Abstract
This column, mentioning a variety of papers, will question the value of patient sitting with direct observation or video monitoring, noting different levels of quality of the literature. In addition, it is noted that sitter programs are difficult to study given the fall prevention programs and observing patients with behavioral problems are site-specific and targeted to the needs of individual organizations. This column will conclude with some personal observations by this author on her training as an observer and the four sessions as an observer-three for safety and one for a psychiatric patient.
