We propose a novel method called MLRefine to counter these effects by refining RSS measurement data to obtain more accurate values that can enhance ranging and localization accuracies. MLRefine uses machine learning methods to model the relationship between accurate values and features extracted from in silico RSS values. MLRefine then applies the trained model to features extracted from real RSS measurement values to return a predicted set of refined RSS values. The refined RSS values are shown through computer simulations and real experiments to improve localization accuracy.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128280108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, RBC system operation relies on information availability including power receiver location, class label and the receiver number. Since smartphone is the most widely-used mobile device, we propose a Mask R-CNN based smartphone detection model in the RBC system. Experiments illustrate that our model reduces the smartphone scanning time to one third. Thus, this machine learning detection approach provides an intelligent way to improve the user experience in wireless power transfer for mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128988057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tremendous efforts have focused on the interference management (IM) for HetNet. Nevertheless, for different network configurations' e.g., different deployments of small cell (SC) base stations (BSs) and users, different number of SC BSs and users, etc., the performances of different IM schemes may vary. The current fixed only one or two types of IM schemes can not guarantee the optimal performance for different scenarios of mMIMO HetNet. Therefore, a hybrid IM schemes is proposed here. We formulate the determination of IM schemes as an optimization problem for maximizing the overall data rate, which is solved by the D.C. (difference of two convex functions) program. Numerical results show the significant performance enhancement compared with the fixed IM schemes. Moreover, it is found that, for large coverage of SC case, nearly maximum system performance in practical scenario can be achieved with not so large number of antennas at macro-cell BS.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130916010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the ability of the controller to communicate with switches is critical for the operationability of the network, reliable connectivity of the control channel must be provided. This question is especially important for in-band control channels, where no separate management network is available and most switches are not directly connected to the controller(s). In our previous work [1], we argued for providing reliable connectivity for the in-band control channel using a distributed routing protocol. We presented the protocol Izzy which is optimized for robust connectivity between a single SDN controller and the switches under its control. Realistic deployments, however, use logically-centralized controller clusters for reliability and scalability reasons. In this paper, we describe how to extend Izzy to support such logically-centralized clusters. We propose to divide controllers into groups based on distance between them. Each such group runs a separate instance of Izzy. This paper presents the distributed algorithm Seedling that accomplishes the former. We describe how Seedling works in static scenarios followed by an outline of necessary steps to extend it to dynamic settings including changes to both the number and location of controllers as well as to network topology, especially link failures.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125388609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its finite-length block performance is not ideal and sometimes is even worse than Chase combining. We had a key observation that there should be a final combining stage for all transmissions, with which the polar IR-HARQ performance could be significantly improved in the finite block-length regime. In this paper, we discuss models based on this observation and show the conditions for them to achieve the capacity of the underlying channels.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116185178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One user transmits high-priority (low-latency and high-reliability) but sporadic traffic, such as some types of Tactile Internet traffic. The other user transmits low-priority traffic with less stringent requirements on latency and reliability and the traffic arrival process is not sporadic. To meet the QoS requirements of the high-priority traffic while being efficient in utilizing resources, we use subcarrier index modulation (SIM) for the low-priority traffic and diversity for the high-priority traffic. To reduce the complexity, such multiple access is applied within small groups of resources separately. We develop low-complexity maximum likelihood detection algorithms. Analysis and simulation results show that the performance of the low-priority traffic is almost not affected by the presence of high-priority traffic while the desired performance of the latter is achieved.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116685808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electric vehicles (EVs) are important distributed energy resources for generating revenue, reducing emissions, mitigating the severity of an outage and restoring the distribution system rapidly to achieve resilient microgrids. However, they are currently under-utilized. For better utilization, this paper proposes EVaaS in microgrids to restore critical load (CL). First, EVaaS framework and challenges associated with deployment, as well as high speed and low latency EVaaS communications are introduced and discussed. Then, the association problem of EVs and CL is formulated and a heuristic method is then proposed, which aims to minimize the operating cost and number of associated EVs by solving a mixed linear integer problem. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate and verify the proposed model. Illustrative cases demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed deployment strategy and algorithm.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125640447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, access control in Health Informatics needs be highly efficient and scalable, while remaining flexible enough to adequately address the heterogeneous security requirements. Among the most promising work on access control is CBAC. However, all prior work employed asymmetric cryptography to sign capability tokens, which prevents its use on the most constrained devices. Previously we proposed the Lightweight Capability Based Access Control (LCap) [1] that overcomes this restriction by using symmetric cryptography. In this paper, we discuss the limitations of LCap and propose modifications to overcome them. Our evaluation of the enhanced LCap shows, that its impact on response time is insignificant and its computational overhead is moderate. This allows the deployment of LCap even for the most constrained devices in Health Informatics.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"28 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125693637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Offloading in HetNets alleviates congestion on the overloaded cellular network where the femto base stations (FBS) acts as offloading spots. The offloaded user (OU) is paired with the user available at the FBS (called as pairing user (PU)) and served using non-orthogonal multiple access. Two parameters namely, power allocation factor (PAF), i.e., the power to be allocated to the OU, and channel ratio (CHR), i.e., the ratio of channel gain between the OU and the PU play a crucial role in determining the ergodic rate achieved by the OU. If the PAF and the CHR are not optimally selected, it results in degradation in overall rate performance. This work jointly optimizes the PAF and the CHR to maximize the ergodic rate performance of the OU. The impact of optimized and non-optimized parameters on the performance of OU is studied to prove the advantage of using optimized scenario for the OU. An increase of upto 3 times is observed in the ergodic rate and sum ergodic rate by using the optimized parameters.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122652665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To evaluate and compare the performance of these technologies under different channel conditions and reliability requirements, system level evaluations are required. For this purpose, we first present physical layer abstraction (PLA) techniques for IEEE 802.11p and LTE-V2V and then compare their performance using system level simulations. Using the proposed PLA methods, we compare the considered technologies in terms of throughput, latency and reliability. The results show that expected throughput, latency and packet error rate achieved by the proposed PLA methods are close to the bound obtained through full PHY simulations.","PeriodicalId":348924,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131180914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
