Both areas belong to El-Santa District (about 13 km to Tanta, Gharbia Governorate, Egypt). This work was conducted in clay loam soils to study the feasibility of installing tile drainage at farm level and using fresh and mixed water (fresh and drainage water i.e.1:1) on some soil properties, wheat and maize productivity. Moreover, the obtained field data were used to evaluate the field drains through comparing the calculated drain spacing using Hooghoud equation with the actual drain spacing. Both areas have a covered drainage system. The laterals were constructed at 1.2 m depth and 30 m drain spacing with a length varies from 250-275 m. Five feddans in each area were selected to carry out this study. Moreover, nontiled drained areas were selected in both two areas as control areas. The results of irrigation water analysis revealed that generally, both fresh and mixed water applied in this study could be used safely according to the standard guidelines of FAO (1994) which means that, using such mixed water safely can save about 50% of fresh water needed for crop water requirements. Also the results proved that, at Mahallet Rooh area where fresh irrigation water is used, the soil salinity reduced by about 30.7% as compared with the initial value in the area not provided with tile drainage, but the reduction in soil salinity was about 58.9% in the area provided with tile drainage system. The total amounts of leached salts from the top 60 cm of soil were 1850.4 and 2051.8 kg/fed for nontiled and tiled areas of Mahllet Rooh area, respectively. Concerning Saft Torab area, where mixed water is used for irrigation, these amounts were 1222.1 and 1965.2 kg/fed for the top 60 cm of soil, respectively. The obtained results confirmed that, the tiled areas at Mahallet Rooh, where fresh irrigation water is applied, showed a relatively higher values of quickly drainable pores (QDP), slowly drainable pores (SDP) and consequently, the total drainable pores (TDP) as compared with that of Saft Torab area where mixed water is used for irrigation. On contrary, the water holding pores (I.e. fine and coarse capillary pores values) were relatively higher as compared with that of Mahallet Rooh area. The non-tiled areas in both Mahallet Rooh and Saft Torab showed almost the same values of pore size distribution components, but the fine capillary pores value (FCP) was slightly higher for Saft Torab as compared with that obtained for Mahallet Rooh area. The results showed that soil bulk density values were lower in areas provided with tile drainage either in Mahallet Rooh or Saft Torab area resulting higher total porosity values as compared with that not provided with tile drainage. The results indicate that water table levels during winter season were much deeper than that observed in summer season in both areas under this study. A field experiment was conducted in the sandy soil during winter season of 2015/2016 at experimental farm, ARC, Ismaillia Governorate, Egypt to study the effect of biological (microbial additives), organic (compost tea) fertilization and their combination on rhizosphere properties, growth and productivity of wheat crop under different levels of mineral nitrogen fertilizer. The microbial additive was applied as consortium of Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Azorhizobium caulinodans and Paenibacillus polymyxa, which cultured on commercial medium. Compost tea was used as organic fertilizer while nitrogen levels were applied at a rate of 50, 75 or 100 kg N /fed. The experimental treatments were planned in a one way randomized complete block design with three replicates. The obtained data showed that the rhizosphere activity of wheat plants was enhanced due to the addition of microbial additives in combined with compost tea and high dose of nitrogen fertilizer. Wheat plants exhibited significant responses to studied treatments with respect to vegetative growth, total nutrients content, wheat yield and yield attributes. The application of combination of microbial additives and compost tea with 75 kg N/fed revealed optimum treatment in terms of vegetative growth, total nutrients content, wheat yield and yield components.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133677869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted to monitor the salinity distribution in soil under different well water quality and irrigation methods in specific sites of Ismailia Governorate region. Water and soil samples were collected from hundred randomly selected sites. Both soil and water samples were analyzed for chemical characteristic which included salinity, cations, anions and SAR. The findings indicated that the mean soil pH was 7.35 while the mean EC value was 3.73 dS/m. The mean cations in the water samples were 7.43, 5.98, 0.17, and 23.33 meq/l for Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and Na+, respectively and the a mean value of Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) was 9.11. The mean bicarbonates concentration detected in the irrigation water was 4.43 meq/l, while the mean chloride and sulphate were 29.95 and 2.49meq/l, respectively. The mean values of EC of soil were 3.94, 5.98 and 4.56 for drip, sprinkler and surface irrigation methods in depth 0-20 cm, respectively. While, in soil depth 20-40 cm the mean values of EC were 6.78, 4.94 and 2.99 for drip, sprinkler and surface irrigation methods, respectively. The spatial distribution of soil salinity in the soil horizons were found to be higher at shallow depths of 0-20cm and decreasing gradually up to a depth of 20-40cm. This trend is clear with surface and sprinkler irrigation method. In drip irrigated method, the salinity distribution showed a different pattern from that observed in surface and sprinkler irrigation. Salinity was the lowest in the surface layer (0-20 cm), and increased gradually with soil depth (20-40 cm). Salt concentration factor (SCF) of Ismailia soil under studies ranged between0.14 to 6.33. The results showed that SCF varies according to water and soil quality and irrigation methods.EC of soil was positively and significantly correlated with Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+ , RK P+, PClPPR, RHCO PPR3 Rbut positively and not significantly correlated with pH andSO P2-PR4R.The general trend showed that soil salinity increased with an increase in water salinity. Excessive applications of fertilizers to field and vegetable crops lead to nitrate and phosphate contamination of groundwater and irrigation canals. In certain situations, nitrates exceed the dangerous level of 10 mg N/L. Industrial effluents, released without any treatment to sewage drains, contain potentially toxic elements with a concentrations that are several fold higher than those in domestic sewage water and exceed the maximum permissible limits for their disposal onto agricultural lands. The mean concentrations of Pb, Co, Cd and Ni in sewage water were, respectively 21,133, 700, and 2200 times higher than those in artesian water. The applied treatments of the studied potassium were foliar and soil application, with special reference to the control treatment (an initial nutritional status). The potassium compounds were sprayed with 1 kg/400 liter fed-1 applied among three times, after 35, 50 and 75 days from planting. The data obtained reveal that sweet pepper yields and their quality showed a superior effect for foliar spray compared to soil application. The potassium humate and citrate recorded the superior increases in both macromicro nutrient content in sweet pepper fruit and vegetative parts with more availability in soil under investigation. It is evident that the applied potassium humate achieved many of the beneficial effects on soil hydro physical and fertility status as well as plant parameters, since K-humate acted like plant growth hormones and partially capable to retain water and nutrients for growing plants due to containing humic acid, which would act as complexing agent, thus minimizing the loss of nutrients by leaching. These chelating agents, through phenolic and carboxylic active groups for micronutrients and water molecules, are considered as a storehouse with easily or available to be taken by plant roots, and this reflected positively on development of yield and its attributes for studying sweet pepper crop. From aforementioned results, it can be concluded that the application of potassium either in organo or activator sources specially potassium humate under both foliar spray and soil application increased sweet pepper crop yields and their quality as well as improved the nutritional status of both plants, fruit, with relatively higher ability for increasing availability macromicronutrients in soil under soil application than foliar one.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"197 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123016034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
