The main targets of these experiments were to raise the productivity of squash fruits as well as improve its nutritive content and quality characteristics. Split plot design with three replicates was used where K – treatments i.e 0, 62.5 and 125 Kg K2O fed-1were allotted to the main plots however, sub plots were comprised of different foliar spraying treatments of Mn namely 0, 0.3 and 0.6 g L-1. Data obtained revealed the following important topics : 1– K soil application and foliar spraying of Mn had synergistic impacts on squash vegetative growth characteristics, yield and yield components as well as nutritive content and quality characteristics of squash fruits, except crude fiber and total phenol. Differences between either K levels or Mn ones for all abovementioned parameters were significant and treatments of K2 and Mn2 achieved the highest values. 2Additional positive effects were observed when the addition of K and Mn simultaneously. In this concern, the best values were recorded at the treatment of K2×Mn2 for all the investigated parameters. In brief, the productivity of squash fruits as well as their nutritive content and quality characteristics can be improved through K – soil application and foliar spraying of Mn at levels of 125 kg K2O fed-1 and 0.6 g Mn L-1, respectively in a dual treatment.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127526305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Soil classification and land evaluation for this area are also performed. According to the RS and GIS works, seven geomorphic units are recognized in the studied area. These units are gently undulated Low Terraces (29.0%), undulated Low Terraces (25.0%), gently undulated High Terraces (15.0 %), undulated High Terraces (17.0 %), Out Wash Plains (8.0 %), Alluvial Plains (3.0 %) and Residual Hills (4.0 %). The soils of the different geomorphic units were represented by 22 soil profiles. The soil morphological description was carried out and 65 disturbed soil samples were collected for physical and chemical analyses. The correlation between geomorphic units and their soils was carried out and then the soil map was created using the ArcGIS 10.x software. Based on the land characteristics, the studied soils were classified up to the family level according to Soil Survey Staff (2014). These soils could be affiliated to Aridisols and Entisols orders. The soils are evaluated according to their capability for agriculture in the current and potential situations. The results revealed that, the studied soils could be categorized into four classes namely, moderately suitable (S2), marginally suitable (S3), current not suitable (N1), and permanent not suitable (N2). The limitations affected these soils are texture, salinity & alkalinity and CaCO3. The potential capability of these soils are predicted when their limitations well be remedied. Also, the suitability for cultivation four main crops namely wheat, barley, potato and olive in the studied area are assessed. The results indicated that, olive was the most suitable for growing in these soils.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116800904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last few decades, the farmers and the government have made a great effort to diminish the hazard of soil salinity. The resistance of soils to salinity processes by human positive actions is known as soil resilience. This study aims to assess the soil salinity and resilience at north of Nile Delta and evaluate their impact on macro nutrients uptake by wheat plant. To fulfill these objectives, (i) field survey for identifying the main soil physical and chemical properties as well as the nutrients status in soils of the study area were carried out, (ii) explore the effects of salinity on the macronutrients uptake and ionic relations, and to (iii) status of macronutrients in soils and wheat plant in salinity environments. The results showed that the textural classes of these soils were clay were determined in cultivated land. In addition, The CEC range between 26.49 to 33.03Cmolc kg -1 , total CaCO 3 was range between 0.91 to 3.04 % and the gypsum was range between 1.69 to 5.64 %. The dominant soluble cations were Na + followed by Ca +2 and Mg +2 while K + was rather low in a descending order. On the other hand, soluble anions were dominated by Cl - and SO 4-2 . Results on correlations of EC with macronutrients in the soils, it gives strong positively correlation and regression of EC constant with available macronutrients. The present study confirms that at all salinity levels the variation in germination, plant growth, dry matter accumulation, ionic strength and availability of nutrients in seeds and straw could be better explored in determining the tolerance capacity of the wheat cultivars.