Expression of telomerase occurs in germ cells and stem cells but not in normal (somatic) cells. However, in many tumors, telomerase is activated, which is one of the immortalization steps. In humans, telomerase expression is regulated by a telomerase subunit called hTERT. The promoter region of the gene that encodes hTERT is located in a CpG island and was shown to be regulated, at least in part, by DNA methylation. In this study, we have analyzed the methylation status of the hTERT gene in primary squamous cell carcinomas, SCC-1 and SCC-2, and HPV+ cervical tissue scrapes, moderate dyskaryosis and mild dyskaryosis. By using the bisulfite genomic sequencing assay, the region between +90 bp and +566 bp within the gene was analyzed. We found that the primary squamous cell carcinoma SCC-1, which consists of 70% carcinoma cells, was more methylated than SCC-2, which consisted of 40% carcinoma cells. However, the number of methylated CpGs in cervical scrapes classified as moderate dyskaryosis and mild dyskaryosis were higher than in SCC-2. In the present study, we demonstrated the importance of DNA methylation profile at hTERT promoter site as a promising biomarker for cervical cancer. Further, it also provides a possible mechanism into the epigenetic regulation of hTERT in various other cancer developments.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126055531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various CT parameters like the infundibular, osteomeatal, sphenoethmoid and sino-nasal polyposis types were studied in a total of 30 patients i.e. 60 sides by using standard protocol. The study was done over a period of one year in a tertiary care hospital. The infundibular pattern was the commonest with a prevalence of 25%. Various authors in different regions of the world have studied similar patterns and it can be concluded that there is a wide inter and intra regional variation. This also helps us to understand that sino-nasal disease affliction is limited by race and region and hence, a clear cut pattern of prevalence of various parameters is not possible. Hence, this also stresses on the additional use of CT scan in assessing the pattern of pathology in order to achieve better disease clearance thus avoiding morbidity associated with recurrence.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133453994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be either unilateral or bilateral. Nasal polyposis and inverted papilloma are two differential diagnosis of unilateral nasal obstruction. Both of these are different in terms of clinical features and appearance. A condition of co-existence of both these pathologies in a single nasal cavity is a rare finding. Moreover, radiological assessment often fails to determine the presence of both these pathologies due to the similar appearance on Computed Tomography. Hence a high index of suspicion and complete clearance of the disease with a histopathological confirmation is of paramount importance to avoid disease related morbidity and mortality.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124033499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This urges the operating surgeon to tailor make the proposed endoscopic sinus surgery to every patient, in order to avoid inadvertent injuries and sequelae formation. The key areas being the anterior ethmoid which is the most susceptible for infection of the anterior group of sinuses and the sphenoethmoid recess for the posterior group of sinuses. Identification of these anatomical variations is the key for optimal disease clearance thus preventing morbidity associated with recurrence.","PeriodicalId":355232,"journal":{"name":"Madridge Journal of Case Reports and Studies","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127285979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
