This approach provides the possibility of using remote control in the treatment via computer nets (e.g. the Internet), and it represents an advance in some selected treatments. The method being developed is advantageous particularly in dermatology, cosmetics and cosmetic surgery.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123106579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reconfigurable cache is an effective low-power technique. Using the technique, microprocessor's cache can be configured dynamically to adapt itself to the requirement of running program, and minimize the energy consumption and performance loss. We introduce a phase-based self-tuning algorithm (PBSTA), which can automatically, transparently, and dynamically manage the reconfigurable cache on a per-phase basis. In contrast with previous works, the algorithm seeks not only to lower the cache's energy consumption effectively, but also reduce the performance loss due to unnecessary reconfigurations. By simulating numerous MiBench benchmarks, the results show that the PBSTA, when applied to reconfigurable cache, saves on average 40% of total memory access energy compared with a conventional cache and the associated performance loss is close to 1.8%.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128226952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper addresses an even more complex scenario, that of role provisioning in telecare. Here the roles may be doctor, nurse, carer, etc. And they must be enabled to participate in monitoring remote care-receivers via the Internet, using their professional expertise and skills, with access to online-resources. We show that the complexity of role provisioning is attributable not only to defining a role or roles within an organisation, but also to a large degree of uncertainty on how to manage online-contexts. We illustrate this by giving practical scenarios including services in on/offline mode, patient participation, and professional participation with different care-levels. We call these online-contexts \"dynamic role settings\". This work describes an approach to establishing a dynamic channel of interaction between a care-provider (e.g. doctor), necessary resources, and a care-receiver (e.g. patient), so as to manage the care-receivers' needs and the care-providers' responsibilities.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132809795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses handheld devices to tersely log events in situ, and allows later reflection and elaboration through annotation of the logged events on desktop computer. The terse, ephemeral capture of events coupled with post-hoc annotation has been novelly exploited to design a system that supports teachers' development as reflective practitioners and enables richer capture of grade school student behaviour and performance.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132366064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the network needs reorganized when the peers are joining or leaving. To reduce the performance degradation caused by the reorganizations, we proposed a two-layer hybrid P2P network (HP2P). The upper layer is chord network and the lower layer is cluster in HP2P. In this paper, the cluster is described in detail. Peers are organized into clusters, and the network reorganizations are restricted within the clusters where a peer can join or leave. Besides, each cluster is also enhanced through some specific mechanisms such as Supernode, metadata redundancy and gossip flooding. Consequently, the two layers P2P become more robust. Further, the high efficiency of distributed hash tables(DHTs) can be retained, and the churn caused by excessive node joining and leaving can be reduced.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122108220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such environments a significant amount of information directly related to users are fetched, exchanged, processed and delivered as personalized services. Due to automation of infrastructure both users and services have many agents acting on their behalf. Respectively in pervasive systems one of the most problematic concerns arises on user right to maintain privacy. This paper is focused on instruments to enable and maintain privacy through a subtle fusion of different privacy enabling techniques. We present conceptual privacy enabling architecture of infrastructural pervasive middleware that uses trust management, privacy negotiation and identity management during the inter-entity communication lifecycle. Using this approach balance between the conflicting interest of pervasiveness on one hand and protecting privacy on the other is achieved.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125715176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through the course of time the true value of electronic content may simply evaporate due to technological progress and incompetence to prove the authenticity of data stored. This paper presents an approach and a solution to the problem of long-term preservation of electronic data for dematerialized business processes. The basic system design and the architecture of a long-term electronic archive service is introducing a protocol and an evidence record syntax that is being standardized within the IETF long term archive and notarization service working group. The proposed system environment is based PKI-enabled services for creation of long term integrity proofs. Furthermore, the solution contains additional class of services that meet the requirements for long term validity of digitally signed and legally binding documentation.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127154656","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-attribute decision support models are typically developed through the decomposition of complex decision problems into smaller and less complex subproblems; the result of such decomposition is a hierarchical structure that consists of attributes and utility functions. We introduce an approach to the development of multi-attribute decision support model that is based on an expert system shell for multi-attribute decision support and illustrate its usefulness by showing its main features and its application to the above intervention problem.","PeriodicalId":348977,"journal":{"name":"First International Conference on the Digital Society (ICDS'07)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129229422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
