Its pathogenesis is not clear, and there is no gold standard for diagnosis [1], but its incidence is gradually increasing [2]. As for its treatment, Western medicine often uses hormones, surgery, nutritional support and other treatments, but the curative effect is not stable and there are many adverse reactions [3]. Chinese medicine (CM) has unique advantages in treating the disease, especially acupuncture, which has good antiinflammatory and analgesic effects [4], and can improve symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and poor mental state in patients with Crohn’s disease [5]. Previous medical records reported acupuncture combined with thunder-fire moxibustion to treat CD [6]. There is no report on the auricular acupoint therapy for this disease. In this report, we present the case of a patient diagnosed with CD who was successfully treated with auricular point therapy plus acupuncture.","PeriodicalId":350008,"journal":{"name":"Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132441632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We investigated this ability in a laboratory experiment with four self-identified professional clairvoyants and three laboratory staff who did not consider themselves to possess clairvoyant skills (as controls). Participants were asked to use extrasensory perception to sense a Buddha relic said to emanate “subtle energy.” Before the experiment, the relic was placed inside an opaque container, and the participants were allowed to familiarize themselves with any subtle energies they felt were emitted by the relic. They were permitted to hold their hands next to the opaque container but not touch it. For each experimental session, the relic was placed inside an opaque container randomly arranged alongside nine other identical containers. In a series of ten consecutive experimental sessions, participants attempted to detect which container held the relic without touching any of the containers. Sessions were conducted inside an electromagnetically shielded room, and the research staff followed strict blinding procedures. Results: The number of times that the container that held the Buddha relic was correctly identified was at or below chance for all participants.","PeriodicalId":350008,"journal":{"name":"Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124560654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Abstract Increased exposure to pathogens and free radicals contributes to the high incidence and mortality rate of various types of cancers in Nigeria and globally. This study aimed to screen twenty extracts from fifteen selected Nigerian medicinal plants used traditionally for cancer treatment for phenolic content, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activities. The phenolic content was determined by Folin – Ciocalteu method, and antimicrobial potentials of the extracts was evaluated using spectrophotometric growth inhibition method while MTT assay was used to assess their cytotoxicity to cancer cell lines. Bark and root extracts of T. tetraptera and X. aethiopica demonstrated satisfactory activities in all the biological tests, which could be linked to their high phenolic contents. The findings support the ethnomedicinal uses of most of the tested medicinal plants. The antimicrobial study showed that the extracts exhibit inhibitory activity against tested bacterial and fungal strains (Table 3). The root and bark extracts of X. aethiopica and leaf extracts of A. difformis, Morinda lucida , and Pterocarpus osun had IC 50 of 1.5, 20.0, 3.8, 16.9, and 4.1 against Salmonella typhi. Similarly, A. difformis and bark extract of X. aethiopica produced comparable activities against E. coli . All tested extracts were active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ; however, none was comparable (P<0.05) to the activity of Streptomycin with IC 50 of 0.9 µg mL -1 . Root extracts of X. aethiopica and leaf extract of A. difformis showed a broad spectrum of antibacterial activities. Antifungal studies against Candida albicans showed that root extracts of C. retusa, T. tetraptera , and Ketoconazole exhibited comparable (P<0.05) antifungal activities.","PeriodicalId":350008,"journal":{"name":"Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127827610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Res Abstract Dyslipidemia (medoroga) is characterized by disorder of lipoprotein metabolism due to abnormal production. The alteration in lipid parameters could largely be the result of life style changes like diet including its kala (Timing), quantitity, Frequency and its various combinations alongwith physical exercise and factors resulting in mental stress and factors related to digestive system. As a result, dyslipidemia could be responsible for several morbid conditions like obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and metabolic syndrome etc. It is believed that abnormal levels of dyslipidemia may be the primary cause for atheroscieroic diseases especially coronary heart diseases among others. Present paper is an attempt in continuation to define dyslipidemia and to measure the impact of various ayurvedic interventions on Total Cholesterol(Tch), Triglyceride (TGL), HDL, LDL and dyslipdemia as a single index defined jointly as Tch>200+Tch to HDL ratio>4.5. The assessment of the impact suggests that Musta churna is highly effective in reducing dyslipidemia by 94.7% followed by Vaman with madanphal (77.8%), Triphala decoction (75%), Yavadi roti with Yog (44.4%), Basti with Basti with Triphala decoction (41.7%) and Shaman with hardradwaya churna (14.3%). However, Pathya-apathya has shown no effect but somewhat negative effect on dyslipidemia.","PeriodicalId":350008,"journal":{"name":"Current Research in Complementary & Alternative Medicine","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115093860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focused on Luzula sylvatica, a Juncaceae member that has sparked growing interest for its anti-inflammatory potential Methods: The antioxidant properties of an ethanolic extract of Luzula sylvatica (LS-E) were tested with a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) assay. The LS-E was then tested on human dermal fibroblast (HDFa) migration, THP-1 macrophage polarization, and a co-culture model of macrophages and fibroblasts Results: The LS-E showed strong DDPH and ORAC values (1,057 μM and 4,954 μM Trolox equivalent, respectively). The LS-E (50 μg/mL) significantly inhibited IL1β expression in pro-inflammatory polarized macrophages and decreased their secretion of PGE2. The co-culture of fibroblasts with inflammatory M1 macrophages increased proteases gene expression of the fibroblasts. The addition of LS-E dampened the expression of the MMP9 significantly whereas it increased COL1A2 by 2.3 Conclusions: Luzula sylvatica exhibited good antioxidant properties and altered the pro-inflammatory polarization of macrophages. By adding the inhibition of expression of proteases in fibroblasts, these results suggest that Luzula sylvatica shows interesting skin protective activity.