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122863898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An adequate supply of P is therefore required for proper functioning and various metabolisms of plants. Majority of P in soils is fixed and hence, plant available P is scarcely available despite the abundance of both inorganic and organic P forms in soils. A group of soil microorganisms capable of transforming insoluble P into soluble and plant accessible forms across different genera, collectively called phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), have been found as best ecofriendly option for providing inexpensive P to plants. These organisms in addition to supplying soluble P to plants also facilitate the growth of plants by several other mechanisms, for instance, improving the uptake of nutrients and stimulating the production of some phytohormones. Two field experiments were conducted at EL-Gemmiza, Agric. Res. Station, (30o 47׳ 22.5״ N, 31° 07׳ 34״ E, elev. 10 m), Agric. Res. Centre., El-Gharbia Governorate, Egypt, during the two successive summer seasons of 2017 and 2018, to study the effect of different application sources and rates of phosphorus on the growth, productivity, yield characters and quality of soybean (Glycine max L.), c.v. Giza 111. The treatments consisted of four sources of phosphorus [single super phosphate (SSP), rock phosphate (RP), single super phosphate (SSP) + phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) and rock phosphate (RP) + phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB)] at three levels of added P.i.e (0, 15 and 22.5 kg P2O5 fed -1 ).Results revealed that seed and straw yield and uptake of N, P and K increased significantly with both sources of P over control. Application of single superphosphate proved superior increases compared to rock phosphate in respect of yield and uptake of nutrients. There was a significant increase in yield and uptake of nutrients with increase in P application rate from 15 kg P 2O5 fed -1 to 22.5 kg P2O5 fed -1 applied either as SSP or RP. Protein content in soybean seed increased significantly with both the sources of P. The application of SSP +PSB (T9) recorded higher yield (grain and straw) and uptake of nutrients than phosphorus alone. The maximum seed (1572 kg/fed) and straw (4473.33 kg/fed) yields were recorded with 22.5 kg P2O5 fed -1 as SSP+PSB. Significant differences among the treatments were noticed with respect to number of pods per plant, seed yield per plant, test weight and seed yield. Application of 22.5 kg P2O5 fed -1 with PSB (T9) produced maximum number of pods/plant (150.67), seed yield (74.23 g/plant) and hundred seed weight (18.77 g/plant) as SSP and the lowest was in the control. Regarding evaluation of phosphorus use efficiency had more pronounced effects on combined application of SSP+PSB followed by RP+ PSB. Quality parameters viz., oil content, oil yield and crude protein content differ markedly among different treatments with the application of levels of phosphorus and bio-fertilizer.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126006420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Application rates of farmyard manure (FYM) were 0 and 5 ton fed. -1 , while potassium humate at rates of 0 and 5 kg fed. -1 . The layout of the experiment was a splitplot design, with the main plots arranged in a randomized complete blocks design, with three replicates. The results showed that, there are a significant increases of the estimated growth parameters, i.e. plant height (cm), spike length (cm), number of tillers/ plant, number grains/ spike as well as straw and grain yields of wheat plants and their content (concentration and uptake) of the determined macro( N, P and K) and micro(Fe, Mn and Zn) nutrients and protein content as a result of N, FYM and K-humate applications in both individually and together. The highest values of these determinations were found in the plants fertilized by N + FYM followed by these resulted from the treatment of N + potassium humate, except weight 1000 grains, grain yield and K content which gave the highest values with the treatment of N + potassium humate. In addition, individual applications of N resulted in a decrease in the soil content of available macro(N, P and K) and micro(Fe, Mn and Zn) nutrients, but increased the soil content of available compared with the control treatment. On the other hand, there are an increase of soil content of available macroand micro-nutrients under study as a result of individual applications of FYM and K-humate with the superior increase of FYM compared with that with K-humate, except the soil content of available K. Also, the soil content of OM was decreased with the increase of added N, but increased as a result of FYM and K-humate applications alone. Soil bulk density was increased in the fertilized by N alone and decreased in the soil fertilized by individual applications of FYM and K-humate. To achieve this purpose, satellite images were interpreted and handled using GIS technique. Thirty soil profiles in addition to fifty-six minipits were chosen representing soils of the studied area. The soil units of the studied area were created and mapping based on the spatial variability of soil salinity and soil sodicity. The results indicated that, the largest soil unit with about 56.5% of the total studied area is \"slightly saline, non-sodic soils\". The second unit is the \"slightly saline, sodic soils\" that occupies about 5% of the studied area. In addition, \"moderately saline, non-sodic soils\" unit occupies 3.5% from studied area as small patches. Another \"moderately saline, sodic soils\" unit covers about 2.3%. The smallest unit is “highly saline, sodic soils” that covers about 1% of the total studied area. The variations between soil units are rendered mainly to the using of agricultural drainage water in irrigation. The capability evaluation indicated that, the studied area have two classes. The first class is the \"moderately suitable for agriculture\" S2 that occupies 67% of the area and affected with texture as a main limiting factor. The second class is the \"marginally suitable\" S3 that found in 1% from the area and suffering from texture, salinity and sodicity as main limiting factors Studied Chemical Degradation Indices (CDI) vary from very low to high. The largest class includes the moderate degraded soils that covers about 42% of the studied area. The soils having low CDI covers about 14%. About 11 % of the total studied area have a high CDI. The remaining are fishpond (29.98 %) and urban areas (2.07 %). Studied Biological Degradation Indices (BDI) indicated that the largest area (40%) could be affiliated to the moderate Biological Degradation class that having low organic matter content because of the prevailing semiarid conditions.