The participants (N=120; 60 opioid user group and 60 non-user gender matched group) completed a questionnaire comprising of demographic information, Multidimensional Locus of Control Scales (Levenson, H., 2009) and Spiritual Attitude and Involvement List (SAIL; De Jager Meezenbroek, E et al., 2012). The results indicated that the opioid user group scored higher in the external locus of control scales (Powerful others scale and Chance scale) as compared to the non-user group in the Multidimensional Locus of Control Scales. There was a significant difference between the two groups in the Spiritual Attitude and Involvement List (SAIL) where the non-user group scored higher in all the subscales. Correlational analysis indicated that in the opioid user group, Internal Scale was significantly positively related to SAIL (Caring for Others), while Powerful others was significantly negatively related to SAIL (Trust). In the non-user group, there was a significant positive relationship between Chance Scale with both Internal Scale and the Powerful Others Scale while Internal Scale was significantly positively related to all the SAIL subscales such as Trust, Caring for Others and Transcendent experiences. The results were found to be consistent with similar researches done in the past and has hence reiterated the importance of religious and spiritual based intervention in substance treatment programs as well as the necessity to readjusting one’s locus of control to deal effectively with substance use.","PeriodicalId":35394,"journal":{"name":"Mind and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82966468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Younger people are vulnerable to negative psychological consequences during the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress among the younger Nepalese population during the COVID-19 pandemic.Furthermore, it aimed to examine sociodemographic predictors of anxiety, depression, and stress. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted through online platforms. Three hundred-one (301) participants of age group 16- 40 years filled the validated Anxiety, Depression, and Stress Scale (ADSS) form between 5th October 2020 to 5th December 2020.The total prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress in our study population was 46.5%, 50.6%, and 56.2%, respectively. Anxiety, depression, and stress all were predominant among the age group of 16-24 years, female population, those living in rural areas, and respondents with undergraduate education levels. Moreover, depression was found to be higher among tribal ethnicity, married women, and respondents with the perceived defect. Binary logistic regression analysis showed females (odds ratio (OR)=1.64; 95% CI: 0.99-2.17) and undergraduate educationlevels(OR=4.246; 95% CI: 1.44-12.53) were independently associated with anxiety; tribal ethnicity respondents (OR=2.22; 95% CI: 1.31-3.74) showed higher rate of depression and the age group 16-24 years (OR=0.34; 95% CI: 0.12-0.95) were found to have increased stress level. The Nepalese youth population showed a high prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress. These findings suggest that psychological support programs are needed urgently to promote the psychological well-being of Nepalese youth. Also, future longitudinal studies should be conducted with an adequate sample size to explore the long-term mental health impact of COVID-19 among the youth population.","PeriodicalId":35394,"journal":{"name":"Mind and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81276913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deception can be found in birds, animals, and microbes. But, in humans, deception is not a part of biological activities. Human deception can be for survival or for escaping from the punishment of wrongdoing of them. Anyway, human deception is a trending topic in the science world. There are various techniques in the forensic psychology field to detect human deception. Polygraph, layered voice analyser, forensic Narcoanalysis, and brain electrical oscillation signature profiling, brain fingerprinting are the major deception detection techniques. This review article focuses on the theoretical perspectives and background of Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature Profiling. BEOS is an Indian lie detection tool, developed by Dr. C.R. Mukundan. This paper is inspired from the above thought and is focused on the academic stress and depression on college students during Covid 19. Academic stress and depression are the burning cause of suicide and suicidal attempts among college students. There are lots of cases reporting by media about adolescents attempting and committing suicide. During Covid 19 pandemic, since the classes are on virtual mode, the pressure of academics have gone onto much higher level on students. Attending back-to-back online classes this will resultantly increase in the screen time is verry challenging. Students are not able to show up their natural and real self. Keeping this in view it is a need of an hour to investigate the causal factor that are affecting students psychologically. This investigation will help us in understanding diverse and varied thoughts that are taking birth in the student’s mind. The present study is designed to study the relationship between academic stress and depression among college students during Covid 19.","PeriodicalId":35394,"journal":{"name":"Mind and Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79620862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
