides a basis for future Man/Machine dialogue. Analytical examples discussed include the resolution of ambiguity, conundrums, paradox, and the type of assertion that ordains the improbable as the unquestionable. Philosophers make pronouncements that refer to us and our environment in the form of untestable assertions. Testable assertions are scientific, not philosophical. Semantic Category Analysis, a testable scientific procedure, detects beguiling linguistic contrivances: such as the readily persuasive ‘Semantic Intertwine’. Since Semantic Category Analysis can be automated, philosophical tomes can now be scanned for such contrivances. Semantic Category Analysis thus provides the basic foundations of a long overdue field of research: ‘The Science of Philosophy’.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121263049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These algorithms are mostly static and assume that the flow of materials among facilities is fixed. However, in today's real-world scenario, manufacturing facilities must operate in a dynamic and market-driven environment in which production rates and production mixes are continuously adapting. The dynamic facility layout problem (DFLP) addresses situations in which the flow among various facilities changes over time. In this paper, we present a hybrid genetic algorithm for the DFLP by incorporating jumping gene operations introduced in the jumping gene genetic algorithm (JGGA) in the form of a local search. A computational study is performed with several existing heuristic algorithms. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in dealing with the DFLP.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134559518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is realized with single-input single-output (SISO) and single-input multiple-output (SIMO) control configurations in a flexible plate structure. A simulation environment characterizing a thin, square plate, with all edges clamped, is developed using the finite difference (FD) method as a platform for test and verification of the developed control approach. Tests are carried out with different disturbance signal types, namely random and finite duration step. The control design comprises a direct optimization of the controller parameters based on minimization of the error (observed) signal. The RCGA is formulated with a fitness function based on mean square of the observed vibration. The performance of the system is assessed and analysed both in the time and frequency domains and it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme reduces vibration of the flexible plate significantly.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124482401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A VMS is generally used to inform motorists the roadway, traffic, or weather conditions. It is also used to display travel times and public service announcements. This study attempts to utilize archived traffic data from the MRR1 freeway area in Kuala Lumpur to assess the effects of VMS in terms of distance headway and density. Results show that usage of Variable Message Signs reduces the density during the duration of the incident until the clearing of the resulting congestion by a significant amount. The results demonstrate that VMS has no significant impact on distance headway.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130315391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm provides flexibility and optimality by swapping between two objective functions, based on preferential and subtractive defense strategies as and when required. To further enhance the solution quality, we outline and divide the critical parameters used in Threat Evaluation and Weapon Assignment (TEWA) into three broad categories (Triggering, Scheduling and Ranking parameters). Proposed algorithm uses a variant of many-to-many Stable Marriage Algorithm (SMA) to solve Threat Evaluation (TE) and Weapon Assignment (WA) problem. In TE stage, Threat Ranking and Threat-Asset pairing is done. Stage two is based on a flexible dynamic weapon scheduling algorithm, allowing multiple engagements using shoot-look-shoot strategy, to compute near-optimal solution for a range of scenarios. Analysis part of this paper presents the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed algorithm over an alternative greedy algorithm as applied to different offline scenarios.","PeriodicalId":359942,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 9th International Conference on Cyberntic Intelligent Systems","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126686626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
