Aim was to evaluate enhancement of applicability of rock phosphate by addition of compost and inoculation with phosphate dissolving bacteria and its effect on quality and productivity of canola plant. The experiment included 3 factors as follows: (1) three rates of rock phosphate i.e. 0 (RP0), 250 kg ha -1 (RP1) and 500 kg ha -1 (RP2, (2) two treatments of compost: without application C0 and 24 Mg ha -1 (C1) and (3) two P-dissolving bacteria (PDB): none (PDB0) and inoculation (PDB1). The highest values of plant growth characters, yield and its component, seed quality, nutrient content and their uptake of canola plant were obtained under treatment of RP2 + C1 + PDB1. It could be concluded that, the combined use of rock phosphate at rate of 500 kg ha -1 and compost manure at rate of 24 Mg ha -1 plus seed inoculation with PDB was more economical due to reduce and costs of the used fertilizers with access to results would be an appropriate substitute for chemical phosphorous fertilizer in sustainable agriculture system.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"711 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124240779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Application of compost significantly increased pods and grain yield, shelling percentage and 100 grain weight of peanut as compared to control. The increases were 29.6 and 35.4 % for pod and 35.5 and 41.40 % for grain due applications of 12.5 and 25 Mg ha -1 compost. Application any of the two gypsum rates increased pods, grain yield, shelling percentage and 100 seed weight with non-significant difference between two rates. Addition any of the two rates of compost significantly increased N, K, Fe, Zn and Mn contents of straw and seed. Two rates of gypsum also increased the same nutrient with non-significant difference between two rates. This research was conducted to use metal uptake and spectroscopic analysis (X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive spectroscopy by X-rays (EDX) and Fourier Transmission Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to evaluate the effect of application of both rice straw biochar and compost with different ratios on heavy metal immobilization in the canola plants grown in the contaminated soil. The results showed that the Cd, Pb, Ni and Zn uptake in the root and shoot of canola plants significantly decreased with the addition of rice straw compost (RC) and biochar (RB) to contaminated soil. The addition of 1% mixture of RC and RB gives the most effective immobilizing metals as 100% and 74.2%, reduction in Cd and Pb accumulation by canola shoots, respectively. The biochar and compost obtained from rice straw showed high carbon content, silica and a high absorption character. The use of spectroscopic analysis observed the precipitation, inner-sphere complex reaction and electrostatic attraction are the dominating mechanism for heavy metal immobilization with organic amendments. Our results indicate that the metal uptake is considered to be the effective tool to assess the efficiency of immobilizing agents on metal phyto-availability.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114725664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various treatments of planting dates, irrigation and fertilization were applied during two successive growing seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 in a split split plot design replicated three times. The calibration of APSIM-Wheat and AQUACROP was done for Misr3 cultivar using genetic parameters based on observed field data. Both models simulated anthesis, maturity dates, grain yield and total biomass accurately, with high values of determination coefficient (R), and D-index greater than 0.8 as well as lower values of root mean square deviation (RMSD) in most cases. The calibrated models were then employed to explore wheat yield and water productivity in response to irrigation and nitrogen fertilization options. Scenarios analysis indicated that water productivity and yield of wheat ranged from (1.2-2.0 kg m) and (6.8-8.7 t ha) respectively. Application of 0.8 from actual evapotranspiration along with 120 % from recommended nitrogen dose was the best predicted scenario achieving the highest value of crop water productivity. Investigating the suitable option achieving the current wheat yield by farmers (7.4 t ha), models demonstrated that application of 1.4 from actual evapotranspiration with 80 % from the recommended nitrogen dose was the best option to achieve this yield. At this point predicted water productivity was low and recorded 1.5 kg m. Quantifying wheat yield in all districts of the studied area was also predicted using both models. APSIMWheat and AQUACROP can be used to drive the best management strategies in terms of N-fertilizer and water regime for wheat under Egyptian conditions.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"18 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121278515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different chemical methods and amendments are used to reclaim the salt affected soils, and after reclamation such soils may be used for sustainable agricultural production. Choice of a chemical amendment depends on its availability, cost, handling and time of application. A field experiment was conducted for two successive winter seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 at Sahl El-Hossinia Agric. Res. Station, El-Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, to evaluate two tillage methods (surface and subsurface) and three soil amendments (elemental sulphur \"S\", gypsum \"Gy\", compost \"Co\", compost + sulphur, compost + gypsum, gypsum + sulphur and compost + sulphur + gypsum) on some soil properties and wheat yield. The