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130530742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Irrigation upon 25% available moisture depletion (AMD) (I25%), 50% AMD (I50%) and 75% AMD (I75%). Proline treatments which included spray with 2 mg Proline L-1 (P1) as well as No-Porline spray (P0). Whereas, spraying was done at the times 20, 45 and 60 days post-seeding (1200 L/ha.). The cultivated crop was Sudan grass. Two cuts were taken after 60and 120 days from sowing. Obtained results showed that: Soil organic matter increased by 18.4% by (C48). Soil bulk density significantly decreased with the application of compost. Values of total porosity and hydraulic conductivity were significantly increased as a result of compost application. Available N, P and K in the soil at the end of experiment were greater in treatments receiving compost and irrigated upon depletion of 50% available water (I50%). Fresh and dry yield (two cut) were the highest with treatments of irrigation up to 50% depletion of water (I50%), compost at 48 ton/ha. (C 48ton) and Proline-spray (P1). Key wards: Compost, Prolene , Irrigation , Clay soil, Sudan grass. INTRODUCTION The recent policy of Egypt tended to increase and improve the arable area to and exploit the resources available. Improvement of salt affected soils using amendment such as compost could be employed to maintain soil health, reduce pollution and increase agriculture productivity. Irrigated agriculture is vital for Egypt where rainfed agriculture does not represent any significant part of arable farming. Therefore, maximizing the return obtained from irrigation is very important. Compost has a positive effect on soil fertility and physical properties. It could also increase the irrigation water application efficiency. Sudan grass are gained increasing importance as nan forage crop in many regions of the world including Egypt. They tolerate adverse conditions such as salinity, heat, drought, and low soil fertility. Abdel-Moez, et al., 1995, AbdelWahab, 1999, Badawi, 2003 and Rehan, et al., 2004 reported that application of organic amendments caused an increasing of soil EC from being about 0.3 to reach as much as about 2 dSm-1 , due to the release of soluble salts during their decomposition or due to contents of soluble salts inherent in the amendments. Torres-Tomejil (2008) found that, soil EC was not affected by application of organic amendments. Mekail (1994) treated a sandy soil with organic amendments and obtained an increase in soil organic matter. Moreover, Abdel-Aal et al. (2003) and Yaduvanshi (2003) found that the application of organic materials increased organic matter content in the soil. Modaihsh et al. (2005), Las TorresTomejil (2008) and Ibrahim et al. Treatments include single or dual inoculation of Bradyrhizobium (BR) and the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (VAM), as biofertilizers. In addition, eight mineral fertilizer treatments, nitrogen (75, 100 and 120% of recommended dose), phosphorus (50, 75 and 100% of recommended dose) and two molybdenum treatments (with 200 g ha-1 Mo as ammonium molybdate and without) under randomize complete block statistical design (RCBD). The results indicate that inoculation with VAM+BR significantly increase hundred kernel weight, kernel, pods, hay and biological yield by 34.00, 26.12, 45.81, 26.80 and 34.32 %, respectively compared to uninoculated treatments followed by single treatments of BR then VAM. Data also revealed that bacterial–mycorrhizal–legume symbiosis increase significantly VAM infection and number of spores, nodule number and BR count, nitrogenase activity and alkali phosphatase compared with uninoculated. Also, the plant nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) concentrations, protein content and shelling percentage were significantly increased due to dual biofertilizers followed by the single inoculation. Application of molybdenum increased nodules number per plant and BR count by 4.35 and 10.97% when compared with without molybdenum application. Generally, inoculation with VAM and BR can, synergistically, remove the deficient effect of N and P in the soil of low nutrient content. At the same time, increase the NUEs and PUEs. Bio-Dependency of pods, hay and biological yields increased significantly by 29.70, 36.89 and 45.87; 15.08, 21.02 and 26.93; and 20.76, 27.18 and 34.28%, respectively with inoculation with VAM, BR and VAM+BR.","PeriodicalId":355116,"journal":{"name":"Menoufia Journal of Soil Science","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132492094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
