A retrospective case report and review of the literature. A biopsy of the tissue was sent to a histopathologist who confirmed tubercular lesion, with acid-fast bacilli stained by the Ziehl-Neelsen method and a tuberculin test done to confirm the diagnosis with weak positive. Also, we have done an immunological test to exclude the autoimmune diseases, such as Wegener′s granulomatosis (the test was negative). Moreover, urine analysis and Ca+ in urine were negative that excluded the autoimmune diseases such as Wegener′s granulomatosis and sarcoidosis. A human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test was negative. Maxilla-orbital tuberculosis can be primary or secondary, irrespective of the immune status of the host. Clinical suspicion is important when a patient presents with unusual clinical features and it mimics acute exacerbation of chronic sinusitis with orbital complication.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130508346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fine needle aspiration cytology may be used for its diagnosis. Smears of five cases of Ca ex-PA diagnosed on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and confirmed on histopathology were analyzed and diagnostic features were assessed. All cases had history of long-standing masses with recent increase in size. Smears showed high grade carcinoma with differential diagnoses of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, adenocarcinoma NOS and salivary duct carcinoma. Features suggestive of PA origin included chondromyxoid stroma: Benign epithelial cells and scattered plasmacytoid cells. The overall agreement between cytological findings and histopathological diagnosis was 100%. Diagnosis of Ca ex-PA may be possible on FNA by correlation with clinical history and detection of chondromyxoid stroma and benign myo-epithelial cells.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134382443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recommended management for ameloblastomas of jaw is in accordance with the management of malignant tumors, and the traditional approach to these lesions is a mandibulectomy through a lip-splitting incision. We used visor flap in the present case as it has an excellent blood supply, avoids lip splitting, and offers a simple but extremely versatile tool for craniofacial reconstruction. In male patients, it can provide neo-lip tissue, a moustache, and a beard.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122007628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can be classified as central and peripheral osteomas. The peripheral osteoma of the mandible is relatively uncommon. Though most of the cases involving the mandible arise from the mandibular body, angle, condyle head, or coronoid process, we report one such case unusually arising from the anterior surface of the neck of the condyle, the pterygoid fovea region. We believe it is the first recorded case of an osteoma arising from the pterygoid fovea region.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130904717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ST occur more frequently in the permanent dentition but rarely in primary dentition and seen commonly in males than in females. ST occur in all regions of the dental arch. Identification and localization of ST are very important for diagnosis and management. ST may cause various complications that include delayed or impaired eruption of adjacent teeth, displacement or rotation, crowding, abnormal diastema, premature space closure, dilaceration or abnormal root development of permanent teeth, cyst formation, and eruption into nasal cavity. Thus, the early identification and appropriate treatment plan is essential to prevent the possible complications. There are many opinions given by different authors in management of ST based on some case studies and reports. The removal of ST should be done at an early age to avoid possible complications. Furthermore, it is advisable to avoid aggressive surgical approach for removal of ST, if not associated with complications.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133559063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A questionnaire listing ten clinical situations was designed. It was given randomly to 100 medical professionals and 500 members of the general public. They were asked to choose the appropriate specialty that they would prefer to approach for undergoing treatment of certain specific conditions related to the head and neck regions. Results: The results were compiled and tabulated and the data analysed. The current status pertaining to the perception about the specialty was not promising. Only 30% of the medical professionals and 7% of the general public had ever approached an oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) directly. Conclusion:The specialty of OMFS is critical for addressing several medical and surgical issues. There is a need to promote and increase awareness regarding a large spectrum of work that is being carried out by OMS′s in order to enhance better patient care and outcome.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114608456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Eighty three patients who were diagnosed [according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD) Axis I] and seeking treatment in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology were evaluated for the impact on the OHRQoL by the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). SPSS 17 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL) was used to analyze the data. Statistical tests used were the t-test, Chi-square test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: The mean age of the sample was 34.8 years with the male: female ratio as 1:5.9. The mean OHIP summary score of the TMD population was 23.3 ± 19.2, compared to 3.32 ± 4.41 for the general population. The mean OHIP score was not statistically different for males (20.6 ± 13.9) and females (25.0 ± 19.2) P = 0.189. The highest mean OHIP score (4.71 ± 3.91) was calculated for osteoarthrosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), followed by disc displacement without reduction with limited opening (4.21 ± 3.86). Conclusion: The patients with TMD had lower OHRQoL as compared to the general population. The patients of muscular disorders and osteoarthrosis were found to have a greater impact on the quality of life (QoL) as compared to the disc displacement group.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115187468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is caused by use of areca nut in various forms. Areca nut contains high level of copper as compared to other commonly eaten nuts. Copper acts as cofactor of lysyl oxidase (LOX) that controls maturation of collagen. Aims: The aim of the study is to estimate tissue copper level in OSMF patients with habit of areca nut chewing and to correlate any change in tissue copper level with histopathological grading of OSMF. Materials and Methods: A hospital based case-control study was done on 30 subjects visiting out-patient department (OPD) of Kothiwal Dental College Moradabad, of which 15 were clinically diagnosed OSMF cases with habit of areca nut chewing and 15 were taken as controls with no habit of areca nut chewing. Tissue copper levels were measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Results : The study showed highly significant difference in mean tissue copper level (P < 0.001) in patients with OSMF and controls, with patients exhibiting higher tissue copper level (6.43 ± 1.11) in contrast to control who presented low tissue copper level (4.35 ± 0.91), also a highly significant correlation (P < 0.001) was seen between increase in tissue copper level and histopathological staging of OSMF. Conclusions : The present study confirms the hypothesis that copper level in increased in areca nut chewers presenting OSMF. Moreover, copper level increased with increased in histopathological grade of OSMF.","PeriodicalId":359264,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cranio-Maxillary Diseases","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130474121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
