We address several issues related to wireless integrated services networks with emphasis on the military environment. Several design issues related to the employment of a (single) macrocell integrated services network in the tactical military environment are discussed. A protocol architecture for integrated services mobile networks to meet the tactical needs is described, taking into consideration low bit-rate services, admission control issues, and user priorities.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121353362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the preliminary results on properties of VHDL specifications that allow for automatic test generation without the exponential growth. In general, VHDL specifications can be modeled as extended finite machines (EFSMs). A class of EFSMs, called consistent EFSMs, allows for the finite state machines (FSM) based test generation techniques to be directly applied to VHDL specifications. An algorithm to identify the consistent EFMSs is introduced.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125623933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The virtual integrated sky network (VISN) combines low-cost, time division multiple access (TDMA) Earth station technology with cell-based switching technology, to provide networks that can connect hundreds of sites. VISN is a product and service offering of Orion Network Systems. VISN employs statistical multiplexing at both the site and TDMA carrier level to ensure efficient use of space segment. Statistical multiplexing enables sites with momentary surges of activity to \"borrow\" bandwidth from less busy sites. VISN guarantees bandwidth for sites with critical file transfers and voice calls. VISN provides roof top to roof top connectivity eliminating the \"last mile\" problem inherent in the use of terrestrial communications. VISN supports frame relay, Ethernet, and analog and digital voice inputs. The current version of VISN can support up to 50 nodes on a two megabit TDMA carrier. A future version of the system will be able to support up to 8, two megabit carriers and up to 254 nodes in the network.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127673904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mechanism calls for integrating the CORBA and Java technologies - simulation applications (models) written in Java access discrete-event simulation capability through a CORBA interface. The discrete-event simulation facility is specified in CORBA IDL which defines operations for object definition, inter-object communication, and event scheduling. The IDL interface definition may be implemented in Java by using different simulation algorithms, over different operating systems or hardware platforms. Simulation applications, developed as stand-alone Java applications or Java applets running within Web browsers, access the facility via the Internet inter-ORB protocol (IIOP) to obtain runtime support for model execution. The paper presents the discrete-event simulation facility IDL interface, describes its prototype implementation using Java and OrbixWeb, and illustrates its application via a producer-consumer example written in Java.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132836564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we describe a CORBA-based network management architecture to address these challenges. In particular, we propose to support network management applications utilizing a distributed object database framework where network information is managed, accessed, and manipulated as a collection of distributed CORBA objects. We will integrate the TMN tiered principle with the manager/agency distributed management paradigm to support management scalability for battlefield networks. An application of the proposed architecture to realize network self-configuration capabilities is also presented.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131998867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome this, a new interference reduction scheme was presented and analyzed by Goiser (see Proc. IEEE-Milcom'96, 1996) for stationary conditions. This paper focuses on the dynamic of the adaptive interference reduction scheme and presents its suitability for the proposed receiver of Goiser. The paper covers the new synchronization scheme using an opening and closing window-technique to acquire the optimum threshold location. The additional absorbing-function makes these threshold synchronization technique very fast. In this paper we focus on the models for the combined process of a direct-sequence signal in additive white Gaussian noise and continuous wave interference after an adaptive 2-bit ADC-nonlinearity. The signal's magnitude distribution and zero-crossings are analyzed. Five models are presented and compared to simulations. The figure of merit uses an integral algorithm to compare the different models. The advantages and disadvantages of each model are presented. The error events encountered will consist primarily of dropped data packets resulting in erased data rather than errors. The scheme is designed to recover large amounts of lost data (of the order of several megabytes) using low coding overhead (of the order of 10%) and is thus applicable for large messages only. The scheme is designed for implementation at the application level, so the minimisation of the computational complexity is the primary design constraint. The scheme is based on multidimensional Reed-Solomon product codes and uses a sub-optimal but computationally feasible decoding procedure.","PeriodicalId":351392,"journal":{"name":"MILCOM 97 MILCOM 97 Proceedings","volume":"449 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132383560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
