This study explores the quantitative measurement of Rutin in various buckwheat varieties grown in different regions of Uttarakhand using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). Twelve seed sources of Fagopyrum tataricum from the Garhwal and Kumaon regions, along with Fagopyrum esculentum seeds for comparison, were collected. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extracts revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and carbohydrates, with methanolic extracts showing higher concentrations. TLC analysis was employed to determine the most effective solvent system for Rutin separation, leading to the identification of three samples with substantial Rutin content. HPTLC was then used for quantitative Rutin assessment, with a calibration curve established using standard Rutin solutions. The three selected samples, along with the standard, were applied to HPTLC plates, and the Rutin content was measured based on peak areas and peak heights. The sample collected from Joshimath, Uttarakhand, known as \"JOG,\" exhibited the highest Rutin content. This study provides valuable insights into the phytochemical composition of buckwheat varieties in Uttarakhand, which can inform the development of high-quality functional foods. Rutin, a potent antioxidant with various health benefits, underscores the significance of buckwheat as a naturally occurring functional food source. The results contribute to understanding the Rutin-rich potential of buckwheat grown in Uttarakhand and its applications in functional foods and nutraceuticals. Further research in this field can promote the cultivation and utilization of buckwheat as a source of this valuable bioactive compound with numerous health benefits.","PeriodicalId":35945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"43 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138972675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Psoralea corylifolia, often known as babchi, is a well-liked herb that has been utilised in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for many years for its miraculous abilities to treat a variety of skin conditions and Leptadenia reticulata, also known as Jivanti is an herb that is traditionally used in treating the conditions like malaria, diabetes, and liver disorders. The present study investigated the larvicidal properties of endophytic fungi isolated from Psoralea corylifolia and Leptadenia reticulata against Aedes aegypti. The highest larvicidal activity was seen in Trichodermata viride and Candida albicans species from leaves of L. reticulata was found to be 85.71% and 90.47 at 20 ppm. Likewise, Piriformospora indica and Aspergillus niger species from the leaves of P. corylifolia was found to be 66.66% and 83.33 % respectively. Candida albicans from leaves of L. reticulata and Aspergillus niger from the leaves of Psoralea corylifolia showed the highest mortality percentage was found to be 90.47 and 83.33 at 20 ppm respectively. The present study reveals the determination of optimal, eco-friendly, and selective mosquito larvicidal agents. The development of innovative and affordable medications to combat diseases spread by mosquitoes will be aided by more research on the isolation, characterisation, and determination of the mechanism of action against the selective mosquitos.","PeriodicalId":35945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"2017 46","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139002073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently available drug regimes for management of diabetes mellitus have certain drawbacks and, therefore, there is a need for safer and more effective antidiabetic drugs. Natural products from medicinal plants continue to form a common platform for the discovery of new chemical entities in the modern drug discovery programmes. The belief that natural medicines are much safer than synthetic drugs has gained popularity in recent years and lead to tremendous growth of phytopharmaceutical usage. A wide array of plant derived active principles (phytochemicals) for possible use in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus has been reported. Curcuma longa is commonly used in the treatment of diabetes by ayurvedic physicians. Curcumin is a biologically active component isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma longa that possess antihyperglycemic activity, hypolipidemic action and anti - renal lesion effect. The use of curcumin is recommended for prevention of advanced glycated end products (AGE) accumulation and the associated complications of diabetes. Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC), one of the active metabolites of curcumin on antioxidants status in streptozotocin (STZ) - nicotinamide induced diabetic rats. THC is used in the treatment of several diseases such as prevents cancer, protects against inflammation, atherosclerotic lesions, hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity and diabetes. THC has been reported to exhibit the same physiological and pharmacological properties of curcumin. Curcumin is rapidly metabolized during absorption from the intestine, yielding THC, which has shown the strongest antioxidant activity among all curcuminoids. Curcuma longa has been used medically for many years to treat chronic disorders. The whole plants are used for treating diabetes. Curcumin has been reported to produce significant atihyperglycemic effect. Administration of THC has significant antidiabetic effect in STZ - nicotinamide induced diabetes. The THC exhibited its antidiabetic effect by influencing the carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, oxidative stress induced lipid peroxidation, membrane bound enzymes, insulin binding to erythrocyte receptor and collagen content and its characteristics. The antidiabetic effect of THC provides sufficient documentation to define its role and action for its potential and promising use in treating diabetes.","PeriodicalId":35945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"31 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138974822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
