Deep learning have also gained widespread attention and used in various application such as natural language processing, computer vision and speech processing. However, deep learning has been rarely used for MI EEG signal classification. In this paper, we present a deep learning approach for classification of MI-BCI that uses adaptive method to determine the threshold. The widely used common spatial pattern (CSP) method is used to extract the variance based CSP features, which is then fed to the deep neural network for classification. Use of deep neural network (DNN) has been extensively explored for MI-BCI classification and the best framework obtained is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed framework has been evaluated using dataset IVa of the BCI Competition III. It is found that the proposed framework outperforms all other competing methods in terms of reducing the maximum error. The framework can be used for developing BCI systems using wearable devices as it is computationally less expensive and more reliable compared to the best competing methods.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"261 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124263789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the process of the charge and discharge for three-electrode LIBs, the voltage of the cathode and the anode can be simultaneously collected. The incremental capacity curves show that the intercalation and de-intercalation occur both in the cathode and the anode. From the electrochemical impedance spectra, it is known that the electrochemical behavior of full cell depends on both cathode and the anode. The Li ion diffusion on the surface of the cathode dominates the full cell performance at low-frequency range, and electrochemical impedance of the anode dominates at the medium to high frequency.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120953671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, current hotspot detection methods rely mostly on crash occurrences and, therefore, countermeasures can be implemented only after a number of crashes have been occurred. To prevent crashes prior to their actual occurrences, crash precedents, also known as surrogate safety measures, are required. In this regard, driving behavior is recognized as a reliable precedent of crash occurrence because it reflects how human drivers respond to their driving environments. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop a proactive crash hotspot detection method by evaluating relation between crash and aggressive driving behavior that was extracted from 5 taxi drivers' driving records. The spatial correlation analysis results showed that there was a distinct positive correlation between crash and aggressive behavior occurrence as evident from high correlation coefficient (which is about 0. 863.) This finding implies that aggressive driving incidents that were suggested in this research could be considered as a surrogate safety measure for proactively detecting crash hotspots.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127456818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Starting with a 3D protein structure, several programs such as FIRST model the protein as a constraint multigraph, consisting of vertices (atoms) and edges (covalent bonds, hydrogen bonds, electrostatic interactions, and hydrophobic contacts). FIRST applies the pebble game algorithm on the resulting multigraph which rapidly decompose the protein into rigid clusters and flexible regions. Using an extension of FIRST and the pebble game algorithm we propose a computational approach for studying a biological phenomenon 'allostery'. Allostery refers to an effect of binding at one site to another, often significantly distant functional site on the protein, allowing for regulation of the protein function. Most dynamic proteins are allosteric and allostery has even been coined the 'second secret of life', however the molecular mechanisms that give rise to allostery are currently poorly understood. Extending our earlier seminal work, we have developed a rigidity-transmission allostery (RTA) algorithm which predicts if mechanical perturbation of rigidity (mimicking ligand binding) at one site of the protein can propagate across a protein structure and in turn cause a transmission and change in degrees of freedom and conformation at a second distant site, resulting in allosteric transmission. Since RTA algorithm is computationally fast, we can rapidly scan many unknown sites for rigidity-based allosteric communication, identifying potential new allosteric sites and quantify their allosteric effect. We will review the functional importance of protein flexibility and mathematical and algorithmic background of rigidity theory and method FIRST. In this originative expose we describe rigidity based mechanistic allostery communication model. We will also provide a few illustrations of rigidity-based allostery communication on actual protein structures, including the important signaling G-protein coupled receptors. This method will have important consequence in general understanding of allostery and in aid of design of allosteric drugs.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134255774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, one issue with vehicles with WPT is the power degradation that is experienced as misalignment occurs between the vehicle and the road. In order to overcome this problem, a system that can detect the misalignment between the coils and align the vehicle through autonomous steering is proposed in this paper. The concept of this system has been discussed, and simulation results validate that the proposed system's operational concept is feasible, and will be able to reduce power degradation from misalignment.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125929684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was developing a CFD model of an anoxic zone-1 and simulating the fluid flow using ANSYS code 'Fluent'. A 2D model of an activated sludge process bioreactor anoxic zone was simulated to evaluate the hydrodynamic performance and influence of the inflow through the various inlets. Furthermore, the simulation also sought to evaluate the influence on the hydrodynamic performance from structure geometry. The 2D model was able to simulate the flow pattern within the zone and results from the CFD model varied between 3% and 10% at key locations. A 3D model was also developed of the anoxic zone to further evaluate the hydrodynamic performance. The 3D model produced consistent results to the physical data collected from the plant. The hydrodynamic performance of the anoxic zone was able to be evaluated from the CFD simulations and from the physical samples collected for velocity readings and suspended solids. In the key locations, the CFD simulation showed the consistent results with the physical data. The anoxic zone was subject to velocity lower than the desired 0.3 meters per second. However suspended solid samples suggest that the zone is still within the acceptable range for specific power dissipation. Therefore, an increase in operating parameter which increases the inflow into the zone can mitigate the need for submersible mixers.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128693085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fossil fuel savings, carbon emission reductions, as well as a permanent fall in electricity prices, are significant incentives for the residential consumers to look at different methods to reduce their energy consumption. Demand Response (DR) is an alternative method which provides an opportunity for consumers to reduce their energy consumption cost by deferring or shifting their electricity usage during peak periods. To this aim, this study evaluates the effectiveness of price-based DR techniques currently available in Western Australia based on the consumer cost of electricity and comfort level. The electricity tariffs are systematically examined, and proper cost analysis is performed using realistic load profiles of a typical household obtained by using smart load monitoring devices. A multi-scenario based approach is conducted to evaluate the electricity tariffs for the typical household. The analysis results show that the Smart Home (SM1) tariff would be the optimum choice for the typical consumer.","PeriodicalId":353588,"journal":{"name":"2016 3rd Asia-Pacific World Congress on Computer Science and Engineering (APWC on CSE)","volume":"82 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134499676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
