In this paper, we illustrate a model for the resolution of a problem of choice between alternatives, when numerous and often contradictory points of view must be taken simultaneously in consideration. We describe its implementation inside Cloud Agency to broker the proposals that best fit user's needs.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132149817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a novel business model for sales promotion in retail chain stores with the use of WLAN localization and near field communication (NFC) technologies. The objectives of the business model are to increase the flow volume of customers into the retail chain stores and their incentives in purchasing selected items in the stores. In the proposed business model, the NFC technology is used as the first mean to motivate customers to come to the stores. Then, with the use of WLAN, the movement behavior of the customers, who are carrying smart phones, within the stores is captured and maintained in a movement database. By exploring the movement behavior of a customer, personalized promotion and marketing strategies can then be applied to increase the incentive of the customer for purchasing his interested items when he enters the stores again. In addition, we also propose an enhanced R-tree for indexing the data items maintained in the movement database and to support various types of spatial management and marketing queries to maximize the utilization of space in a store for displaying the sales items.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133182866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the effect of applying a convolution code to the Scattered Random Network Coding (SRNC) scheme over a multi-hop wireless channel was studied. An interleaver was implemented for bit scattering in the SRNC with the purpose of dividing the encoded data into protected blocks and vulnerable blocks to achieve error diversity in one modulation symbol while randomising errored bits in both blocks. By combining the interleaver with the convolution encoder, the network decoder in the receiver would have enough number of correctly received network coded blocks to perform the decoding process efficiently. Extensive simulations were carried out to study the performance of three systems: 1) SRNC with convolutional encoding, 2) SRNC; and 3) A system without convolutional encoding nor interleaving. Simulation results in terms of block error rate for a 2-hop wireless transmission scenario over an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel were presented. Results showed that the system with interleaving and convolutional code achieved better performance with coding gain of at least 1.29 dB and 2.08 dB on average when the block error rate is 0.01 when compared with system II and system III respectively.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132174157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper provides the architecture design of a vehicular WiMAX-WLAN network proposed for surveillance implementations on railway environment. Mainly we focus on data transmission applications over V2I communications during fast handover procedure. For this reason we analyze the proposed IEEE 802.16e-802.11b/g/earchitecture for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure between two oncoming trains while moving in opposite directions with constant speeds during fast handover procedure. Finally, through OMNeT++simulator tool we evaluate the performance metrics of the vehicular wireless network simulation results based on handover performance.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"49 21","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113934105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such systems, the data bandwidth requirements keeps increasing as the number of processing elements increases. Therefore, a Network-on-Chip (NoCs) communication architecture use to be preferred than a communication based on shared buses, because it provides higher communication performance. The probability of failure increases in this systems, due to these great advances in integration scales and the increasing number of components on chip. Therefore Fault Tolerance will become a key aspect on designing the near future VLSI SoC, and especially on their interconnection Network on Chip (NoC). This paper focuses on describe the particular aspects of NoCs, and the proposed fault-tolerant strategies for NoCs.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122372692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From old, one complete unit heavy box TV or PC, we now have a compact, small-sized box called as set-top-box (STB) TV or notebook for TVs and PCs respectively. A STB TV package always comes with a dedicated remote control for interacting with STB TV package. In addition, PCs have also been used with mouse as controller. In these appliances, controller functions as means of user interaction to the appliances. The price of controller unit is expensive and contributes to significant total cost of an appliance whole package. Eliminating the necessity of buying dedicated controller will mean a significant price reduction. Meanwhile, current released smartphones model are mainly accelerometer and gyroscope built-in. Therefore, if we develop an algorithm in software-based application for smartphone, smartphone will replace dedicated controller to function just like universal remote control. We develop a client-server software application to enable our smartphone controlling TVs or PCs. Our software simulation uses smartphone-computer connection via wireless RF communication channel (Bluetooth); leveraging smartphone capability to function as a substitute of remote control. The economical price of consumer appliances like a STB TV package can be greatly reduced as remote control shipment is no longer necessary when customers have smartphone with our software installed. Upon successful deployment, we perceive in future that we will enable a new user experience of remote control in ubiquitous computing device when this remote control is able to store user channel preferences, interface to wider appliances or electronic computing devices, and as well as to access consumer appliances remotely.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122681412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decision tree induction such as C4.5 is the most preferred method for classification since it works well on average regardless of the data set being used. The resulting decision tree has explanation capability but problems arise if the data set has been collected at different times or is enlarging and the decision tree induction process has been repeated. The resulting tree will change and the expert is questioning the trustworthy of the result. That brings us to the problem of comparing two decision trees in accordance with its explanation power. In this paper, we present a method how to compare two decision trees and how to interpret the change of the structure and the attributes in the decision tree.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122993793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Multi-threaded Simulation of 4G Cellular Systems within the LTE-Sim Framework","authors":"Alessandro Pellegrini, G. In this context, multi-core/multi-processor simulation tools can accelerate their activities by drastically reducing the time required to simulate complex scenarios. Unfortunately, today's available tools are mostly single-threaded and they cannot exploit the performance gain offered by parallel programming approaches. To bridge this gap, we have significantly upgraded the LTE-Simframework by implementing a concurrent scheduling algorithm, namely the Multi-Master Scheduler, aimed at efficiently handling events in a parallel manner, while guaranteeing the correct execution of the simulation itself. Experimental results will demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposal and the performance gain that can be achieved with respect to other classical event scheduling algorithms.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128925860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Smart Lighting Solutions for Smart Cities","authors":"Miguel Castro, A. Jara, A. Gómez-Skarmeta","doi":"10.1109/WAINA.2013.254","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WAINA.2013.254","url":null,"abstract":"Smart cities play an increasingly important role for the sustainable economic development of a determined area. Smart cities are considered a key element for generating wealth, knowledge and diversity, both economically and socially. A Smart City is the engine to reach the sustainability of its infrastructure and facilitate the sustainable development of its industry, buildings and citizens. The first goal to reach that sustainability is reduce the energy consumption and the levels of greenhouse gases (GHG). For that purpose, it is required scalability, extensibility and integration of new resources in order to reach a higher awareness about the energy consumption, distribution and generation, which allows a suitable modeling which can enable new countermeasure and action plans to mitigate the current excessive power consumption effects. Smart Cities should offer efficient support for global communications and access to the services and information. It is required to enable a homogenous and seamless machine to machine (M2M) communication in the different solutions and use cases. This work presents how to reach an interoperable Smart Lighting solution over the emerging M2M protocols such as CoAP built over REST architecture. This follows up the guidelines defined by the IP for Smart Objects Alliance (IPSO Alliance) in order to implement and interoperable semantic level for the street lighting, and describes the integration of the communications and logic over the existing street lighting infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129208019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
