In past years, ASF has rapidly spread over Europe, Asia, and Oceania, and begin to enter Indonesia in the middle of 2019. The clinical and pathological symptoms of ASF are influenced by the strain's virulence, the transmission pathway, and the pig's immunological and health status. ASF’s clinical manifestations are known to evolve, from after an invasion enters a new free region to after the disease has been established in the territory for a longer period. Identifying ASF clinical signs and pathological changes is crucial for a comprehensive and reliable early detection system. The objective of this research is to observe and identify gross pathology in ASF suspect pigs in order to obtain a better understanding of the cause of death. Two dead pigs from a farm in Oebelo village, Kupang regency, Indonesia with a recent history of massive deaths had been examined in this study. The post-mortem results showed that hemorrhagic splenomegaly and hemorrhagic lymphadenitis were the main lesions observed at the examinations. Furthermore, hemorrhages were also found in various internal organs such as the kidneys, liver, and heart. To determine the exact cause of the pigs' deaths, a molecular diagnostic test should be conducted.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129542358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incidence of antibiotic resistance in the livestock sector occurs due to the use of antibiotics that are not based on recommendations and antibiotics are given in the long term. The presence of bacteria that carry resistance to one or several kinds of antibiotics in livestock is a threat to animal and human health. The city of Kupang as an area that has pig farms and a high pig population has a big challenge to the emergence of antibiotic resistance due to the use of antibiotics in maintaining livestock health. One of the bacteria that has a large number of distributions and is widely found in livestock and is an indicator of antibiotic resistance is Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). This research has used an observational research method based on data collection methods and laboratory examinations, which are adjusted to the objectives that have been set. The approach that has been used in this research is a Cross Sectional Study, because it wants to get an overview of S. aureus bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. The sample that has been needed is pig feces obtained by field observations. The data analysis technique that has been used is a descriptive analysis model, to explain the presence of antibiotic-resistant S. aureus bacteria in pig farms. The results showed that this isolation and identification process resulted in 28 (51.85%) samples that were positive for S. aureus. The highest prevalence of resistance was found in S. aureus which was resistant to the antibiotic Colistin sulfate (82.1%). The number of antibiotics tested from S. aureus isolates showed various variations from 0 to 3 types of antibiotics that were resistant in 1 isolate. The most common resistance pattern shown in S. aureus isolates was the CS (Colistin sulfate) pattern as many as 19 of the 28 samples. The conclusion of this study encourages the need to increase supervision related to the use of antibiotics and increase public awareness of the use of antibiotics and prevention of the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistance.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122314519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twelve adult local male goats were examined to study normal testes and epididymis ultrasonic appearances. B-mode real time scanner with a 7.5 MHz, linear array transducer was used to evaluate the echotexture of the testicular parenchyma, mediastinum and the epididymis. The testicular parenchyma was represented uniformly homogenous and moderately echogenic with the mediastinum was more highly echogenic. The epididymal head appeared less echogenic but homogenous in structure, while the epididymal tail was more heterogeneous and less echogenic than the testis. Each structure in male reproductive organ, the testis, head and tail of epididymis can be differentiated using ultrasound imaging, but body epididymis was difficult to identify. It is concluded that ultrasound can be as a valuable diagnostic tool to investigate the health of male goat reproductive organ.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114138982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s contains antioxidant that prevent the free radicals due to hyperglycemic condition. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the ability of the ethyl acetate fraction of bay leaf in male white rats had hyperglycemia due to alloxan administration. This study used laboratory tests in which up to 24 white rats were randomly separated into six groups. Intraperitoneal administration of alloxan at a dose of 170 mg/Kgbw is used to induce hyperglycemia. A group of healthy rats (K-) were administered 0,5% CMC Na suspension 1mL/day. A group of hyperglycemic rats (K+) received metformin at a dose of 45 mg/Kgbw/1mL/day, while a group of hyperglycemic rats (P0) received 0.5% CMC Na suspension at a dose of 1mL/day. Three hyperglycemia treatment groups received different amounts of ethyl acetate fraction of bay leaf for 14 days. The P1 group received 125 mg/Kgbw/1mL/day of bay leaf ethyl acetate fraction extract, the P2 group received 250 mg/Kgbw/1mL/day, and the P3 group received 500 mg/Kgbw/1mL/day. Blood glucose levels were measured before and after alloxan administration, and then again on day 14. After 14 days of treatment, all rats were euthanized, and blood from the heart was collected to examine the insulin levels. To determine the differences between treatments, statistical analysis utilizing ANOVA was used, followed by Duncan's test. The findings revealed administered an ethyl acetate fraction of bay leaf can lower blood glucose and increased insulin levels in rats had hyperglycemia.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131618617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the use of Makasar fruit drugs with topical application as an ointment to treat incision wounds or diabetic wounds is extremely rare. The purpose of this research is to produce ointment and to assess the physical quality of the ointment made from the ethanolic extract of the Makassar fruit. The ointment used in this study was made with ethanol extract of Makassar fruit, alpha tocopherol, propyl-paraben, and Vaseline album. The data were observed descriptively and using a qualitative method. This study used two ointment concentrations, 15% and 20%, which were tested three times for each physical evaluation (organoleptic test, homogeneity test, dispersibility test, and pH test). The results showed that the ethanol extract of Makassar fruit could be formulated as an ointment, and the physical evaluation of the ointment discovered that the ointment met the organoleptic standards and the homogeneity standards. Furthermore, the pH test revealed that the ointment was safe to use; however, only 1 sample (repeat 1 concentration of 20%) confirmed that it did not meet the pH requirements because it was lower than the standard (acid pH). Furthermore, the dispersion tests indicated that the ointment did not meet the ointments dispersion standard. Conclusion: because the physical examination showed that the ointment met the standard values, the ointment can be made from the ethanol extract of Makassar fruit. However, because the ointment's spreadability is below the standard value, it must be taken into account.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123009418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rote Ndao Regency is one of the areas with a large pig population in NTT. Livestock health is an important factor to support the sustainability of pig farming in Rote Ndao, which cannot be separated from the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are substances produced by microorganisms naturally, semi-synthetic or synthetic which in small amounts can inhibit or kill bacteria. However, the use of antibiotics by pig farmers is not done rationally. This can lead to antibiotic residues in food of animal origin, the incidence of resistance, and treatment failure. The purpose of this research is to examine the use of antibiotics by pig farmers without going through a prescription or veterinary supervision, the types of antibiotics often used by pig farmers and the reasons for using antibiotics themselves by pig farmers. Data were obtained from filling out questionnaires by 385 respondents as pig farmers. Primary data is processed and analyzed and then presented in the form of graphs or tables. The results showed that the respondents who used antibiotics without a prescription, applied antibiotics without the supervision of a veterinarian, were all pig farmers who used antibiotics. The most commonly used antibiotics are the tetracyclines, sulfonamides and penicillins. The reason pig farmers use antibiotics without veterinary supervision is that antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infectious diseases, increase livestock appetite, increase livestock weight, prevent disease and treat all types of diseases.","PeriodicalId":349647,"journal":{"name":"JURNAL KAJIAN VETERINER","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125967683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
