Brief intervention training for healthcare providers in treating tobacco use and dependence has been well established in the literature. Undergraduate nursing students’ may be at an optimal time in their career to undergo training on appropriate tobacco cessation teaching methods. The purpose of this project was to assess the outcomes of tobacco brief intervention training for undergraduate nursing students. Outcomes include knowledge of tobacco use health and economic impact and use of brief intervention for tobacco use by undergraduate students. This study demonstrates that brief intervention training may reasonably be administered during traditional nursing school curriculum. Further studies are warranted to evaluate if this training has any impact on quality of patient instruction during patient interactions.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125800146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The organisms included in the study were 33isolates of 11 different bacterial species. The results showed that most of the Gram-positive isolates from the 3species included in the study: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus and Enterococcus fecal is were inhibited at low concentrations of pyocyanin. The results varied for the Gram-negative organisms tested. Whereas the growth of the Escherichia coli , Citrobacter koseri, Enterobacter cloacae and A. baumannii isolates was clearly inhibited even by low concentrations of pyocyanin, the growth of Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus mirabilis and Morganella morganii was not affected even by higher concentrations of pyocyanin. The methanol extract of the pigment was highly effective in preventing the biofilm forming ability of all S. saprophyticus , A. baumannii , E. cloacae and K. pneumoniae isolates, 3 of the 4 P. mirabilis isolates and 2 of the 5 E. coli isolates. All the other isolates tested, also showed a moderate antibiofilm activity This study revealed that pyocyanin has a powerful inhibitory effect on the bacterial growth and/or biofilm forming ability of the numerous clinically significant isolates tested, a characteristic that can prove valuable in developing new drugs for the treatment and prevention of different bacterial infections, once its safety for regular use has been assessed.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125991899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also milk contains a few pigment, enzymes, vitamins, phospholipids and gas. A team showed a close relation between graziery feed composition, milk products quality and community health level. Although, statistical analysis in some references showed different correlations between milk parameters and consumed feed composition in grazieries. Currently, scientists are working hard on cow breeding programs to produce milk products having high values. The present work is concerned into adjusting the breeding program by defining the possible correlations between the repeatability of basic milk constituents. Different composite samples of herd milk have been collected in three periods [April-October, 2009] each month over an extended period of time. Twelve cows completed 27 scheduled sample days and five completed the first 18 days. Atmospheric records were gathered over 24-hr. during milk production. Some statistical components were estimated as the repeatability, variance due to days, and variance due to periods and the Chi-square was implemented to evaluate the differences between correlation coefficients. Low coefficients of variation have referred to the independent correlations among the variables in the breeding program.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"542 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121993315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the chronic nature of diabetes, selfcare management is key to improving patient outcomes and reducing the burden on the healthcare system. Self-monitoring of blood glucose is integral to self-care management of diabetes. Blood glucose monitoring is a shared responsibility, and constant communication between the patient and provider is vital in the daily management of diabetes, including diet, exercise, medications, and monitoring of blood glucose levels. When the patient does not have insurance coverage, frequent clinic visits for blood glucose monitoring and medication adjustments may become unaffordable, causing patients to remain undertreated or untreated for long periods of time. In such instances, a web-based log of daily glucose levels that is shared between the patient and the clinician may reduce the need for frequent clinic visits resulting in lower costs and more accessible care for low income or uninsured patients. In this project, 30 Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients maintained a shared web-based log on Diabetes 24/7, which was also accessible to the investigator, for one month. The investigator monitored their blood glucose levels daily and provided feedback to the patients as needed based on the reported levels. Analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test indicated that the data was significant at p<0.0001 (study calculated p<0.00008), indicating the effectiveness of a shared web-based blood glucose log in the daily management of diabetes.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121361722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes how the concept of flipped learning, the role of the lecturer and practices around assessments are used in large and diverse online student cohorts. This paper presents the experience of academics from Nursing, Information Technology and Sports Science use of flipped classroom strategy and their designed flipped approaches for their units of teaching and student cohorts. The lessons learntarereported of the flipped learning innovations from a multidisciplinary, science-focused, scholarly community of practice referred to as ‘iScholar’ in a regional Australian university. For the academics, sharing experiences in practice allowed appraisal of the differing flips and flops of the blended learning platform. Additionally, they were able to explore the role of the lecturer in these blended learning modes and evaluate learning experiences of different student cohorts. The lecturers embraced the challenges of technology and focused on the needs of their differing student cohorts; further, reflected on their practice and shared the experiences with the extended academic community in the University. Preparation of students for these innovative learning modes wasidentified as a crucial step in flipped classroom strategies. The lecturers were explicit about the learning outcomesandthe activities expected of the students, which supported the successful implementation of flipped classrooms. Student perceptions and attitudes towards the flippedmodel of learning changed with improved engagement in learning activities.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133963462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
