Internet joke is a hybrid genre of modern communication; it can be political, virtual, mundane, etc. The study involved general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, and interpretation, as well as special linguistic methods of discourse and content analyses. The most frequent characters in jokes about V. V. Putin appeared to be D. A. Medvedev, D. S. Peskov, R. A. Kadyrov, D. Biden, B. Obama, D. Trump, etc. The image of V. V. Putin is dominated by his influence, authority, strength, and leadership in the Russian and international political arena. By comparing V. V. Putin with other political figures, jokes ironically reduce his image or that of his political associates and opponents. They also represent popular ideas about the unique character of presidential status in Russia.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132570517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It featured the official community of students, graduates, academics, and employees of the Ural State Law University in the Vkontakte social network. The research objective was to identify the specifics of tonality in the communicative and pragmatic aspects of the virtual genre. The method of categorical-textual analysis revealed the types of tonality that made up the tonal field of virtual communication, as well as their linguistic explication means at the lexical, morphological, syntactic, and graphical levels. A specific transformation of tonal varieties proved to be a characteristic feature of the hybrid virtual genre: it combined a monologue text and a reflective commentary on it. The neutral and benevolent tonalities of the monologue tonal core were complemented by peripheral varieties of the commentary text with pleading and disapproving tonalities. In the commentary texts, the tonality of benevolence remained in the core, while the neutral tonality became peripheral. The communicative and pragmatic solution was evaluated as positive when the tonality in the tonal core of monologue texts and comments was benevolent, or when the neutral tonality of the monologue text turned benevolent in the commentary. These tactics yielded a positive perception of the information presented by the sender of the message.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121094198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The copyright software package Monitoring and Analysis of Social Networks, Internet Communities, and Users provided automatic data processing to restore the semantic core of the discursive fields generated by Typical Krasnodar and Typical Kemerovo online communities in 2021–2022. The analysis was visualized as social graphs and semantic core models. It identified a number of sensitive topics that generated a lot of feedback. The method also proved efficient in predicting cultural and socio-political trends. The complex methodology provided rapid identification of amplified discursive activity, conditions for social unrest, and bifurcation points for destructive social practices. The results may contribute to effective information management and social strain relief in the regions through discursive control of online communication.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130772916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current political situation has turned many Internet resources into a platform of information-psychological warfare. Network discourse is anonymous and moderated by the resource owners. For instance, YouTube videos and comments can have a manipulative effect on Internet users, who develop certain mental frames as a result of interaction of mental and language structures. Charles Fillmore defined frames as structured knowledge that unites elements and associations related to specific cultural realities, situations, and events from human experience. The author believes that Internet comments may shape certain network variants of frames. The analysis of the network frame hostile encounter made it possible to identify the lexical units that make up its core, as well as to analyze the content of its obligatory and non-obligatory elements within the linguistics of information-psychological warfare.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"459 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116094887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research objective was to describe the consistency of comments to news texts published in social networks. This article focuses on the results obtained on the centripetal trend. The approach and methodology were based on the scientific hypothesis about the self-developing nature of communication in social networks. According to this hypothesis, the degree of subjectivity of online news discussion can be transmitted to the dialogue through the text of its comments. The original news text becomes the basis for comments, which are independent texts focused on the original news. As a result, the original text turns into a complex branched network. Comments develop as chains or branches of discussion responses, which can be analyzed. This research featured an Internet text from the Vkontakte social network, its comments, and their mental map. The ratio of centripetal and centrifugal tendencies revealed a certain pattern: the consistency of the original text determined the consistency of comments. The patterns of their correlation showed how the self-developing nature of communication created new linguistic phenomena. The article is of interest to specialists in Internet communication and social networks.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122636748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors analyzed the website of Zhorin and Partners Bar Association, Moscow, to verify this hypothesis. Various structural elements were responsible for highlighting particular features of the firm and its employees, e.g., professionalism, success, high profile, etc. The site proved to be interactive and demonstrated an admirable ratio of static and dynamic content. The analysis revealed five strategies of positive image cultivation: the firm was described as accredited, authoritative, successful, and prestigious, sometimes in an exaggerated way. Each strategy had its own language means. The website of Zhorin and Partners demonstrated an elaborate structure, a well-structured content, a high-quality linguistic design, and a variety of communication strategies. All the elements of the website contributed to a positive image of the law firm and its public promotion.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121041490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The empirical base included 3,000,000 Twitter messages in English. The sampling by keywords women and abortion covered the period from May 1 to July 31, 2022, which saw an outburst of online and offline civic activities regarding some national anti-abortion policies. The resulting web corpus of network linguistic data (datasets) was subjected to multidimensional analysis using such methods as Data Science, mathematical modeling, relational sociology, corpus analysis, discourse analysis, etc. All these procedures combined resulted in a multidimensional comprehensive analysis of the simulated English asynchronous multimodal discursive field in Twitter. The models made it possible to visualize online communications in social networks, as well as to describe the discourse of online communication between pro-choice and pro-life. The authors analyzed the pragmatic potential of network communities on the current political agenda. The method might help to identify the conflict potential that can evolve from online communication into offline socio-political actions.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127243385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to assess the characteristic linguistic features of young people in social networks. The research material was the data of a questionnaire aimed at identifying the motives and goals of young people in network communication. About 150 people (students of different faculties and courses) were interviewed. An anonymous survey was conducted by 100 schoolchildren (the age of teenagers ranged from 12 to 17 years). On the youth platforms of the Runet, data from Internet discussions and comments from communication participants are collected. The results of the study showed that the reconstruction of the portrait of the linguistic personality of a young user of social networks is associated with the following factors. Firstly, a special digital linguistic personality is being formed in the Internet space. It acts as a synthesis of a real linguistic personality with its constructed image. It has its own language features. They are revealed in a new vocabulary, modified by the youth itself, slang. A modern student in the context of social networks has a synthesis of two spheres – educational and communicative. The vocabulary of a modern teenager is reduced to simple colloquial expressions, often profanity (obscene words), jargon. The speech of teenagers has become very everyday and real. Most words of modern slang have several features: these are mostly abbreviated and borrowed words. The dynamism of the modern world is reflected in the very frequent use of nouns with event meaning and verbs. Secondly, against this background, the text is increasingly accompanied by illustrations, stickers, emoticons and many others. The importance of social networks for the self-expression of young people is emphasized.","PeriodicalId":359429,"journal":{"name":"Virtual Communication and Social Networks","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132519391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
