We show that by using the Dirichlet transformation, it is possible to derive a relatively simple expression for the moment generating function of the GSC signal-to-noise ratio output and to consequently develop a well-structured procedure for obtaining the average error rate in a form suitable for numerical evaluation. Numerical examples for several modulations of interest show that, for a fixed number of available diversity paths, the more severe is the fading the more diminishing are the returns obtained for an increasing number of combined paths. These numerical results also show that a significant performance improvement can be gained by increasing the number of available diversity paths for a fixed number of combined paths, especially for channels subject to low amount of fading.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. The proposed scheme has a structure that utilizes the searching window which has the same size as the tap length of the matched filter. This system performs parallel correlation in each chip interval to improve the mean acquisition time (MAT). To reduce hardware complexity, it sorts out several maximum data instead of using all accumulated data and utilizes indexing for efficient data handling. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed in a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel with frequency offset. Especially, we present results for the optimal number of data in using the sorting method, the number of coherent accumulations and the number of noncoherent integrations. This type of error control is used to detect errors, asking for a retransmission when errors are detected. It is seen that single ARQ schemes are not suitable for mobile environments, making it necessary to consider other techniques for equalization in order to cope with ISI (intersymbol interference). Using an equalizer does not improve significantly the performance, so hybrid-ARQ (H-ARQ) schemes must be evaluated. For the CDMA system a new parallel interference cancellation (PIC) receiver with an adaptive decision threshold is proposed which is complete with the method to adjust the decision threshold. The decision threshold for partial cancellation is adjusted according to the statistics of its matched filter (MF) outputs. The BER of the proposed PIC receiver is obtained by simulation and compared with those of the conventional PIC and other PIC receivers in a Rayleigh fading channel. This paper analyzes the different bottlenecks of the GPRS system for three typical data traffic in severe input load conditions. Delay profiles measured in metropolitan Tokyo at a microwave frequency were used to obtain radio channel impulse responses, and the characteristic function method was used to efficiently estimate transmission performance under the assumption that the impulse responses have uniform distribution phases. The measurements are used to determine the ranging error experienced by a TOA detector due to the multipath radio channel. The performance of a simple threshold detector and an enhanced least-squares detector is investigated. The relationship between ranging error and position error is illustrated using a dilution of precision calculation.
