In particular, the impact of the delay distortion of the wavelength-selective switch (WSS) on the network performance is analysed and discussed. To this aim, an extension of a physical model of the WSS is proposed to predict the phase response of the WSS. The study is performed for 42.8 Gb/s single-side-band MB-OFDM systems comprising 3 or 4 OFDM bands and operating with 25 GHz channel spacing. Optimized parameters for a Gaussian and 2nd order super-Gaussian band-selector are used. It is shown that the delay distortion of typical WSSs has a negligible impact on the network performance. The reduction of the overall filtering passband of the ROADM cascade is identified as the main factor of performance degradation.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127213678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the monochrome super-resolution using Wiener filtering is applied to Wavelet Transform coefficients to mitigate the effects of random noise in the low resolution images. Then, the standard and Wavelet-domain super-resolution algorithms using Wiener filtering are applied to color channels to perform the color images super-resolution. A chrominance compression method is proposed to reduce the number of operations required for estimating the high resolution image.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133180649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we build on our previous work with the goal to develop a faster transcoder from H.264/AVC to HEVC. The transcoder is built around an established two-stage transcoding. In the first stage, called the training stage, full re-encoding is performed while the H.264/AVC and the HEVC information are gathered. This information is then used to build a CU classification model that is used in the second stage (called the transcoding stage). The solution is tested with well-known video sequences and evaluated in terms of rate-distortion and complexity. The proposed method is 3.4 times faster, on average, than the trivial transcoder, and 1.65 times faster than a previous transcoding solution.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121322312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an approximation for the SINR of a precoded multicarrier system employing linear MMSE equalization, the lognormal distribution with the smallest Kullback-Leibler distance to the observed SINR distribution is used. With this approximation, an expression for the coded pairwise error probability of this system is given. The Bit Error Rate (BER) performances with analytical computations using the lognormal approximation are very close to Monte Carlo simulations for coded systems.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122915098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea is to use the neural network to estimate pump power levels and speed up the AGC proportional integral gain controller convergence. For experimental testing, the algorithm was embedded in a microprocessor inside an EDFA module, which was then placed in a fully-loaded reconfigurable DWDM optical link (80 × 112 Gbits/s DP-QPSK channels). By assuming a central point in the controller power mask, results show that gain control is kept below 2 dB for a giving surviving channel, with strong transient suppression during add/drop of 79 out of 80 channels (19 dB input power variation), leading to minimum undershoot/overshoot below 3.1 dB.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126151216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the computational cost associated with the operation of several filters in parallel could be unaffordable for some applications. In this paper, we propose a scheme with reduced computational cost for a combination of two adaptive filters with different step sizes, working in scenarios with a low signal-to-noise ratio and where the energy of the unknown system is concentrated at short delays. For this case, we propose to reduce the length of the fast filter, speeding up the convergence of the combination at the cost of a slight degradation on the steady-state error. We study and evaluate the performance of the combined scheme considering the length of the fast filter as a parameter. In addition, we discuss a possible application of this scheme in real-world acoustic echo cancellation for hands-free systems in cars.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125640598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The techniques directly related with audio for second screen synchronization - the sound detection using the audio fingerprint technique - are well established. Experiments using audio watermark might reveal good solutions but are not fully explored in the literature. The aim of this paper is to evaluate and compare the transmission and receiving effectiveness of audio in the IPTV context. An analysis is carried out from laboratory trials using a second screen application with the function of detecting audio watermarks through different audio transmission and reception equipments. The results show that audio watermark can be transmitted over IPTV networks and also improve the interactive media usage scenarios.","PeriodicalId":359348,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130500650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
