Visor approach for the total excision of a large multicystic ameloblastoma of the mandible

Abstract

Ameloblastoma is a locally aggressive and infiltrative benign odontogenic tumor that has a high tendency to recur but rarely metastasizes. The recommended management for ameloblastomas of jaw is in accordance with the management of malignant tumors, and the traditional approach to these lesions is a mandibulectomy through a lip-splitting incision. We used visor flap in the present case as it has an excellent blood supply, avoids lip splitting, and offers a simple but extremely versatile tool for craniofacial reconstruction. In male patients, it can provide neo-lip tissue, a moustache, and a beard.
