A single-stage DC-DC buck converter that extracts maximum power from the connected PV module and controls the output battery state of charge (SoC) is a key component in achieving this target. The introduced circuit consists of three subsystems: a PV module, a Buck converter and an MPPT plus voltage regulation controller. MPPT is achieved via a novel methodology, not only applies to maximum energy extraction of the PV module but also combined with a feedback optimization of the battery charging and discharging modes. The developed system is geared towards Internet of Things (IoT) based wireless sensor nodes (WSN). In the proposed solution, power harvested from the PV module is combined with the battery power; to guarantee that the connected load receives a full supply of power. To maximize the energy conversion a converter controlled MPPT algorithm-Perturb and Observe (P& O) which considers the non-linear output of the PV is utilized with the aid of the buck converter. The validity of the introduced system is tested using the simulation model in PSIM and the results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128947753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research total 2650 (1300 male and 1350 female) data have been used. Bioelectrical impedance at 50 kHz along with physical parameters like age, height, body mass index (BMI) have been used for the mathematical model development. The proposed models have been analyzed statistically by evaluating correlation (Pearson) coefficients, 95% limit of agreement (LOA), absolute errors, bias, root mean square error (RMSE) and compared with actual data. The results show that the correlation (Pearson) coefficients are $0.998 (mathrm{p}lt 0.001)$ for male and $0.997 (mathrm{p}lt 0.001)$ for female people which indicate very good matching with actual data. The intervals of LOA are only -1.93 kg to 1.80 kg and -1.48 kg to 1.38 kg for male and female data respectively and most of errors found by proposed models remain within the limit of agreement. The absolute errors (mean ± Standard Deviation) are $(0.81 pm 0.50)$ kg and $(0.62 pm 0.38)$ kg for male and female data respectively whereas the bias are -0.06 kg for male and -0.05 kg for female population only. The RMSE are also very low and which are 0.95 kg for male and 0.73 kg for female people. Comparing the results of this research with existing models it is seen that proposed mathematical models exhibit better results and hence the proposed models can be more suitable for FFM measurement.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"15 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132782512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, flooding induced by heavy precipitation is one of the regular risks in Eastern Indian states. In this research work, the state of Odisha, India have been selected for predicting floods because majority of the state’s districts have been exposed to floods, leading to unprecedented loss of life and property. In this paper, an optimization based feature selection Genetic Algorithm (GA) have been combined with classification algorithms to predict the occurrence of floods. The experimental results show that the GA-SVM algorithm outperforms in terms of accuracy and total execution time in comparison to other hybrid algorithms. Finally, the results are validated and compared by executing the proposed hybrid algorithm over the heterogeneous resources in Cloud environment.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133292016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The QR software was developed using NVIDIA’s CUDA parallel programming and computing platform and executed on an NVIDIA Tesla GPU accelerator card. Factors affecting program performance of the GPU-accelerated QR implementation are highlighted with respect to the baseline serial implementation developed in MATLAB and executed on a conventional multi-core processor. We compare results with relevant previously published studies and discuss possible performance bottlenecks and speedups.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133339442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For nondispersive infrared device (NDIR) using thermopile, the first condition is damage threshold power at which the incident infrared power must not exceed to avoid damaging the thermopiles. The second condition is the maximum power, in which the incident infrared power should not be higher than a certain level to avoid degrading the sensitivity of the thermopiles. This paper shows a method to estimate the radiation from an IR source and the incident IR power to the thermopile. Signal-to-DC error, signal to noise ratio and other parameters were also analyzed. The real device was used to verify the theoretical values. The results prove that the analyzing method is useful in design, select components, modify, and optimize NDIR devices to detect gases and biological objects.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132257205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first method involves comparison through a bin array and is used as a baseline solution. Data from the input object must be within 40% of the data it is being compared to. At least 80% of the compared data must be matched in order to be classified as a possible object. The second method uses a direct comparison of distance vs. probability histograms. By using histograms, we can contrast the input to the comparative data visually. Lastly, we use Support Vector Machine to classify the object’s class by computing a hyperplane based on input data. Our results show that by using our histogram overlap comparison, we are able to classify 85% of tested objects correctly.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115405564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prosthetics have been developed with the implementation of some existing technologies. However, despite the advances already achieved, mass, energy consumption and torque are some of the problems still faced. This work presents a new methodology for the controlling of a magneto-rheological knee by the use of predictive control. Simulations with the aim of showing the tracking of the torque curve of a healthy knee during the gait cycle were performed. It was verified that the objective was achieved using the proposed technique. From the results, it is possible to conclude that it is advantageous to use this type of technology and that its adoption in the development of real prostheses is feasible.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115122382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PtG units operate as flexible load that absorbs electric power in the process to produce hydrogen or synthetic natural gas. In this paper an optimization based model is presented for sizing PtG units co–operated with existing gas–fired generation (GfG) within an integrated power and gas networks penetrated with renewable energy sources. The objective is to maximize the arbitrage revenue of the facility and increase the renewable energy penetration while maintaining operation constraints in the integrated system. Case studies are conducted on a test system using real world historical data to illustrate the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"562 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117055797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the detection of ground and obstacles plays a relevant role in giving the first impressions of the external surroundings to a machine. Furthermore, it can guide independent movements and decisions. In this study, we introduce a segmentation method that detects ground and non-ground points of complex scenes under different exposures to illumination, textures, and shading. We prepared a dataset with images collected from some environments in which trees are prominent obstacles. The proposed method uses contrast templates, statistical measures, and morphological operators to reach the ground segmentation. Experiments showed satisfactory results in which trees were well detected and the ground was efficiently segmented with the maintenance of the structure of the image.","PeriodicalId":352860,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Canadian Conference of Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117301754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
