Youth unemployment in Nigeria constitutes a security challenge and can endanger socio-economic development. This paper examines youths’ entrepreneurial development as a panacea for overcoming security challenges and unemployment in Nigeria. The study was carried out using the survey design. Both primary and secondary data were utilized for the study. The descriptive statistics of simple percentages, frequencies, tables, means, and standard deviation were employed to analyze the data, while inferential statistics of z-test was used to test the hypotheses. The findings of this study revealed that causes of security challenges in Nigeria are unemployment, lack of good governance, corrupt practices of government officials, lack of quality education, lack of basic infrastructure facilities, poverty and marginalization of the youth. The researchers recommended that entrepreneurial education through training and skill acquisition could be a means through which the government may curtail security and unemployment situation in Nigeria. The most effective way for these youth to become catalysts for change and economic growth is through entrepreneurship. This research implies that no meaningful development would be achieved without first dealing with unemployment situation in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130610084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, this study investigated how an electronic health information system can improve medical records management in Nigeria’s public healthcare institutions. The study employed the numerical and qualitative research philosophy, adopted the survey and case study research strategies, the cross-sectional and qualitative research designs. The study sample covered 332 respondents spread across four selected Federal Medical Centres in Makurdi, Keffi, Lokoja and Abuja FCT, all located in the North Central Region of Nigeria. In the collection of primary data, the researcher took cognisance of ethnic consideration regarding the confidentiality of data and protection of respondents’ trust. The study used the simple frequency percentage table to analyse collected data. The finding revealed that, though there is still heavy reliance on traditional paper-based records system, however, adoption of eHIS will reduce risk of treatment errors, decrease patient waiting time, enhance timely communication among practitioners, protects patient information from unauthorised personnel and enhance healthcare service delivery. The study, therefore, recommended that the government and hospital management should prioritise the provision of necessary infrastructure in the health capital budget to support adoption and implementation of the electronic health information system and electronic medical records management to reduce high mortality rates from delayed treatments and preventable medical errors.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115226231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Relevant literature on entrepreneurship education and youth empowerment were reviewed. The human capital theory formed the theoretical framework while the cross-sectional research design was adopted for the study. The sample size for this research was 400. Simple percentage was used in analyzing the research questions while the Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) method was used in testing the hypotheses. The study revealed that skill acquisition has a significant effect on youth empowerment. Innovation and Opportunity recognition significantly influence youth empowerment. The study concluded that entrepreneurship education creates employment among the youth thereby boosting their self-teem. Skills are acquired in recognizing business opportunities and inculcating innovative culture, which contribute to the development of the economy. The study recommended that the government should provide enough training facilities where skill acquisition programmes will be held. The youth should be granted credit facilities and loans to enable them put their creative ideas into practice.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"os-31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127776812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Treasury Single Account (TSA) came as a quick fix to regulating the level of accountability and transparency in the financial resources of the government of the country. Treasury Single Account (TSA) is a unified structure of government bank accounts enabling consolidation and optimal utilization of government cash resources. Through this bank account or set of linked bank accounts, the government transacts all its receipts and payments and gets a consolidated view of its cash position at any given time. However, this paper theoretically examined Treasury Single Account in Nigeria with a view to providing the way forward for the country. In this paper, we proposed that government should engage in massive public enlightenment about the importance of the policy at all levels. Also, government should adhere to the provisions of Section 162(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) for the maintenance of Federation accounts and avoid using private contractors (SystemSpecs-Remita). Though Section 162(1) has made provisions for maintenance of Federation accounts, the legislature should look inwards and address the operational details. Furthermore, government should overhaul the capacity of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the CBN to cope with challenges associated with enforcement of the provisions of the TSA.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121907602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This could be the main reason Africa is still backward technologically. This paper attempts to examine the concept of technical education as a key to industrialization in Africa, the importance and role of technical education in African industrial advancement, and the challenges facing technical education in Africa. The paper has concluded that technical education takes the lead for industrialization in Africa because through it, youths and adults will be equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge needed for economic growth and development.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128527279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The population of the study was one thousand four hundred and twelve (1,412) registered members of cooperative organizations resident in tertiary institutions in Kaduna State. Using Taro Yamane’s formula with allowable error e =0.05, a sample size of three hundred and twelve (312) was used. This sample was distributed equally (at fifty-two each) among the six cooperative organizations that were selected one from each of the six tertiary institutions; the six tertiary institutions were judgmentally selected two from each senatorial zone in the State. A 5point Likert-scale measure was used. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage, mean Likert-scale) and inferential statistics (Spearman rho test). The results of the study revealed as follows: The only significant social responsibility activity carried out by cooperative organizations resident in tertiary institutions in the State was to help their host communities in providing physical infrastructural facilities (x = 3.02). Thus, the cooperative organizations have not met their social responsibilities to their host communities (P-value = 2.781; r-cal = 1.517). However, the little they have been able to do has had a positive and significant effect (P-value = 0.752; r-cal = 3.439). There are many challenges impeding the provision of social responsibility activities by these cooperative organizations; the major challenges include lack of fund, poor relationship with host communities, and hostile attitude of the host communities. The study therefore recommended that cooperative organizations in tertiary institutions in Kaduna State should strive to imbibe the culture of concern for host community as a cardinal cooperative principle.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115858489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the National Policy on Education in Nigeria, government to a great extent see Business Education and entrepreneurship as a crucial vehicle that drive the nation towards future economic growth. A key factor for future innovativeness and growth in society is the supply of competent individuals that are motivated, especially among Business Education students to become entrepreneurs inside and outside of established organizations. A total of 350 of 791 students in the population were selected through simple random sampling from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Federal College (Special) Oyo, and The College of Education, Lanlate, Oyo State. Questionnaire was the instrument used for the data collection. Mean score, standard deviation and t-test were used for data analysis. The results indicated that Business Education mentoring was rated ‘well taught’ while entrepreneurship education was rated Poorly taught. The results of the test of null hypothesis suggested a significant difference in the mean rating of respondents. It was concluded that Business Education students rate Business Education mentoring and entrepreneurship skills Poorly taught as they as contained in the curriculum.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130172110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most African countries however, the drive towards industrialisation has largely been inchoate, and driven by rhetoric without commensurate proactive actions. Given the evidence of woeful state of industrialisation in Africa, the often trumpeted industrial policies do not seem propitious for the promotion of industrial activities. The paper rejects the official platitudes that have been mouthed by policy makers as based on a faulty premise. The paper appreciates the stumbling blocks and dilemmas that African countries face as global latecomers to contemporary industrialisation, but calls for a paradigm shift in policy, a comprehensive redesigning of industrial policies, emplacement of pragmatic enablers and systematic implementation of these policies, that will provide new options and route to industrialisation.","PeriodicalId":355698,"journal":{"name":"UNIZIK JOURNAL OF BUSINESS","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127078099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
