In 2020 the yearly questionnaire also contained items on the new services introduced by the library to help users deal with the effects of the health crisis faced by the hospital. The results revealed that the library continued to be among staff’s most highly esteemed providers of high quality information. Librarians have been key players in a time of uncertainty, enabling healthcare professionals to find the information needed during a scenario in which decisions could not be adopted lightly.","PeriodicalId":35389,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospital Librarianship","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49124390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a collaboration between an academic librarian and an interventional radiologist and attempts to reflect on the lived experience of the radiologist and locate that experience within the wider Library and Information Science context. Findings include new insights into the role of librarians within the dissemination of research during the pandemic and analysis on libraries as a therapeutic space, even when operating remotely. As the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic approaches, it is possible to look back and reflect on the impact it has had within a medical setting. It is also interesting for professionals in allied or separate fields to discuss how the pandemic has changed professional practice and identify lessons for the future. The authors are university friends who share an interest in professional practice and research in our respective fields. Alex Wheeler is an Academic Liaison Librarian working at Manchester Metropolitan University. Dr. Simon Zakeri is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist, currently undertaking a Fellowship at Auckland City Hospital but formerly working in National Health Service (NHS) England at the St. Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust. We identified four key observations about the radiologist’s COVID-19 experience using NHS Library and Information Services (LIS) and these observations form the basis of this article.","PeriodicalId":35389,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospital Librarianship","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45473679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author conducted face-to-face interviews with 15 hospital librarians from across the United States via Zoom and analyzed the data for common themes. Themes that emerged were resilience, continuous marketing, and a lack of a systematic approach to measuring librarian impact resulting from low user engagement and comprehensive feedback.","PeriodicalId":35389,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospital Librarianship","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46350776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These labels helped to distinguish which occupations, industries, and employees were absolutely necessary to stay functioning as initially designed. Business restrictions placed on non-essential employees by state and federal health guidance, such as quarantining and working from home, were meant to prevent exposure to and the spread of COVID-19. Healthcare is considered one of those critical infrastructure sectors, yet as many as 1.4 million hospital workers were laid off as early as April 2020 (1). Medical libraries were among those hospital departments that were severely reduced either in salary, budget, or employees. Before the pandemic, those who worked long enough in the field of health science librarianship knew the unfortunate fact that they were most likely considered non-essential by hospital administrators long before the pandemic. The pressure to demonstrate value as part of a non-revenue generating entity such as a library in times of economic challenge is reiterated constantly by library peers, discussed in countless online librarian blogs, and mentioned in articles published in specialized periodicals such as the Journal of Hospital Librarianship (2). While the Consumer Health Librarian at Greenwich Hospital was among those fortunate enough to continue working remotely without reduced hours or pay, she realized that her responsibilities as a community health information expert and provider were becoming harder to accomplish since the hospital’s visitation policy would restrict the public from entering the hospital campus. With restricted public access to the Medical Library, the Consumer Health Librarian anticipated a drastic reduction in health information search requests and book check-outs. Additionally, she would be unable to maintain vital connections with new and returning walk-in patrons.","PeriodicalId":35389,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospital Librarianship","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47566346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a cross-sectional survey approach, a closed-ended questionnaire was administered as a data collection tool among 600 students of 10 public and private sector universities in Pakistan and 438 responses were received. It was found that the respondents’ believed that uploading more information on social media about COVID-19 had spread fear and panic among the students. It was also found males had a high level of psychological fear and physical fears as compared to female respondents. Respondents between the age group of 31 years or more had more psychological fear, followed by respondents between the age group of 24-30 years. However, those whose age was between 18-23 years had fewer psychological fears. The findings of this study could contribute to the body of knowledge on the subject matters.
