In the paper, we suggest and evaluate several different approaches and protocols for collecting the data using such ferries from isolated WSN sub networks for different scenarios. We present the results of the simulations that reveal the effects of the WSN density, ferry speed, node sleep policy and maximum hop limitation on the performance and required resources for the tested protocols.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129083278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on information from literature, strategies and measures for data quality improvements have been selected, applied and evaluated during the introduction and operation of a mobile CRM platform for a major Austrian bank. This platform was implemented five years ago and has been improved regularly since then to provide customers with services like information messages, automatic appointment reminders, and two-way communication via SMS (short message service) and e-mail messages between customers and their bank advisors. Our experiences with stand-alone methods and overall strategies during this case study provide insights into the specific problems and applicable solutions when dealing with mobile CRM systems and the corresponding data quality issues.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129194462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Combining this problem with an inefficient use of parking spaces leads to congestions due to aggregation of parking seekers and regular drivers. Recent advances in low-cost, low-power embedded systems bring the opportunity to develop new applications to solve these problems. In particular, Smart Cities greatly enrich their sustainability by introducing new resource management applications that rely in those constrained devices a significant part of the functionality of the system. The proposed Smart Parking solution consists mainly in the on-site deployment of an IoT solution to monitor and signalize the state of availability of each single parking space, as well as using context information generated by the city and its citizens to provide accurate responses to driver's demands. Furthermore, this system improves the management of parking resources by public authorities, for instance handling groups of parking spaces facilitating the whole city traffic management. The integration of this deployment into an existing live test-bed implies an easy task requiring just the data collection through the available means of the parking spaces availability. At the present time there exist living test-beds which can be used to integrate these new functionalities for experimentation on IoT data level, to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the M2M world, reducing costs, resources, pollution and time.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127353176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"TeraScaler ELB-an Algorithm of Prediction-Based Elastic Load Balancing Resource Management in Cloud Computing","authors":"He-Sheng Wu, Chong-Jun Wang, Junyuan Xie","doi":"10.1109/WAINA.2013.79","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WAINA.2013.79","url":null,"abstract":"Load balancing is the core of virtual resource management and scheduling in cloud computing. For network applications, the cost of user would be greatly saved if load balancer could dynamically adjust cluster resources in accordance with the current applied load. The current load balancing products of cloud, such as Amazon's ELB, can be used to manage virtual machines in the cloud. The main drawbacks are still only supporting template-based deployment of new virtual machines, not supporting the trend prediction, failing to gain resources dynamically, and not sufficiently providing the elastic management of resources. Since the virtual machine for load balancing management in cloud computing can be dynamically applied and released, an algorithm of prediction-based elastic load balancing resource management (TeraScaler ELB) is presented to overcome the drawbacks. Experiments have shown that the required number of virtual machines change in compliance with the change of network load, thus TeraScaler ELB is able to dynamically adjust the processing capacity of back-end server cluster with the applied load. Besides it could make full use of the 'use on demand' feature of cloud computing, TeraScaler ELB leads to a better application of prediction based load balancing in cloud computing. It concludes that compared with the traditional elastic resource management algorithm, TeraScaler ELB is more reasonable for providing scalability and high availability.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132416465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rapid, exponential growth of global data outpaces Moore's law improvements in computing and storage efficiency, creating a growing \"energy wall'' in coping with global data. We observe in this paper that this problem is significantly exacerbated by (needed) security mechanisms. We propose for more systematically designed energy-aware security mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116858975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several potential applications of Vehicular Networks aiming at integrating service discovery mechanisms and the latest Internet access technologies are envisioned. However, several challenging issues, such as gateway discovery among others, remain to be resolved before VANET technology becomes a commodity. Indeed, in this case, it is very essential to provide clients with gateway services that better suit their requests while balancing the load on the gateways, in order to reduce the gateways congestion problem. In this paper, we propose to evaluate the performance of a load balanced and introduce a new QoS gateway discovery protocol (Collaged) that permits the connection to heterogeneous wireless networks. The protocol guarantees balancing the load at the gateways levels, as well as the routing paths between gateways and gateway requesters. It also permits gateway requesters to choose and connect to the gateways that satisfy the QoS required by the vehicles. We present our protocol, and discuss its performance evaluation using an extensive set of simulation experiments. Our results indicate that significant improvement were achieved using QoSLAGAD protocol when compared to LAGAD while guaranteeing QoS and balancing the gateways' load.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117039779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Arelatively new form of research is trying to find a way to make all these co-located devices not only capable of detecting each other's presence, but to go one step further - to make them cooperate. One recently proposed way to tackle this problem is to engage into cooperation by activating 'network services'(such as internet sharing, interference avoidance, etc.) that offer benefits for other co-located networks. This approach reduces the problem to the following research topic: how to determine which network services would be beneficial for all the cooperating networks. In this paper we analyze and propose a conceptual solution for this problem using the reinforcement learning technique known as the Least Square Policy Iteration (LSPI). The proposes solution uses a self-learning entity that negotiates between different independent and co-located networks. First, the reasoning entity uses self-learning techniques to determine which service configuration should be used to optimize the network performance of each single network. Afterwards, this performance is used as a reference point and LSPI is used to deduce if cooperating with other co-located networks can lead to even further performance improvements.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131021517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bashar","doi":"10.1109/WAINA.2013.184","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/WAINA.2013.184","url":null,"abstract":"The recent emphasis on monitoring and managing telecommunication networks in more intelligent and autonomic manner has led to the emergence and popularity of Machine Learning based Network Management Systems. In order to study the behavior and assess the performance of such NMS, it is essential that a suitable modeling and evaluation framework exists. The work presented here addresses this need and proposes an autonomic NMS which employs the prediction capabilities of the Bayesian Networks (BN) models. To achieve this, it formulates and models the BN-based Decision Support System for providing real-time decisions with regard to the Call Admission Control (CAC) problem in the Next Generation Network (NGN) environment. Simulated experiments are performed to verify the suitability and practicality of the proposed models. The novelty and relevance of this research is demonstrated through offline modeling and online performance evaluation of BNAC (Bayesian Networks-based Admission Control) by considering the metrics of Packet Delay, Packet Loss, Queue Size and Blocking Probability. The paper concludes that BNAC approach performs better than the Peak Rate CAC in terms of online CAC functionality.","PeriodicalId":359251,"journal":{"name":"2013 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132357311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
