LQG is a popularly used linear optimal control technique in literature. However, the direct implementation of LQG with the use of the Kalman Filter as the optimal estimator is incapable of adapting to changes in the system parameters which results in a deviation from the expected optimal performance. EKF allows for the estimation of the system parameter values along with the unknown states of the system. The estimated values are used to constantly update the plant model and calculate the gains for optimal performance. The effectiveness of this technique on the DC motor position control system for various changes in system parameter values is studied in this paper and compared with the performance of a simple Kalman Filter to show the improvement in performance. The results show improvements in both step responses and tracking performances with the use of the EKF estimator along with the LQG controller.","PeriodicalId":356055,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Mechanical, System and Control Engineering (ICMSC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126144303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electrical parameters of solenoid will change considerably due to temperature variation, which will result in the change of input-output characteristics of solenoid and the deterioration of shifting quality. In order to realize a smooth shifting control under any temperature circumstance, the electrical, hydraulic and mechanical model of the solenoid are analyzed. The temperature influence on resistance and inductance of solenoid are provided and they can account for the variation of oil pressure and flow. Finally, a novel temperature compensation method for proportional solenoid applied to the automatic transmission system is developed. It can be implemented for embedded devices due to its low computational load. Experimental results are also provided to validate the model and the temperature compensation method.","PeriodicalId":356055,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Mechanical, System and Control Engineering (ICMSC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126379172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ankle-foot is made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) as a composite. The finite element analysis is used to evaluate the structural behavior of the ankle-foot, including the deformation, stress, strain energy, and first natural frequency. The heel-strike, midstance, and toe-off of the ankle-foot are analyzed with three different boundary conditions. The results indicated that the highest von Mises stresses is found on the shank at toe-off. The maximum energy strain of 0.304 mJ is recognized at the instep. The obtained values of stress are still much smaller than the yield strength of GFRP. The results also revealed that the prosthetic ankle-foot is becoming more flexible as due to the compliant ankle. At last, the prosthetic ankle-foot was proved as an effective device to support a human body up to 100 N.","PeriodicalId":356055,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Mechanical, System and Control Engineering (ICMSC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129383918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A modified proportional-integral-derivative (PID) based on observer method is used as a controller. Uncertainty is considered on thruster model, thrust level, and external disturbance parameters. Thruster is modeled with a constant delay followed by a second-order binomial transfer function. The modulator update frequency, the input to the on- off thruster, is limited to 50 Hz. Controller gains are tuned and optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm. The simulation results of the deterministic optimization show that the rise time is reduced and the overshoot is removed. Moreover, robust optimization is applied to this problem using a combination of deterministic optimization and Monte Carlo simulation. Next, the statistical properties of the results, such as expected value and variance are evaluated. These properties are used as the objective functions of the optimization problem, and the results are compared to each other. The variation of objective function in robust optimization is reduced, which means that the robustness under uncertainties is enhanced. Using quasi-normalized equations and merging the moment of inertia, thrust level and filter gain with other parameters, the results are more general and useful for other spacecraft with different characteristics.","PeriodicalId":356055,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Mechanical, System and Control Engineering (ICMSC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126459403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbon composite fabrics in combination with high performance epoxy resin were used to ensure the maximum stiifness of the part. In order to ünd the best option, an advanced CAE simulation based on the Finite Element Method was used with a special module designated directly for creating models from alternative materials. Zone-based and ply-based FE models were created to find the optimal layout of the individual plies of the laminate. Maximum stress failure criterion was used to evaluate the strength of the part. The paper suggests an innovative approach for casting defects detection using their classification for a futuristic automated optical inspection. This research proposes a novel technique that utilizes image segmentation to detect casting surface defects. The defects under scrutiny include cracks, blowholes and pinholes that are initially filtered to remove noise and clutter, subsequently the target image is segmented using K-Means partitioning.