studied treatments were arranged within the experimental units in a split plot design in three replicates. Statistical analysis of grains and straw yield data showed that all the added amendments significantly increased the grains and straw yield of wheat compared with control. The addition of Gy+Co+S was the most effective addition in increasing the grains and straw yield in surface and subsurface tillage. Also, it is clear that grains and straw yields of wheat in the treatments of subsurface tillage were slightly higher than those in the treatments of surface tillage. Data showed that all applications of soil amendments under different tillage methods decreased soil pH and EC, but there is an increase in the values of organic matter and cation exchange capacity. This effect is more obvious in case of applying Gy+Co+S. Subsurface tillage associated by high values of O.M (%) and CEC (c.mole) than surface tillage. Soil OM (%) and CEC (c.mol/kg) were significantly increased as a result of added amendments. Data showed that values of total dry stable aggregates (DSA) and water stable aggregates (WSA) were increased in all treatments under study compared to control. The highest increase in values of total stable aggregates (DSA and WSA) was observed in the treatment of Gy+Co+S with subsurface tillage method compared to the treatments of surface tillage method and control. The highest values of hydraulic conductivity, total porosity, field capacity and available water were found by applying Gy+Co+S treatment in subsurface tillage method compared to control and other treatments of surface and subsurface tillage. The values of soil bulk density at different soil depths of all treatments were relatively low and the maximum decrease exists in case of the treatment Gy+Co+S with subsurface tillage method compared to other treatments and control. Generally, it can be concluded that gypsum, sulphur and compost application had decreased the hazardous effect of salinity of soil and hence exerted favorable effects on growth and yield of wheat. The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationships between special variability of soil properties and rice yield (Oryza sativa). The area under study is 41.67 ha in EL-Gemmieza Agriculture Research Station, of the Agric. Rese. Center (ARC), El Gharbiah Governorate, Egypt (Middle of Nile Delta). The studied location divided into two sites varied in their productivity of rice. Soil pH was found slightly alkaline at site (1) and alkaline at site (2). The EC and CEC in site (1) were higher than at site (2). On contrary values of ESP were higher at site (2) than at site 1. Higher exchangeable cations were observed under site (1) than site (2) except of exchangeable -Na showed a contrary behavior. Data also showed that values of soil bulk density were lower under site 1 than site (2) whereas; total porosity, hydraulic conductivity and infiltration rate were higher in site (1) than site (2). Higher values of grain yield, straw yield, harvest index and NPK content and uptake in grain and straw were found in site (1) than in site (2). The values of variation coefficients (CV) of the most studied traits showed low variability (< 20). At site 1 there is a significant correlation at 5% level with positive trends between grain yield and the traits of CEC, soluble K, exchangeable Ca, Mg, available N and K, total porosity and hydraulic conductivity. While, negative significant correlations at 5% level with negative trends were noticed between exchangeable Na and bulk density. On the other hand, result of satirical analysis of site 2 indicated a positive and significant correlations between grain yield of rice plant and all the traits of harvest index, N and K uptake in straw, CEC, O.M, exchangeable Ca& K, available N & available -P, total porosity and hydraulic conductivity. As the results of the stepwise regression analysis of site (1), it can arrange the soil physical characteristics, as their effective on rice yield, in the following order of: infiltration rate > soil total porosity > saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat). While the order of soil chemical characteristics were: ESP > pH > EC > O.M. As for soil available nutrients, their continuation factors were 90.7, and 7.0 % for soil available–K & available– N, respectively. For site (2) it can arrange the soil physical characteristics, as their effective on rice yield, in the following order of: bulk density > saturated hydraulic conductivity. While the order of soil chemical characteristics was: ESP > pH > CEC > O.M. As for soil available nutrients, their continuation factors were 91.1 and 5.6 % for soil available–K, and P, respectively.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114961824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The area is characterized by two main physiographic units namely Lacustrine plains and Windblown sand. The obtained results indicated that: I. Soils of lacustrine plains appeared that: 1-Grain size parameters as follows:  The fine silt was the predominant constituent of median (Md) as average size.  Graphic mean (Mz), generally, differed from fine to medium and coarse silt.  Measure of uniformity appeared very poorly sorted values (σ1) which indicated that the sediments are transported and deposited by water.  Measure of symmetry cleared that, the sediments have values of strongly coarse skewed (SKI). These values indicate that, the examined sediments have a tail of coarse grains.  Measure of peakedness showed that, the distribution of grains between platy & very platykurtic and lepto & very leptokurtic. 2The depositional environments of lacustrine plain soils were fluvial or deltaic. 3The hydrodynamic conditions, in general, were pelagic suspension (T).
