The proposed scheme estimates the target acceleration input vector directly from the feature of maneuvering target trajectories and updates the simple Kalman tracker by the acceleration estimates. The proposed acceleration estimator provides better maneuver-following capability than an input estimator which uses residues of the Kalman filter. In this paper, we evaluate performance of some dynamic channel assignment methods in cellular systems using beam tilting and an adaptive array at base stations. The evaluated dynamic channel assignment methods are channel segregation, ARP (autonomous reuse partitioning), SORP (self-organized reuse partitioning) and a current method in PHS (CMP). We evaluate the performance according to the number of wireline circuits at a base station. Computer simulation results show that beam tilting and adaptive array improve interference rate performance regardless of the number of wireline circuits at a base station, and improve blocking rate performance in the case where a base station has many wireline circuits.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. With smaller cell size, the frequency of hand-off events will increase. This will in turn increase the overheads for processing hand-off events. To reduce the overheads due to frequent hand-off, a cell-cluster concept has been proposed previously. In this paper, we considered cluster-based micro/picocellular wireless networks with new call queueing. Two selection policies, namely, random and maximum-free-channels policies, were proposed for selection of queued new calls. The selection policy is part of the call admission policy. The performance of the selection policies were studied by extensive simulations. Our results show that the maximum-free-channels policy has significantly better performance (in terms of hand-off dropping probability) than the random policy when the average number of occupied channels in a cluster is greater than the admission threshold.","PeriodicalId":355729,"journal":{"name":"Gateway to 21st Century Communications Village. In the first part of the paper we address the implications of optimizing the transport control protocol (TCP) on the security services provided by the IPSec protocol suite. We provide a set of rules for optimizing TCP without interfering with IPsec. In the second part of the paper, we address IP multicast security issues. In order to meet the increasing demand in capacity and achieve multirate services in the 3G wireless communication systems, wideband code division mltiple access (CDMA) has emerged as the main candidate under consideration. However, because of its inherent multiple access interference, the performance of CDMA can be severely degraded as the number of subscribers increases. Multiuser detection is a scheme which jointly detects all users' signals and by doing so can offer significant system performance improvement. This paper investigates and analyzes the performance of multiuser successive interference cancellation in a coded wideband DS/CDMA communication system. Specifically, a new multistage interference cancellation method is presented which employs a combined coding, successive interference cancellation and random interleaving. The goal is to achieve a carrier frequency estimate with an error smaller than 1% of the subcarrier spacing and a timing estimate that avoids ISI in the receiver. Three joint coarse timing and fine frequency estimation algorithms are compared, where the results for the simplest one are similar to the ones for the others with more hardware complexity. The best results for coarse carrier frequency offset are obtained with a data-aided (DA) scheme using the fixed pilot tones. A new method is derived for fine timing estimation for one-path channels. In this paper, we propose a modified adaptive hybrid FEC/ARQ scheme using turbo codes with incremental redundancy. If retransmission is requested, information bits with magnitude of log-likelihood values smaller than the threshold are retransmitted together with the extra parities. In the iterative decoding of packets with extra parities, the decoder is designed to utilize the soft outputs generated from the previous decoding process. It is known that when the IFA height from a conducting ground plane is approximately one-tenth of the wavelength, the frequency bandwidth for a VSWR=2 criterion is approximately 8%. Nakano et al. (1998) proposed two L-figured parasitic elements added to the IFA to widen the VSWR bandwidth. It should be a large value for handset systems if this criterion is applied to structures working at lower frequencies (450 MHz) such as TETRA. A design of IFA is presented with different lengths for parasitic elements to generate two resonance frequencies near the central frequency of design. Antenna characteristics; mounted on the handset, are calculated using the method of moments (MoM) with wire grid models using numerical electromagnetic code NEC2. In this class of wireless system the physical resource at premium is energy. Bandwidth available to the system is in excess of system requirements. The approach to solve the problem of ad-hoc network formation here is to use available bandwidth in order to save energy. The method introduced solves the problem of connecting an ad-hoc network. This algorithm gives procedures for the joint formation of a time schedule (similar to a TDMA schedule) and activation of links therein for random network topologies.
