Ten male subjects sat in the front passenger seat of a sedan car and were driven at three different speeds (60, 80 and 100 km/h). During each ride, the vibration dose value (VDV) was measured in the x, y and z-directions on the seat pan and at the backrest. The results showed an increase in the VDV in all directions with increasing the car speed. The VDVs at the backrest were found as high as, or even higher than, those measured on the seat depending on the speed and the measurement axis. Hence, it is recommended that vibration in road vehicles be assessed using more than one speed while taking into consideration measurement at the backrest.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66688700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multi-body numerical model of the engine is implemented, to simulate its dynamic response when running in a bench test. The cranktrain multi-body model is created using geometrical data extracted from engine CAD, using as excitation forces the experimentally measured in-cylinder pressure values. A flexible multi-body approach leverages on FEM modelling of crankshaft, cylinder block and head for the dynamic analysis, with remaining parts modelled as rigid. The engine mounts are modelled by flexible elements with given stiffness and damping. The importance of the explicit modelling of the rods connecting the engine with mounts is highlighted. The software Siemens-LMS Virtual Lab and ANSYS are used for the assessment.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"101"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVNV.2018.095158","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49414542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous researches on the horn effect have only investigated smooth tyres and roads. In this work we take into account the tyre treads in the calculation of the horn effect. The air resonances and horn effects are studied in the same model. A model of flanged networks is established for the tyre/road system, and multi-domain coupling methods are developed for the calculation of the acoustic fields around the flanged networks. With this model the reductions of the amplifications of the horn effect by the networks can be estimated. The models of the flanged networks are also proved to be effective by the experiments. Wooden pipes between a wooden cylinder and a sheet of plywood are built for the validation. A real tyre on a sheet of plywood is also measured and calculated with the proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"191-217"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVNV.2018.095183","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44803663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This noise is radiated to both the inside and the outside of the car. In this paper, the accuracy of the array based techniques has been compared with the one of sound intensity measurements. Then, the engine noise of a car has been measured at different rotational speeds through array based techniques. At low frequencies, statistically optimised near-field acoustical holography (SONAH) allows an accurate identification of the noise sources. At medium and high frequencies, different beamforming algorithms are compared, choosing orthogonal beamforming because of its better behaviour regarding the influence of the sidelobes and the best resolution and identification of the noise sources. The noise source maps obtained using array based techniques allow to locate in an accurate way the noise sources in the engine settled in a car when it is working at different rotational speeds, performing an efficient analysis of details of a possible noise problem. The noise sources identified are: the engine, the timing belt, the air intake system, the diesel pump and the cylinders and the crank system; all of them were afterwards analysed in detail through their noise spectra.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"171"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45778781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model involves motion equations of pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft as well as thermodynamic relations. The heat generation required for the thermodynamic cycle was provided by an algebraic equation established via the Gaussian function. The heat equation was optimised so as to avoid diesel knocking and formation of harmful emissions. The minimisations of pitch and yaw moments were examined via adding counterweights onto the crankshaft. The yaw moment was found to be totally eliminable but the pitch moment was not. According to a coordinate system whose origin is at the mass centre of the engine and its z axis is co-directional with cylinder axes, the flexible mounting elements of the engine were found to be able to set at somewhere on x and y axes.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"147"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49442938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At high speed, wind noise can dominate the total interior noise. Wind noise is associated with the unsteadiness of the flow. For most production cars, A-pillar and side view mirror are the regions where the highly separated and turbulent flows are observed. This study quantifies the wind noise contribution from A-pillar and side view mirror with respect to the interior noise of a generic realistic model, DrivAer. The noise sources are obtained numerically from the flow-structure interactions based on the unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier stokes (URANS) while the noise propagation is estimated using Curle's equation of Lighthill acoustic analogy. The sound pressure frequency spectrum of the interior noise is obtained by considering the sound transmission loss from the side glass by using the mass law for transmission loss. The study found that the noise from the A-pillar is higher than the noise from the side view mirror in the whole frequency range. Near the end of the A-pillar component contributes the highest radiated noise level with up to 20 dB louder than that at the front part of the A-pillar.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"38"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46169673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to study the vibration properties of a tire, various models have been presented in the literature. The main purpose of the current study is a brief review of the characteristics of some models. It is supposed that the tire is subjected to an excitation caused by the contact between the tire and the road. Subsequently, the dynamic behaviour of these models are studied and compared with each other. The effects of inflation pressure and the tread patterns on the dynamic behaviour of the mentioned models are examined. For verification, the dynamical behaviour of the tire is studied experimentally. Application of the present study can be contemplated in the prediction of rolling noise and rolling resistance.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVNV.2018.093105","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41951228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Toward this end, an experimental design was carried out to acquire the noise and vibration data using three local compact cars namely Viva, Myvi and Axia on stationary and running conditions with a variety of engine speeds transmissions. The measured noise and vibration were analysed to obtain the sound quality parameters loudness and sharpness, sound pressure level and vibration exposures in the interior vehicle cabin. Overall findings of this study indicate that the comfort level is factually influenced by factors including type of road surface, engine transmissions and vehicle design characteristics. The results also indicate that the proposed approach is reliable and can be utilised by automotive researchers to identify the optimal NVH values necessary for vehicle refinement and noise control.","PeriodicalId":34979,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Vehicle Noise and Vibration","volume":"14 1","pages":"84"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45653750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
